Feature How much customisation within LineageOS UI?

Hi, I'm interested in LineageOS for an old Xiaomi that is supported (I want to have it as a secondary phone), but I do have some concerns especially about the UI. Right now I'm using Pixel 7A that I bought just for the camera, and I wholeheartedly hate pixel "pure" stock featureless UI. Don't get me wrong, I hate Xiaomi bloatware too, but there are just too many things on Pixels that I miss every single day (I can give you a list, but from top of my head: flashlight doesn't turn off with power button, on notification bar - wifi and data toggles are broken - two months ago it was not even a thing, nfc toggle doesn't even exist at all, there's as much bloatware as on Xiaomi but for some reason no one cares). Is there a way how to customise LineageOS or is it as empty and featureless as Pixel "pure" android?

I'm interested in what I wrote already, but also things like choosing which sim card to be used when writing sms (doesn't exist on pixel), having brightness bar without swiping the notification bar twice...

Am I lost here, or are there things that can be done? Because I don't really care about colour themes, animations and new wallpapers and stuff (what we saw in the last "development" of android latest versions), but I'm for more customisation that we know from Samsung and Xiaomi and basically every other UI except for Pixel and Motorola...things I miss are the things I took for granted and considered part of android until I bought Pixel... But pixel decided to go the iPhone way for some reason and is becoming quite useless for many people

Feature New "Updater" app is a step backwards in some regards

There should be a one-click option to download - but not begin the installation of - new updates (as there was for years, going back to cyanogen). It is also now twice as many clicks to delete old update files, this used to be a first level menu item! Neither of these things needed to be "fixed". The old UI was clunkier looking but it was better.

Feature Google Fi and GApps

I just bought a G 5G 2024 (supported device) and may have to join my parents' Google Fi plan. Can I order a physical SIM, set up service on stock, and then flash LOS?

Feature How to enable "Allow window-level blurs" without root?

I have a Pixel 4 running LineageOS 24, what I waited with this update is the Blur UI, but unfortunately it is somewhat turned off.

There is an option in Developer Options to toggle this on, but whenever I leave the Settings App, it will automatically revert back to off. There is no option on Accessibility to Reduce Blur, meaning (if im correct) this UI is intended to be turned off to reduce the gpu load.

The option I found and tried is by rooting my device and installing Enable-blurs module and its great knowing it can actually work. Also, adb method to enable this Blur UI is not working.

But, my problems are, apps keep crashing. I noticed after root, apps like Google Camera and Google Photos App keeps crashing, closing the only fixed i found with this issue is by unrooting my device, and dont like rooting.

Right now, my device is unrooted.

Feature Timer now sends notification beeps when app is switched or screen turns off

I just installed the latest update, lineage-23.2-20260716.

Now after I set a timer, and switch away from the time app or the screen turns off, it sends a notification beep.

The first time I used it after the update, it just kept beeping over and over every 5 or 10 seconds for a few minutes, though now it's just once. I'm not sure if it's a bug or it's supposed to be a "feature" -- but it's really annoying.

I just changed the settings to turn off notifications for the timer to "fix" it. The timer still goes off when triggered, without all the beeping.

Feature OMG I just figured the best feature of LineageOS ever.

It can stop charging the battery after a percentage of charge to preserve it. I thought that needed hardware support but apparently not so I was very surprised.

Feature G7 Thinq user, how was your DAC after switching to LineageOS?

As title say, did you lose DAC capability? Any audio enthusiast out there can compare audio output before and after LOS. Did it greatly changed? Any inputs welcome. Thanks

Feature Google blocks apps without a signature or sideloading

In the situation where Google blocks apps without a signature or sideloading, can apps on LineageOS bypass this? And in the future, Android might turn into a lousy knockoff of iOS.

Feature [Question] Is "Vibrate on call connect/disconnect" available in LineageOS?

Hi everyone, I recently switched to LineageOS and I'm really enjoying the experience so far. However, there is one small quality-of-life feature I'm missing from my previous OS: Vibrate on call connect/disconnect.

For those unfamiliar, this feature causes the phone to give a short vibration when the person you are calling picks up (answers) and when the call ends. It’s really useful because I don't have to keep the phone glued to my ear or stare at the screen waiting for the connection. I have looked through the default Dialer settings and the system Sound & Vibration settings, but I haven't been able to find it. 1. Is this feature available natively in LineageOS (I'm on the latest version)? If so, where is the toggle hidden? 2. If it's not available natively, are there any recommended workarounds (specific Dialer apps, Magisk modules, etc.) that work well with LineageOS?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Nicolas

Feature RCS suddenly working again?!

