Rule Change - Absolutely NO Sales

Hi everyone:

As you may have seen, moderators of some firearms related subs have recently been made aware of an upcoming change to the Reddit rules (these are the sitewide rules that all users agree to when creating an account, not just rules for our sub) that involves the personal sales of gun "parts and enhancements."

In the past, the Reddit rules - specifically Rule 7, which reads "Keep it legal, and avoid posting illegal content or soliciting or facilitating illegal or prohibited transactions" - had the following list of "illegal transactions":

You may not use Reddit to solicit or facilitate any transaction or gift involving certain goods and services, including

Firearms, ammunition, explosives, legally controlled firearms parts or accessories (e.g., bump stock-type devices, silencers/suppressors, etc.), or 3D printing files to produce any of the aforementioned;

That rule is being updated to read as follows, starting on October 9th:

Firearms, ammunition, explosives, firearms parts and enhancements (e.g. bolt, clips, trigger, scope, silencer / suppressor, muffler, bump stock, magazine, glock switch, conversion kit, etc) or specific instructions (e.g. 3D printing files) to produce any of the aforementioned.

Reddit does have a disclaimer that says:

With regard to Reddit's policy on transactions of certain goods:

External links to firearm vendors holding a Federal Firearms License are not in violation of this policy. However, links to vendors without an FFL are prohibited (this would include links to gun shows or other sales or listings, online or offline, where vendors do not hold an FFL). Direct user-to-user transactions arranged on Reddit for firearms or ammunition are also prohibited, regardless of whether either user holds an FFL.

This policy does not impact goods that do not meet the ATF definition of firearms or ammunition.

It is unclear if that disclaimer will be changed on or after October 9th, and or how that disclaimer affects things like linking to a company that sells magazines or scopes but does not have an FFL, as neither a magazine nor a scope meet the ATF definition of firearms or ammunition.

We used to allow the occasional personal for sale post for non-firearm items like optics or the like, but due to this rule change we will no longer be able to do that, and we have to warn folks that any links posted to any firearms items that are for sale by a non-FFL will be removed.

We don't want to be harsh about this, but it's quite clear that Reddit is cracking down hard on gun content and we really don't want to lose this community, which is already happening to a bunch of gun accessory for sale subs which were banned without any warning in advance of this rule change.

The "Big List" of Industry Vendors Friendly to Marylanders

This Thread will serve as a list of firearms industry vendors who are "friendly" to Marylanders. We have a lot of particular and peculiar laws here, and not all vendors want to (or to be fair, can afford to) take the time to understand those laws and help those of us who live here out.

This list isn't meant to be "vendors that we happen to like" or whatever, but instead a list of vendors who specifically do things to help Marylanders. Some examples of things that should be on this list:

  • Vendors who include standard capacity magazines so a local FFL can block them for us.
  • Maryland FFLs who offer magazine blocking services.
  • Vendors who offer magazine rebuild kits.
  • Vendors (external or Maryland FFL) who will remove muzzle devices or other features to make rifles compliant.

You get the idea. If a vendor does something specifically to help those of us in Maryland, then they belong on this list.

I'll start things off, but I'll add to and maintain this list based on submissions from the community in the form of posts in this thread. I won't always be able to add things immediately, but I will do so as regularly as I can.

Thanks, and thanks especially to the vendors who support those of us in Maryland!

Magazine Rebuild Kits:

  • u/Hunter_Wang who owns Ibex Armament will do magazine rebuild kits on request and has extremely fair pricing. I've bought from Ibex myself and they're great to deal with.
  • JoeBob Outfitters will do magazine rebuild kits on request, though I have no personal experience with them.
  • Magged Supply offers magazine rebuild kits, though their pricing is..... very high.

Dealers that ship standard capacity mags with a firearm:

  • To be added

Maryland FFLs who will block standard capacity magazines:

  • To be added

Vendors who offer Maryland specific discounts:

  • To be added

I will add categories to this list if / when we get requests and enough submissions for one.

