All The Tea ☕️ Watch this brutal takedown of Pete Hegseth’s Christian Nationalist pastor who spoke at the Pentagon

Doug Wilson isn’t just some random pastor. He’s a self-described Christian nationalist and “paleo-Confederate” who has argued against women’s suffrage, preached that wives should submit to their husbands, defended Christian slaveholders, and openly advocated turning America into a Christian nation. Yet Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth invited Wilson to preach inside the Pentagon in February, where Wilson spoke about praying for a national Christian “revival.” Hegseth belongs to the denomination Wilson co-founded and has publicly amplified his message. Source 1

It’s unprecedented that someone with these views was welcomed into the headquarters of the United States military by the Secretary of Defense. Source 2

How is making healthcare unnecessarily unaffordable or making food artificially scarce in anyway even 1% Christ-like?

95

u/mujarheadeen Aug 17 '26

"We know Jesus wasn't a socialist cause he was actually able to feed people" Has got to be the lamest thing I've ever heard any pastor say, not that I listen to many...

20

u/SkylineWaffles Aug 17 '26

What was Jesus's food production P/L? I dont recall that part of the wine or fish stories

17

u/NoblePickle84 Aug 17 '26

Supply Side Jesus didn't contribute to the church roof fund or their desired politicians, right?

6

u/Large-Produce5682 Chai Tea Is Tea Tea Aug 18 '26

"Supply Side Jesus."

Thank you, Friend. For I shall carry this with me to my last day.

3

u/123diamondude321 Aug 19 '26

Supply Side Jesus is a whole comic strip man, not just a phrase.

2

Thanks, Friend. That was rough--and sadly... too true.

Supply side Jesus 😂

13

u/mujarheadeen Aug 17 '26

His prophet was through the roof obviously

8

u/Alone-Promise-8904 Aug 17 '26

Exactly. As if capitalists taking away nutrition programs feeds people better than socialism would.

5

u/tackleho Aug 17 '26

That's because he is not a pastor as much as a politician

6

u/CautionarySnail Aug 17 '26

Somehow I missed the part where Jesus then tried to charge people for the bread.

Taking something and managing it effectively to get it to a population in need and get people fed without charging them cash — sounds pretty socialist.

3

u/Preeng Aug 17 '26

Because it's a ZINGER!

Why have policies backed by data when you can just throw out unfounded insults?

"I think we should spend our own tax money on helping our own people before we spend it on war."

"lol you sound like a vegan"

ZING! Your argument is now null.

3

u/CraftsBoy2Craftsman Aug 17 '26

but you know that line worked so well for the echo chamber

1

u/Southern-Cattle4038 Aug 18 '26

The dead air after that line was better than any comeback

3

u/overitallofittoo Aug 18 '26

We know he wasn't a capitalist because he didn't charge them for food.

3

u/jaykotecki Aug 18 '26

*and the food contained no parasites, corn syrup, feces or glyphosate.

2

u/scratchy_mcballsy Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 18 '26

I don’t even understand this statement. Not the part of how socialism wasn’t a thing during Jesus’ time, but how would being a socialist actually prevent him from feeding people?

Edit: I figured he was speaking incorrectly. Probably due to the fact that he doesn’t have to debate or explain things to his congregation. He’s probably confusing socialism with communism. I feel like the real Jesus would have skewed towards being a socialist.

2

u/mujarheadeen Aug 18 '26

It was an attempted zinger about famines under Stalin & Mao. The fact that he just stopped talking after this piss poor one liner is all he had to say about all the accusations leveled against him, speaks volumes. Jesus didn't charge for his magic food so he was definitely no capitalist.

1

u/InformationSalt3826 Aug 18 '26

You could feed people the crickets that were the response…

u/Ok_Star_4136 Royal Watcher Aug 19 '26

That's literally just the guy going "DEEZ NUTS! GOTTEM!" It doesn't address the argument, and makes some lame-ass joke instead. That's a winning argument only to losers.

Great comment just the name threw me off. Thank you.

lol. Explain to me how most of Northern Africa, all of Europe and the Middle East were Christian dominions from the 1st century through the 7th century. Then came Islam and now many of those regions are predominantly Muslim now.

