გამარჯობა, მეგობრებო! (EN version bellow)
შევქმენი სრულიად უფასო პორტალი ქართული ენის შესასწავლად (ინტერფეისი ორ ენაზეა: რუსულად და ინგლისურად).
უფასო დარჩება, უბრალოდ მინდა ენისა და კულტურის გავრცელებას შევუწყო ხელი, რადგან ეს ქვეყანა ძალიან მხიბლავს.
ამჟამად გვაქვს:

მოხარული ვიქნები, თქვენი აზრი რომ გავიგო!

Hey guys,
I made a completely free language portal for learning Georgian (we support two languages: RU/EN).
We will stay free, I just want to help spread the language and culture, because I’m very amazed by the country.
Here is the link: https://vergavi.ge/en/
I’d be glad to hear your feedback!

It seems both of them mean "without X". Is there a difference or nuance between the two?
r/Kartvelian • u/Rmeloba394sswk • 4d ago
და has many meanings. Its primary one is “down,” but it also means “onto a surface,” plurality, habitual actions, and addressing to someone, like how დამღერის means “sings to someone.”
Does it also mean completion? I think of the words დასრულება and დამთავრება and think there might be a pattern, but those are only 2 verbs and I don’t want assume anything.

In English, both natives and non-natives will make up new words all the time for the sake of creativity. Does Georgian culture accept this or is it more strict?
Georgian has a very rich and complex system for creating new words with meanings that vary slightly so I feel like it has to allow it somewhat. I was at work and randomly came up with a weird verb: გაათაგვებს/თაგვდება (becoming a mouse).
I have no idea in what context you might say such a thing but maybe it could be used to say that someone became shy and avoidant like a mouse: „

Are you a native speaker of Georgian and willing to help out in research? Please reply to my questionnaire about Georgian dialects!
I'm a Linguistics Master's student from University of Helsinki, Finland conducting a research project on Georgian dialects. My study depends on me getting as many answers as possible, so any help would be greatly appreciated :)
I'm traveling to Georgia (Tbilisi, Kutaisi & Zugdidi) with my research group 17.-26.10., so there's also a possibility for a short 20-30min face-to-face interview if you would be interested!
დიდი მადლობა დახმარებისთვის!❤️

Good morning, everyone. I recently began studying Georgian. I have a question about the sound of გ at the beginning of a word. Already while listening to more than one source material, I hear an unaspirated c sound instead of a g sound. In the word "gamarjoba", for example, I hear "camarjoba". ChatGPT doesn't seem to agree with me. Is my ear hearing correctly?

Gamarjoba!
I'm Georgian (but repressions made it that I don't know Georgian but getting there... I posted here already some posts but for people who don't know my story I put it in all my posts).
I'm doing research about indigenous Kartvelian names and wanted to know native Kartvelians' thoughts about a few I found :
Dzega (ძეგა), Svan name
Ucha (Mingrelian name meaning "black, dark")
Datua (comes from Datvi = bear)
Dato (Datvi, bear)
Dzarga (ძარგა), used in Samegrelo
K'vara (კვარა), used in Samegrelo
Gak'u (გაკუ), Svan name
Gia (გია) (comes from Giorgi)
Orde (ორდე) (used by Megrelians, comes from "to be" in Megrelian)
Kveli (ქველი) (meaning "kind")
Let me know your opinions, which one do you prefer (just by curiosity) and which would potentially have negative connotations or made fun at by slang or something.
Do any of those have any slang usage or meanings?
I also don't know if some of the names are female. Normally they are all male.
(Additional info about my post : I used various resources to find the names as well as the book "ქართველური საკუთარი სახელები", written by Alexandre Glonti (also known as Alex Glonti), a Georgian academic, technology professional, professor and researcher based in Tbilisi, Georgia. This book is an extensive research made by him and has 334 pages.

Hi,
Native Georgian speaker here. I’ve been teaching for about 3 weeks now (mostly people from Reddit) and I’m open to new students.
Before that I spent years helping international volunteers and non-natives practice conversation and adapt to everyday situations.
I cover everything from absolute beginner to advanced and always keep an individual approach. Looking to start from zero, improve casual speaking, or just survive markets and taxis, I'm happy to help.
Still keeping prices budget-friendly compared to language apps.
Feel free to DM me anytime.

Gamarjoba!
I'm Georgian (from Samegrelo to be specific), but sadly I don't know how to speak well my native language (repressions etc...), but I'm getting there.
I would like to have some help from native speakers to find indigenous native Kartvelian or Mingrelian male first names. Not borrowed from other cultures. Native ones.
What are some unique names that you know?
I found "Datua", "Ucha", "Orde", "Kveli", "Dzabu" (Svan), "Dzarga" (Zugdidi).
Also, do you know some names that start with the letter "ძ"?

Hello!
I am currently studying Georgian names and the laws of forming Georgian names.
I have seen many variations of the shortened form of Giorgi for example : Gia, Gio, Giga...
Also I learned about a tradition of adding the ending -a to words to make nouns. For example Dzali --> Dzala (the Strong one).
So I wanted to know if the name "Dzela" would be something that you could think of as a variation of the word Dzala formed by tradition with the -a ending, but with a variation in the middle.
I also know that Dzeli is an actual word and means "pillar", "beam", "wooden support beam". Correct me if I'm wrong.
Let me know what you think.
