Modern Family star changes her name for career pivot: 'I wanted to switch it up'
https://ew.com/modern-family-star-aubrey-anderson-emmons-changes-name-11787802?
Allow Frances Anderson to reintroduce herself.
The actress formerly known as Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, who broke out for her role as adoptee Lily on the Emmy-winning sitcom Modern Family, has changed her name to Frances Anderson. Anderson has adopted the new moniker to coincide with her pivot to a career in music. Her debut indie pop EP, "Drown," is out now.
"Frances is actually part of my legal name," Anderson, 18, explained to E! News on Friday. "It’s my middle name, and it’s after my mom’s old family friend. I thought it was a bit shorter than Aubrey Anderson-Emmons. I do have a long, hyphenated last name.”
Anderson added, "I wanted to switch it up and people to see a new side of me. And I wanted to create a space specifically just for music."
She released the first single from the EP, "Telephones and Traffic," in May.
Anderson made her television debut at the age of 4 in season 3 of Modern Family, playing the precocious adopted daughter of Jesse Tyler Ferguson's Mitchell Pritchett and Eric Stonestreet's Cam Tucker. She has won three ensemble Screen Actors Guild Awards alongside the sitcom's cast. Anderson told E! that she "had to take a step back from acting" once the show ended to discover her passion for music. "The show ended when I was 12 years old, so after that I decided I’m not gonna act anymore," she said. Rest assured, though, that Anderson does "plan on acting again — 100 percent.”
She has maintained a close relationship with her former onscreen fathers and other costars from the sprawling cast. Ferguson and Julie Bowen, who played Anderson's onscreen aunt Claire, staged a mini-reunion when they attended Anderson's school play last year.
Anderson last made headlines when she came out as bisexual last month, using memorable throwback audio from Modern Family to help mark the announcement. "You are Vietnamese," Sofia Vergara's Gloria informs Lily, who says in response, "No, I'm not. I'm gay!"
"I literally am," Anderson captioned the post.

Discussion Hot take, The hate that Claire gets is pure Misogyny.
Okay hear me out,
Imagine Claire and Phil, Claire is shown to be massively controlling, irritating, insensitive and quirky. Meanwhile Phill is shown to be fun-loving, carefree and happy.
now flip the positions. Imagine Phil (Named Phyllis) was a woman, and Claire (Named Clark) was a man.
Most people Immediately label Phyllis as the neglectful mom who doesn't take care of anything, while Clark tolls around carrying the whole house on his back, oh poor Clark, he deserves better.
One argument I often see is people calling Claire a 'stick in the mud', or 'neurotic' or a 'total spoilsport' and sure, it looks that way, but you have to be controlling when you're the only one actually doing anything.
Claire had so much work to do. all the time. and Phill did absolutely nothing to help, he was the fun dad, sure, but he only got to be the fun dad because Claire was the uncool mom. what would the house look like if there were two Phills in the house ?? all the money would be spent on ridiculous stuff and toys. everything would be a complete mess because and no one would ever clean anything. there would be absolutely no one to take care of the kids, because who did all the important stuff for the kids? football matches, recitals, groceries, medicines, doctor's appointments, vaccinations, exams, driving them to school everyday, food, vacation planning. All Claire, without her the whole thing would fall apart.
we even saw a glipse of this, in that one episode (S2E22) that the second Claire let the reigns down for the day, Phill couldn't afford to be the 'fun dad' anymore. he had to be an actual parent, and scold Haley and Alex to make them actually do the work. I hate it when people say shit about Claire, because she never wanted to be that way, do you think she likes being that way? Hell. No. but she has to be that way! because no one else will do it. Haley, Alex, Luke and Phil have parties, but only because Claire is there to clean them up afterwards.
Stop hating on Claire, because she definately wasn't 'neurotic'. she just needed someone who would help her carry the load. and yes, Phil makes her laugh, which is good. but at the end of the day, she's alone in being the only responsible one. I'm not going to count Alex, because while Alex is responsible for herself, which is great, she is also a child. and she shouldn't have to be a parent because Phil can't be one.
And I'm not saying that Phil is a bad parent, he's a great dad. a really good dad. He just isn't that great of a husband.