Religion of peace? Hahaha

1

u/darquedragon13 Aug 20 '26

Fun fact: Yahweh was a god of war in the original Abrahamic pantheon and he's now worshipped as the one true god. It's been argued that when referring to God, the father, that Jesus was referring to the original pantheon head god and that the reason for the big differences in the god of the old and new testament is because they're not actually referring to the same god. I'm by no means "knowledgeable" on the subject, but I do like reading into historical religions

1

u/Senior-Height3246 Aug 20 '26

Although I’m not familiar with this myth, I find it hard to believe. Hebrews thought the name YHWH was even too holy to say out loud. Which is why they would say Adoni or Elohim. Yahweh is the triune God, in the three persons of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

1

u/darquedragon13 Aug 21 '26

Look up the Canaanite pantheon. He was introduced into it as a warrior and storm deity(sound familiar?) Old Testament refers to Him as El, the name of the high god of the Canaanite pantheon. Over time, however, eventually only YHWH remained (with YHWH and El being used interchangeably at one point), going from polytheistic to monotheistic. Introduced does suggest that a smaller tribe that worshipped Him exclusively or as their head god was absorbed into the population. However, it doesn't change the fact that He was allowed in as a minor god, similar to Baal but with a lower standing. This also explains the rivalry between them in the Bible, as their similarities probably had them competing for the same spot culturally. Idk, I just find it all interesting, personally. I'm agnostic and find all the similarities in the old religions cool

1

u/Senior-Height3246 Aug 21 '26

Yes I’m sure it’s all interesting. The archeological and manuscript evidence of the Old Testament is profoundly and overwhelmingly convincing. The veracity of the Bible has the most historical evidence than any other ancient text of all antiquity.

I know you said you’re agnostic, but I would challenge you to read up on history of the Christian Bible in the same way you’ve read up on the Canaanite pantheon. I believe it will help in your search for meaningful truth!

Good luck my friend! Thanks for your perspective.

1

u/darquedragon13 Aug 21 '26

Yes, newer tends to be better documented and the fact it's still alive today means it has been studied all this time unlike a dead religion. That doesn't change apparent origins or connections. And while I'm agnostic, Jesus's teachings are my foundation. I have read through some, though not for a decade or so. Reading through its history and seeing the similarities and incorporations is what got me interested in the first place. And thank you for not basically calling me a heretic for my interests. It's actually refreshing.

1

u/Senior-Height3246 Aug 21 '26

Oh for sure. It is fascinating to see the similarities and connections between different cultures and religious beliefs. In my opinion it shows that every culture knew a “god” existed.

I would encourage you to dive back into some of those teachings of Jesus you’ve visited in the past. Some of his teachings make him stand out in his claims from every other “god”. Everyone knows John 3:16. But read what Jesus says in John 3:17-18. He’s either a liar, a lunatic, or God! Can’t just make him a moral teacher.

Anyways, good luck on your spiritual journey. I’m not on here to criticize people but to learn people’s perspective. But I can’t deny the things Jesus has done in my life so I try to point people to Him.

Good luck my friend!

“That’s all you’ve got?” 🤌

Man talk about supporting communism by getting owned by the community

9

u/CautionarySnail Aug 17 '26

That level of mockery was all that was needed.

That man isn’t a pastor. He’s a recruiter for a white supremacist and misogynistic branch of wealth gospel assholes. Such magical and racist thinking should have been left aside long before America was discovered, but there he is, trying to haul us back to the Middle Ages.

You’re right. I can’t say he isn’t a true Christian.

He’s a piss poor Christian. But worse - he’s a piss poor American because he is against the very American constitution.

He believes our Constitution can only be upheld by and apply to Christians. That shows a huge disconnect with our history and the law in the Constitution itself.

He advocates for slavery. Who would a follower of Christ enslave?

Doug Wilson believes that homosexuals should be imprisoned. Where in the New Testament does Christ indicate support for harm against gay people?

He’s indicated strong support for going to war with Muslim nations simply on the basis that they’re Muslims. That’s a good Christian value, as long as you haven’t bothered to read the actual words of the actual Prince of Peace. I love the idea of a pointless nonstop religious war for our country, who wouldn’t?

So, you’re right. I failed to correctly identify the kind of talking human boil he is.

You’re right - it was intellectually lazy of me to use that fallacy in my writing.