Looks like RCS is working again?!

I’m honestly surprised (and pretty happy) to see that RCS suddenly started working again for me! It used to work until early August (LineageOS 22.02 on a Pixel 6 Pro with Google apps), then stopped (for the known reasons). But now it’s back, at least for me.

Anyone else noticing the same?

Feature Will LineageOS have native Linux Supporr?

Since LineageOS 23 is already under development, I wanted to ask if it will have native Linux Support for Android 16? Is it a Pixel specific feature or a part of the AOSP itself?

Feature Does LOS come with an app (probably called AutoStart) to manage start statuses on reboot? The icon is a red running car.

In LOS 22.2 magisk rooted that app enable/disables each app's start status on reboot and many more, eg start when headset is plugged in, start when screen is on.

I think I suddenly found it after 21 => 22. It wasn't there in earlier versions. I've been using the same phone since LOS 19.1. It was definitely not downloaded.

The UI is rather basic, so it may be a hidden app that needs to be turned on after tweaking some settings.

I upgraded to 23 today, also magisk rooted. For some reason I couldn't restore apps from backup, so this 23 is a factory reset. That app was gone. Can it be brought back?

Feature Feature Suggestion | Manual CPU Throttling (underclock)

It would be so nice to be able to manually limit my CPU cores or clock speeds to save on power. I've got an older flagship that still performs crazy good, but the battery life sucks, so being able to tune my CPU to maximize battery life and sacrifice a little performance would be awesome.

I remember back on my old Nvidia shield tablet, you could disable CPU cores and adjust clock speeds by percentage globally or on a per app basis. It would be really cool if I could do this with system profiles and throttle on a trigger like leaving my home WiFi so I get better battery life when away from home without a charger.

I understand you can throttle with kernal manager apps with root, but it would be awesome to have a feature like this baked into the OS in a more user friendly way.

Feature I got tired of "To disable this SIM, remove the SIM card" nonsense

Hello,
First of all let me start by saying that I adore LineageOS and everything it stands for. I first came into touch with it back 2012-2013 when it was still CyanogenMod. I flashed it on my HTC Sensation (pyramid), and now I'm using LOS on my Xiaomi Mi 5 (gemini). I also tried contributing as much as I could by reporting bugs and donating to the project, so I can proudly say that I've been a member of the family ever since I got my first smartphone.

However, I do have one thing that's been bugging me lately so much so that I couldn't make the transition onto LOS 17.1 (Android 10), but I rather stayed on 16.0 (9.0 Pie), not even because of multiple small bugs here and there (after 8 years I'm more than used to it when it comes to CM/LOS), but what I can't get over so easily is when something clearly isn't a bug, but an actual implementation ("improvement", some might say), even if it doesn't make any logical sense, and instead makes our life and using our devices more difficult for no good reason.

Yes, I'm talking about the thing in the title - the removal of SIM card enable/disable toggle, which went AWOL in latest versions of LOS.

Why for God's sake aren't we able to toggle switch our secondary SIM card anymore, but rather now we're forced to either have it on all the time, or remove it from the phone?

My use case example is that I have my main number which is always on, and then I have my secondary number, which I only turn on around 2-4 times a month: either to pick up a weekly bonus from my phone carrier, or to receive a code to log in into some app or website (because I don't want to give them my main number for security reasons). So now if I want to use that card just for receiving one SMS message, I need to do the following steps (we're considering as if the 2nd SIM card is removed from the phone, which is now equivalent to the toggle being off in 16.0):

In 16.0:

  1. Go into settings for the SIM card (which I actually created the shortcut on my launcher via launcher activity, so it was just one tap, without going through Settings menus)
  2. Enable toggle for 2nd SIM card
  3. Do what I needed to do with it (grab a bonus, copy login code, usually takes less than a minute)
  4. Disable toggle for the card

Nice and easy, 4 step move and it's done in less than a minute.

