u/TrulyOutrageous42 16d ago edited 16d ago
It's funny/infuriating that the right thinks that you must have complete total 100% control in order to be a dictator, rather than it being a character flaw. They're thinking of a dictatorship. We're describing a dictator in a system barely holding him back from turning it into one. They also don't seem to grasp the concept of "if you let this happen, you can't undo it, which is why we always work to stay several steps away from it".
There's no world in which he hasn't been a dictator his entire life. He's just trying to do that in government, where it explicitly doesn't belong. That he ignores the very document that grants authority means he has none beyond might-makes-right and whatever violence his supporters will engage in, which Republican politicians have repeatedly said worries them and guides their Benedictian choices. (edit: fixed some aphasia issues)

Had a red hat "threaten" me with the "fact" that Clinton is in the Epstein files. If we arrest and throw Trump into prison we'd have to arrest and throw Clinton into prison too!
Without missing a beat I told him that was fine. And it could actually help the government cut back on unnecessary spending. Make Trump and Clinton cell mates and we could have one secret service team watch the two of them instead of two different full teams!
7

Put every powerful and/or rich person back to reagan under a fuckin microscope.
I only stop at reagan because any further and even our military budget wouldn't be enough to fund all the investigators.
Any confirmed to have connections to the major and sickening crimes that are at the same level as epstein, trump, etc are put in an actual, non-resort-style prison, and 100% of their assets are seized and disbursed to the victims or their descendents.
I'm thinking that the population of billionaires would drop to about 2% of what we currently have.
I know that this is just a vivid fantasy, but if I don't have my hopeful fantasy, it's harder to believe the more banal hopes of basic justice.

- Not only this, but all the January 6th Capital rioters would not have been pardoned and their leaders sentences commuted and nor would many supporters of the currently sitting President or rather Dictator-In-Chief.
- Not only this, but our Constitution would not constantly be violated and our laws broken by the currently sitting President or rather Dictator-In-Chief.
- Not just this, but our country's healthcare and security would not now be compromised.
- Not only this, but the 47yo war with Iran would probably not have continued sparking higher gas and diesel prices.
- Not only this, but cost of living would be easier not harder.
- Not only this, but warnings from AI tech CEO's would not go ignored sparking AI regulation at the Federal level.
- Not only this, but we wouldn't have a President or rather a Dictator who likes to threaten other countries and foreign business's with tariffs if they don't fall in line to his demands
- Not only this, but the United States would still be in the Paris Climate Accords and all climate regulations the EPA established for several decades would not be rescinded.
- Not only this, but the USAID (the U.S. Agency of International Development) would still exist.
- Not only this, but the East Wing would not be completely demolished to make way for a new "grand ballroom" nor would funding approved by Congress for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing arts be diverted to other "pet projects" and receive constant threats of being demolished due to disrepair all because the current President's name can't be on the building without Congressional approval.
- Not just this, but many migrants who legally came to the United States and even those migrants seeking U.S. citizenship or seeking medical help would not now be held in Concentration camps awaiting deportation to non-native countries and several other migrants now killed.
- Not only this, but we wouldn't have a no-good HUGEly egotistical President who's constantly posting AI-generated pictures and videos on his beloved Truth Social as a way of attacking his political enemies and everyone else who gets in his way.
- Not only this, but we wouldn't have a Dictator for a no-good President who's constantly threatening our democracy.
- Not only this, but we wouldn't now have a pathological liar for a no-good dimwit of a President or rather Dictator-In-Chief nor an unqualified Presidential Administration full of dimwits and idiots.
All these are just the few major highlights I can think of from the top of my head of how Trump has been actively destroying our country.

It's kind of hard to argue against this. In a normal world, this would be overstepping a bit. But with the way the GOP went all-in with Trump, bending at every whim just to ruin the country, it has killed their party. We don't live in a normal world anymore, they made sure to see to that.
The worst part is that it seemed like an obvious outcome for quite a lot of people. But once they turned this strictly into a matter of tribalism, they did their best to attack and silence anyone outside their group. Especially intellectuals.
You can't just hit a reset button, or pray to your God to take it away and fix it. Reality is insurmountable, no matter how deep your delusions run.

Truth is people didn't vote Trump because he's so good, people voted him because the democrats were so bad.
You have to pander to the average voter. Being overly judgemental towards people who aren't vegan, drive electric cars, are members or allies of LGBTQ+, etc. doesn't work out (this is how the average voter sees the democratic party btw). Focusing too much on "there's more than 2 genders", etc. rather than what the majority of people actually care about lands you with an idiot/pedo as president.
Trump promised these people what they wanted: prices lowered for gas and groceries, the epstein files to be released, and "no more wars". (obviously that didn't work). That is something, in my opinion, every voter in the US wanted. Most voters probably thought they were voting for common sense.
It is documented in history that the left succeeds best when it panders its social and economic policies to the average person. 4% of Americans are vegan. 12% are part of the LGBTQ+ community.
I'm a democrat, a disgruntled one for sure. It is an objective truth that the democratic party is better for the US than the republican party, but we are not going to win any elections any time soon if we don't start pandering more to the average person. That doesn't mean we should lessen the importance of these minority groups in our policies, but maybe we shouldn't focus the entire campaign on >16% of the population...

"Might Makes Right"
People, there are literally stacks of ancient sources for 1,000's of years that have a lot to say about this issue, which we know as the Thucydides Trap, or how the hubris of Athens brought about the collapse of the Greek Golden Age. ...You see, this was this one guy called Plato. Pretty smart guy, some people say.
You can take Thucydides, or Plato, or Sun Tzu, or Machiavelli, or modern Military strategy from West Point, but all agree that this is wrong. All wrong. Totally wrong. 100% the wrong thinking.
And if it's your thing, we also have it from the Bible: "Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." (Proverbs 16:18)