1

u/Moiraine-FanBlue Aug 18 '26

I'll admit I don't think, in my personal opinion, that, the "No True Scotsman" fallacy applies to religion.

Every religion on Earth, or at very least quite a few of them, points out that a lot of people will "claim" to be members of that religion, but that very few will actually in the end be true followers of it.

America has a lot of people who claim to be Christians.

It has very few people who are willing to live the life that actually being a Christian requires of them.

Exactly. He is used to an unchallenged monologue with bigots.

Also, “he fed people”. Yeah by doing magic, aka multiplying bread. Trump capable of magic yet?

1

u/BuckManscape Aug 17 '26

Can’t be making daddy mad, after all…

1

u/KejsarePDX Aug 17 '26

Also, when Jesus fed the people with the loaves and fishes many misunderstood him and thought he would feed their armies to fight the Romans. They keep wanting a political messiah even today.

14

u/Im-BackAgain-Babes2 Aug 17 '26

Ex baptist here, I'll take a wap at it ..

The 'pastor' is saying Jesus could actually feed people the way he implied, most likely because of the story where Jesus feeds the 5000 by a miracle from prayer. Jesus blessed a young boy's lunch and it fed many...

This loser 'pastor' is using that story and miracle as proof Jesus 'feeds' people himself by his own means. but his word betray him.. Jesus fed 5000 people for 'free' because it was good and right to feed people... Let's not forget, to this 'pastor' (and pastor alike) that giving away free anything is socialism...

his own words betray him.. Jesus was infact a socialist in many ways.. yes, he was and that's was a good thing.. Jesus was a real human after all (I'm not claiming anything other than that) and he was a good man who yes, fed people for free and hoped for good things for the people. Jesus lived his life as as an example and verb.. he was love to people.

This 'pastor' wouldn't recognize Jesus even if he was standing in front of him.

5

u/NoblePickle84 Aug 17 '26

Curious to know what kind of food pantry, if any, his congregation runs. Curioser to know what they do with any donations or funds they're receiving to redistribute "as Jesus would intend".

2

u/buddhainmyyard Aug 17 '26

A private one, in a wealthy neighborhood that pay it's it's employees very well for little to no work.

2

u/scratchy_mcballsy Aug 18 '26

Thanks for this. I figured he was giving an improper portrayal of Jesus vs the actual bible and also misusing the meaning of socialism.

8

u/NoblePickle84 Aug 17 '26

You see? He's confusing socialism and communism again, like they're wont to do. These clowns can't read or comprehend anything, not even their own religious texts. They've been "handed down" the hateful rhetoric of their forebears in the church from the days of racism and hatred of others without ever really STUDYING the teachings of their gods. They're religious zealots, the Christian version of radical Islamists.

Also, Jesus was arguably *** THE O.G. SOCIALIST *** if you're anything other than a charlatan religious figure.

1

u/Specialist_Guitar232 Aug 17 '26

Communism cannot succeed in the US until we really become much more like Christians. Real Christians like how Jesus lived, not like Christian tv. Ironic

3

u/esem86 Aug 17 '26

When their brain factory resets like it did here, they typically default back to buzzwords that constantly get recycled within their base. "Socialism, LGBTQ, immigrants, Muslims, gay marriage, abortion" etc etc.

If you removed culture wars and logical fallacies from the equation, all they'd be left with is the sound of dial-up modems coming from their ears.

well you see these people are what the world knows as evangelicals, a sect of protestantism that loves to larp, but in their services they claim to actually exorcise people (literal paid actors), preach that being rich is a sign that jesus loves you because he gave you money (this is very extremely heretical by the way), barely read the bible, they only ever read the bits that support the conservative agenda. here in brazil we like to joke that the evangelical politicians want to turn the country into evangelistan, the joke being that it would a christian version of the extremely conservative laws seen in places like afghanistan

if you wish to make them think, you can propose "what if the government suddenly had bhuddist politicians passing laws that banned barbecues" and suddenly they will respect the separation of church and government

So to Dugg, the parable of the loaves & fishes is ANTI socialism?!? From my memory of the tale, Jesus doesn't magically produce food to feed 5000. Trying to remember what economic philosophy is based on that 🤔 I think Dugg needs to have a woman direct him because his thinking ain't thunking.