Leap Day faces
Modern Family S03E17 Leap Day. The way the camera perfectly captured the ladies in their disdained face at the way Phil handled their synced up cycles is so perfect. And they are lined up so perfectly. You could draw a straight diagonal line on their heads.

Discussion did manny creepiness start in s5?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
watching S5 & tbh the creepiness from manny started sooner than I thought, but i also think it’s due to the writers trying to keep the way he interacted with women as a kid (even the ones in his family) the same as he got older which made it come off even creepier. In a “it was cute when you were a kid but not now that you’re older” kind of way, while still trying to keep his “good kid” image because he was still trying to protect Luke’s feelings over the party. I think this ep. clearly shows how they struggled to write for Manny.

Funny Moment
S10E21: Communications
When the family discovers Gloria has been bribing people with watches to get them things they want.
Manny asks why she has so many watches. She admits to getting them while she was "Ambien shopping".
"Didn't you all wonder when you got the same fun socks for Christmas?"
Some people dislike the later seasons but for me the writing was always consistently hilarious in every season.

My headcanon as to how Phil and claire met
Okay so we know that there are a lot of inconsistencies in the story of how Phil and claire met and it's been bothering me for a while so this is what I came up with:
Throughout the series, we see Phil tell the children different versions of how he met claire. At a concert, at a laundromat, at college, when claire accidently ran him over, when he wore his dreamcatcher earrings to an arcade etc. What if each version is true?
Take for example hayley and dylan. Throughout the series, they date, break up, run into each other in the wierdest places (for eg disneyland or at the mall) and start dating again. Maybe Phil and clair had a similar relationship. So we don't know the first time they met, but over the years they were dating on and off and just running into each other until at some point, Phil got claire pregnant.
Ik it's probably just lazy writing but I just think it's a fun theory

Discussion [F4A] Playing Claire Dunphy | Modern Family AU | Slow-Burn Forbidden Romance, Temptation & Drama
Hey everyone!
I’m looking for a creative, detailed RP partner for a long-term, story-driven roleplay inspired by A Wife and Mother (Adult game), but set in the world of Modern Family.
I’ll be playing Claire Dunphy, around Season 3. She’s in her early 40s, happily married to Phil, and a devoted mother to Haley, Alex, and Luke. She’s responsible, family-oriented, a little controlling, and genuinely loves her husband and children.
But what happens when she slowly starts discovering a side of herself she hasn’t explored in years?
The premise:
Claire’s ordinary suburban life gradually becomes complicated as she encounters younger, charming men who make her feel attractive, adventurous, and appreciated beyond her identity as Phil’s wife and the kids’ mother.
I want this to be a genuine slow burn, not something where Claire suddenly changes overnight. It should begin with innocent conversations, playful flirting, accidental closeness, questionable decisions, and gradually escalating emotional and romantic tension.
I’d love to incorporate actual Modern Family characters, family dynamics, hilarious misunderstandings, unexpected interruptions, and situations inspired by the show.
What I’m looking for:
• I’ll play Claire, while you play the other characters and help drive the story.
• A choice-driven, interactive storytelling style with meaningful consequences.
• Younger adult male characters, preferably in their mid-to-late 20s.
• Slow character development, believable temptation, secrecy, jealousy, guilt, and complicated relationships.
• Plenty of humor, family drama, romantic tension, and unexpected twists.
• A partner who enjoys detailed scenes, natural dialogue, and building a larger interconnected story rather than rushing everything.
The biggest appeal for me is the contrast between Claire’s respectable family life and the increasingly unpredictable situations she finds herself in.
I’d love someone familiar with Modern Family, although it’s not mandatory.
If you’re interested, send me a DM with your age (18+), writing style, and any ideas you’d like to explore!

