White people don't all have identical responses to sun exposure. Some of my family members tan quite a bit more than I do with roughly equivalent time spent in the sun. I mostly just turn pink. Others in my family who spend significantly more time in the sun have tans a bit more on par with meme Cleo here, but tan lines that will blind you.
Everyone's different.