It would be funny, if the guy didn’t have a hand in delivering lots of suffering to millions of people

Tim Miller during that, just sitting back and enjoying the show. Nice

Why would he I think that we should refrain from attacking "religious idiots."
Why would they get a pass? Is it Because he can't defend his position?

Who is the guy “attacking” him? I don’t recognize him… didn’t see his name…

u/Original_Jelly_9591 Aug 21 '26

He's not a pastor or a Christian by the way.

u/whatisdreampunk Aug 22 '26

Who supposes that we refrain from attacking religious leaders? I don't suppose that.

What a joke of a response. These people's arguments are garbage.

Grown men arguing about a fairy tale

This may not be a popular take, but I don't think saying Doug needs to read the Bible is a very effective zinger, because I think Doug actually HAS read the Bible. Probably more than most Christians. The real difference between Wilson and most Christians is that, when confronted with the stuff the Bible actually says, most Christians will start hemming and hawing about "that's the old testament" or "those laws only applied to the Israelites" and trying to distance themselve from it; whereas when people like Doug read that stuff, he's like "HELL YEAH LOVE IT".

Thing is, the Bible is actually every bit as shitty as Wilson's beliefs. In fact, the shitty stuff he says is directly extrapolated from the literal wording. It says men have dominion over women just like humans have dominion over animals. It condones chattel slavery (and also has instructions on how to trick your fellow Israelites (who can otherwise only be indentured servants) into being your slaves for life) and tells slaves to obey their masters. It says that women who don't bleed the first time they have sex should be put to death (even though over 60% of women don't bleed their first time). It says that a rape victim who doesn't scream loud enough to alert people is to be put to death, and if you ARE found to have been raped, you are forced to marry your rapist and can never be divorced from him. It condones child sacrifice (the story of Jephthah). It commands the Israelites to commit genocide except for young virgin female children who they are to take as sex slaves (and if they aren't over the deaths of their entire family, people and culture in a few weeks, you can kick them out of your home and they'll basically be left to die since no one will care for or marry them due to no longer being virgins -- REMINDER THIS IS CHILDREN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT). It says you can beat your slaves as much and as hard as you want so long as they don't die from the beating in a day or two. God punishes David by having David's *wives* brutally SA'd. God makes a bear tear apart a group of small children because they made fun of a guy being bald. God made a wager with Satan (even though god is omniscient and already would know the outcome) that Job would worship him even if he took all Job had including murdered his family... and when Job was like "why did you do this, you already knew I'd be obedient", God tells him to shut up or he'll kill him. And of course, we are all fundamentally broken and evil and depraved because the first two humans broke a rule, which they didn't know was bad because they had no concept OF "bad" until after they'd already broken it.

Most of that was all in the OT, but A) Jesus literally says he has come to fulfill the law *NOT* abolish it (if I fulfill the law requiring me to wear a seatbelt when I drive, does that law go away because I did it? lol obviously not), that everyone is to follow the law (and that anyone who doesn't or causes others to not will be called least in the kingdom of heaven) and that the shitty OT laws and commandments detailed above remain in effect until the heavens and Earth pass away (an event that happens at the end of time, as denoted in Revelations where it literally says when the heavens and Earth will pass away) and B) the NT is actually worse: unlike the OT which doesn't talk super much about an afterlife, the NT prescribes eternal, unending, unyielding torment for not just finite crimes, but finite *thoughtcrimes* -- literally "not believing a thing" is sufficient to burn forever in magic fire.

There's some good stuff in it, sure, but the good stuff that's in it (helping the poor, caring for the sick, treating others as you wish to be treated) is not dependent Bible and can be arrived at without the Bible (or any religion for that matter).

Useless drivel.

I literally went to Seminary and was pursuing a Masters in Theology before I deconstructed but ok buddy whatever you say

If you're mad at seeing that much text, maybe be mad at the Bible for containing that much awful shit to begin with. And I was just playing the greatest hits.

It will never stop being funny that "dude who is triggered by seeing too many typed words on a forum where communication happens via typed words" is an actual personality type on Reddit.

Still useless drivel. Your comment and the content. I think you miss my meaning.

Don't get me wrong: I'm glad most Christians don't read their Bible and try to downplay and distance themselves from what it actually says, because an entire nation full of Doug Wilsons would be abhorent beyond words.
