I feel like people aren't going to be ready for Gen X senior citizens.

We're gonna be so fucking cool and it's just gonna blow all of your minds.

oh my sweet summer child... thats what every generation thinks... the free love acid and heroin hippies from the 60s became boomers...

I'm 61. I mentioned to the youngsters that I work with that I'm going to go fly a glider next summer. The room got really quiet. Christ....wait until they figure out all the crazy shit I've already done.

No, my boomer age parents are total hippies. They exist, even if Austin and SF are now 9:1 Chads

You just missed the good ones. There are/were some legit boomer badasses out there. As a gen xer, those old hippies and disco bunnies were the ones that were worth listening to. The one who got it. The ones that passed the torch of 'live and let live' to us.

That lady on drums gives no fuck what race the dudes banging the drums are. She got that rhythm from somewhere. She could probably tell you some stories from "back in the 70s" that would make pornhub blush. Listen to what those type boomers have to say. You might be amazed at how cool they are.

The thing is though that, like every generation, the cool ones tend to be the minority. I knew some boomer bad asses who were hippies back in the day. I even knew some people who made it to Woodstock. They were the vast minority of that generation though. Looking back it's all we see because they were the interesting ones, but most boomers were just boring normal people who turned into boring old people who focused mostly on themselves and their own. And that's now the generation that's running shit. The hippies are still cool, you just can't find many of them because there weren't many to begin with.

It's nuance brother, of course not everyone is bad. Just an example of "we are going to be a fresh new generation that will change everything" that every single generation thinks

"Nuance" and "sweet summer child" back to back, you are on fire now!!

Whatever

Every generation says this. The Simpsons has a quote that sums it up.

Idk about that. But this is wholesome😊

This comment is exactly why gen x senior citizens will not be cool.

I’m gonna be that old guy that still wears denim jeans and chucks.

Personally speaking from my experience working with the generational public, I’ve found that Gen X comes across as more entitled and impatient than other generations

You seem to think people don't change during life. Seniors have, and Gen X will.

In an apocalyptic future, everyone’s cool.

Yeah... No.

I can't say why without violating this sub's rules about politics, though.

Let's just say that Gen X became their parents.

No you’re not.

Nope. That myth was based on one guy's article based on two polls that had age groups that did not correspond to generational divides and margins of error over 8% for "GenX" but about half as large for other groups. Of course the idea that GenX was trumpier than Boomers went viral because the historical pattern has always been the older a group is the more conservative they are, and supposedly here's a group that bucked that trend.

It's snowballed since then, with more writers watching for this "trend", and more articles being written by people who didn't even read the polls that started the whole thing, and who continued to read polls with age groups that don't line up to generations, while ignoring other factors in the polls methodology that skewed generational assumptions.

More here: Gen X is not the Trumpiest generation.