Easy to Form 1 SBR

Post image

As best as I can "interpret," Maryland's laws about SBRs, they require "registration with nfa." The nfa is all but dead at this point but could be brought back to life at any major party change. They also issued a notice they would still process NFA items for State's requirements. Since the government already knows about ALL my guns (say they don't!!!) , I figured I'd SBR all eligible candidates in my collection.

  1. Got fingerprints from PrintScan at UPS Store $60

  2. Took passport size photo with phone .

  3. Enter data at eforms website (learn it!)

    CLEO was Chief of Police

  4. Enter gun data. OAL must be 29 or more (or not approved)

  5. Submit

6.Waited a week....BOOM!

(14.5 Super Duty with unpinned huxwrx flash hider)

  1. Submitted 6 more.

btw....under "Description" where we used to put the required engraving info, I put "Convert pistol configuration to short barrel rifle." Engraving is NOT a requirement for approval anymore.

!!!Downside!!! Once made an SBR, it cannot be made a pistol again (my non-lawyer interpretation). 29 in. rule will always apply in Maryland. I left 3 lowers as pistols.

MSP Response on Privately Made Suppressors

Post image
37 Upvotes

When asked about manufacturing suppressors for personal use, the following response was received from MSP:

Hello,
Please be advised that the State of Maryland does not maintain regulations regarding the possession, transfer, or manufacturing of suppressors. Consequently, we are unable to provide specific guidance on this matter. Suppressors do not meet the definition of a firearm under Maryland law and are not subject to serialization under Maryland law currently.

For inquiries regarding the construction of a suppressor, we recommend contacting the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) or consulting with your legal counsel.

They state that serialization of suppressors is not required currently under Maryland law. They defer to the ATF for further guidance. The ATF's "Privately Made Firearms" Page page states "You do not have to add a serial number or register the PMF if you are not engaged in the business of making firearms for livelihood or profit."

IANAL. This is not legal advice. Have fun.

Shipping guns to self from out of state?

Hello everyone, bit of an odd question. I recently moved from AL to MD, but left all of my guns and magazines at my parent’s house (where I moved from) due to the confusing laws. Driving everything up is a pain and flying with them would be a headache, so I’m looking at shipping options.

Here’s what I have (roughly 20 firearms total):
• Mostly SXS or O/U shotguns and milsurp rifles
• 1 stripped AR lower
• 1 complete AR lower
• 1 MP5 .22 Rifle
• 4 handguns
• 2 SCT stripped Glock frames
• A bunch of magazines (mostly standard capacities, and 1 drum)
I’m fully able to possess everything in both states and already have my HQL.

My Main questions:
1. What’s the most cost-effective way to ship the long guns, AR lowers/frames, and magazines to myself in MD?
I’ve looked at ShipMyGun. I’ve also considered USPS for the AR lowers and magazines (seems like a gray area from what I’ve read). Any real-world experience or better options?
2. Any recommended FFLs near Gambrills for the handgun transfers?

Appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Any news on whether this will be added to the roster the next go around? Seems like feedback on these SDRs have been positive. The SDR-A fills the void of the Kimber K6xs no longer being produced.

Key Details
Definition: A bleaching or processing room in a sugar-refining facility where raw sugar drips and separates from molasses.

Charged twice for HGP Application that doesn’t even show ‘submitted’

I was just at the last step of the application process, put in my card info, and once I submitted, I get a “null” pop-up from chrome. Click ok. Keeps me at the same page I was just at. Thought “hm, maybe it didn’t go through and glitched.” So I tried again, same thing happens.

So then I finally get the bright idea to check my bank account, I was charged twice. Licensing portal still shows that it is unsubmitted and never got a confirmation email.

What should I do? Any help would be appreciated.

Auto–Ordnance Thompson M1 semi–automatic?

I'm trying to find out if a Maryland resident can legally purchase and receive an Auto-Ordnance Thompson M1SB, chambered in .45 ACP, with a factory 10.5-inch barrel and 32-inch overall length, as a federally registered short-barreled rifle, despite the Thompson M1 appearing on Maryland's named assault weapon list. If anyone has any experience purchasing this rifle, I would like to know how you went about it.