Discussion Idea for a a Modern Family Prequel
This is an idea I had floating around in the back of my head for a while: A modern family prequel miniseries with 22-minute long episodes that span from the marriage of Jay and Dede in 1968 to the first moment in the first episode of the series where Claire yells “kids, breakfast!” Here’s how it would play out.
Ep 1 (1968): The marriage of Jay and Dede. Jay is having jitters about his marriage and he’s feeling nervous, but a younger Donny and Shorty reassures him to go through with it.
Ep 2 (1970-1975): The birth of Claire and Mitchell + their early childhoods. It shows the chaos of the Pritchett family’s lives and how they managed to stay alive. Pritchett’s closets also begins to boom.
Ep 3 (1983-1988): Mitchell and Claire’s teenhoods. we finally get to see the crazy Claire we hear about in memories from Claire and Phil.
Ep 4 (1992-1994): Claire meets Phil, and at the end of the episode, they discover they’re pregnant with Haley.
Ep 5 (Phil): After each episode where one of the Pritchetts meets their future spouse of the 2010s, an episode focused on the spouse’s life before meeting the Pritchetts occurs, showing their childhood and then teenhood. The first one is Phil.
Ep 6 (1996-1999): Alex and Luke are both born during this time span, and we are shown a glimpse into the Dunphy’s chaotic lives. As a B-Plot, Mitchell tries to figure out how to tell Jay he’s gay.
Ep 7 (2000-2001): Mitchell, on new years Y2K, meets Cam at a bar. At the end of this episode, the growing family comes together as 9/11 occurs in the backdrop of this changing American society.
Ep 8 (Cam): An episode focused on Cam’s life as a farm boy in the 1970s to his clowning school days up until he meets mitchell in the bar occurs. Three sections between the ads.
Ep 9 (2003-2006): Jay and Dede’s marriage has shown to be crumbling throughout the entire series up to this point. They finalize their divorce, Claire and Mitchell must pick sides. (This episode is a two parter)
Ep 10 (2007-2008): After a cliffhanger from the last episode, We continue to see the families develop. Dede keeps influencing Cam and Mitchell behind the scenes to adopt a baby. Jay begins to build his new house. Phil, as a subplot, gets an iPhone. Jay meets Gloria at a diner, it is recorded in the exact way it was described with Gloria and her sister involved. At the end of the episode, they’re married.
Ep 11 (Gloria): This episode, divided into three parts between ads, shows Gloria’s childhood/teenhood in 1970s/80s Colombia, her marriage to Javier and conception of Manny, and her life in poverty until meeting Jay at the end.
Ep 12 (2009): Mitchell and Cameron set off to Vietnam to finalize adopting a baby. They keep it a secret from the families, who believe they’re only going off on vacation. The episode (and series) ends with Mitchell and Cameron on the flight with Lily, and Claire ends the episode with an exterior shot of the house saying “Kids, breakfast!”
This whole show would be filmed in the exact same mockumentary style as modern family, in HD as well, even in scenes taking place all the way back in the 60s. This would be a very great opportunity to use many actors, especially unknown ones, to get them famous.

Finishing modern family
Been binge-watching this series for about 2–3 months now, and I'm already halfway through Season 11!! It's been a roller-coaster ride and honestly, one of the best sitcoms ever and has become my favorite.
I kinda don't want to finish it because I have a hard time letting things go, lol. Plus, there aren't really any other sitcoms, at least that I know of, that have the same warmth and vibe as this series. I'm not even the type of person who rewatches films or series because, idk, it just makes me even sadder, lol

did the writers hate the fact that gloria was so loved
what exactly came on the writers writing the last season like
why would they portray her like that
the whole show she was so loving “family means everything” just so amazing
and in the last season especially the last christmas episode
i mean ofcourse she was very protective of her son
but - kicking luke out of his own uncle’s house
- slut shaming claire
- hailey’s accidental pregnancy rant
- betraying phil and then threatening alex
i mean im sorry but it just felt so out of character
her and cam were genuinely my favourite duo and then she has to go ahead and say it wasn’t anything “we were alone like 8 times”
i mean-?