Now let's compare that to the equivalent process in the 17.1 and after:

  1. Find the secondary SIM card (damn, where did I put it, is it in my drawer, my backpack pocket, on the desk...)
  2. Find the SIM ejector tool (which is usually buried somewhere inside my drawer, or inside my phone's box, but I used it some weeks ago for this exact thing, so I can't remember where I left it)
  3. Remove my phone's case (because I can't access SIM tray without removing it)
  4. Eject the SIM tray
  5. Put the SIM card into the tray
  6. Close the tray
  7. Do what I needed to do with it (usually takes less than a minute)
  8. Open the tray again
  9. Remove the SIM card
  10. Put the SIM tray back in
  11. Wipe phone from fingerprints (because while the case was being removed in order to access SIM tray, I smudged fingerprints all over the glass back)
  12. Put the case back on it
  13. Put the SIM card back somewhere safe
  14. Put the SIM ejector tool back somewhere safe (hoping I won't lose it or forget where they are)

Ta-da! It took me just 5-7 minutes to do an operation I would previously spend 30-60 seconds on.

(Sorry for the lengthy step list, but it was the best way to paint the picture of how one senseless change made it all the more impractical for me and others).

Some might say "Well why don't you just keep your 2nd card inside your phone and keep it enabled all the time?", and to them, I say there are 3 main reasons:

  1. Radiation - I keep my phone inside my pocket and on my night table next to my bed while I sleep. If I need 2nd SIM card for 0.0068% of the time (around 3 minutes total in 31 days), I don't need it trying to connect to cell tower 24h a day if it doesn't need to. I don't need double the radiation in my pocket and next to my head if it's not necessary.
  2. Battery - As you already know, maintaining good signal with cell tower drains the battery. So why would I maintain signal of double the number of SIM cards all the time, where I can do it with only one, and then turn on the second one only when needed, to save battery. Where I live is especially weak signal, and in some older versions of LOS I was able to switch to 2G or 3G automatically when I arrive home, because it was part of Profiles, but it's gone for a while now with no signs of returning.
  3. Common sense - Simply, my logical reasoning can't get used to it (and won't get used to it), because it makes ZERO sense. Instead of improving the software and adding new useful functionalities while keeping the existing good ones and removing bad ones, what is done here is removing the useful functionalities while breaking existing ones and adding new not-so-useful functionalities. I refuse to get used to it and make peace with it because the things got worse for no good reason, and the whole point of updates is improving the user experience and making life easier for users, not degrading it and making it harder for people. Even the formulation of the message in 17.1 is ridiculous in itself ("to DISABLE the card, REMOVE the card").
It's like inventing a new, worse solution to the problem that was already solved in a much better way. Imagine the tall man driving a car, and the solution for him fitting properly inside the driver's seat is to simply move away the seat from the steering wheel, but after the new model year, now the seat isn't movable anymore, and there is a label under the steering wheel saying "In order to fit inside the car, please saw off your legs".

Just to be clear, this rant of mine isn't aimed directly at LOS team, because I don't know whether the change regarding the SIM card toggle was made in LOS or AOSP. So based on that, I have 2 branches of questions:

  1. If it was changed inside AOSP:
    1. Is there a way/chance for it to be overridden with the way it was prior to LOS 17.1?
    2. If not, is there currently a way to change it using some terminal command, editing some file via root and code editor, Magisk module, script, anything?
  2. If it was changed inside LOS on purpose, I only have one question:
    1. Why?

Thanks in advance and sorry for lengthy rant.

Feature Question about the Trebuchet launcher

I notice that in LineageOS 17.1 there was an option to use icon packs on the built in trebuchet launcher, does anyone know why was it removed in newer versions like 22.2? Is there any hope it will be brought back in los 23?

Feature Please prevent airplane mode from resetting the SIM preferences!

I'm running the miatoll rom. The problem after upgrading to Android 15 is, airplane mode just resets my SIM preferences.

My phone is dual SIM so I have to select which SIM I want to use for data and other stuff, but since upgrading to Android 15, I have to select the SIM every single time after putting the phone on airplane mode for some reason.

Please make the phone save those settings like the previous versions of Android.

Feature Pattern Unlock No Longer A Feature?

I recently upgraded to LOS 22.2 (Oneplus 8T) and noticed that the only options to unlock the screen are pin or fingerprint, where previously (LOS 11), there was also the option for pattern unlock.

Due to the nature of my job, I often need to access the phone quickly but entering a pin is a little too slow. I would use the fingerprint option to unlock, but I can't get it to work. I think it may have to do with my screen protector.

Is there a way to add enable this feature as it was on previous versions? I've searched everywhere, but can't find any discussion on it.