Gunsmith recommendations?

Got two projects in mind-

Having a 4inch barrel on an older s&w 64 knocked back to 3 inches and recrowned (can’t find factory 3 inch barrels anywhere)

Having a threaded barrel fitted to my 1911 so I can run it suppressed

I’m in harco but can travel, any recommendations?

AOWs with new ATF ruling

Please correct me if Im wrong but MD mentions SBRs and SBSs, Assault Weapons, but does not mention AOWs. If for example I wanted to put a vertical grip on a pistol but no stock i.e. mp5k is there any state law against that? Are there other AOWs that are impacted by this in Maryland?

Individual to individual suppressor sale?

Looking to offload 2 cans locally- NOT FOR SALE ON HERE.

Since these were form 4 to me, I would like to form 4 them to the purchaser. Would I just form 4 it to them and wait for approval and then give them? Can I do this without a dealer?

Just want to make sure this is the way.

And if I was to ship out of state then I would form 3 to their dealer and they handle it from there?

Thank you fellas

First time shooter and was at Gilbert indoor range. I rented a Glock 19 gen 3( no optic or any other add-on and they didn't have the gen 5 or 6 ) and 50 ammo. My Target was out at 10 yard and the way i aim is I close my left eye and aim with my right to line up my shot, probably why my hit stray more to the left?? I plan to eventually try to get my CCW in the future and i read online the shooting portion of the test is up to 15 yard with 70% proficiency( can anyone confirm that?) Any tricks, tips, and advice that can help a beginner like me improve beside more practice, practice, and practice which i plan to do :D

PSA complete uppers shipping

I want to build a .300 blk out AR pistol and have been looking at the complete uppers PSA sells, but I've heard that they wont ship complete uppers to MD

Anyone know if this is still true or if it's changed?

Are there any good alternative to PSA uppers in the same price range that will ship to MD?

77R Form

If I am receiving my firearm back as it was confiscated. What would my application type be classified as for my 77R form? I just submitted one as “other” since all of the options didn’t seem to be a best fit. Wanted to come here and seek guidance in case I was wrong.

Overgas problem?

Have a 10.5” LWRCI with a Rugged Micro 30 on it. Have a H3 buffer to try and dampen how hard the bolt action is when it returns after ejection. However it is so violent it often breaks the retaining pin that holds the buffer in the tube. After a couple hundred rounds the pin is severed.

Any recommendations on how to fix this or should I just keep the suppressor off it.

DA/SA Winter carry w/ specific criteria

I’m dedicated to da/sa appendix carry. With winter on the way I’m interested in picking up something new with the following criteria:

  • DA/SA
  • 9mm
  • Factory optics cut for full size red dot (no “k” dots)
  • Decocker only (no safety)
  • Rail for a light

A threaded barrel would also be nice to have.

It looks like the only options are:

  • Beretta 92GTS, 92X RDO G, M9A4

  • Sig P226 X Legion

Am I missing any options?

For the Beretta the downside is that the optic sits really high. For the Sig, the gun seems great on paper but I’m wary of Sig quality these days (even on the P226 line). They seem to cheap out where ever they can.

I also need to consider which option has better holster compatibility. I’m thinking I might be stuck with the Tier 1 MSP universal holster.

What would you guys go with? I wish HK would just make the P30 or USP with a factory optics cut. Im just not interested in getting an aftermarket cut. I don’t like how most require deleting the rear iron and I’m just not up for shipping my slide.

**Editing to add the Steyr ATD to the list. It’s annoying that is has a safety in addition to the decocker but since the list is small I’ll just add it. My ocd fear is that the safety is a kill switch that I’d rather not have on my carry gun.

Also, I went and found the company developing slides with optic cuts for HK hammer fire guns: https://www.reddit.com/user/DeFenderAutomaticsCo/ I’m hoping they succeed and can be proven to be as reliable as a factory HK because that might be a perfect solution
