Starlink just teased a program where people host infrastructure and earn from how it gets used: article here
Helium has been running that model since 2019. Here's what we've learned.
The radio is the easy part. What makes a people-built network actually work is everything that comes after it:
Helium built the largest people-built wireless network. Then we built the software layer that makes networks like it more usable and more valuable to carriers, devices, and the people who host them.
More siloed networks isn't the answer. Interoperability is. Any device finding the best access point for the job, automatically, with no friction.
The model is proven and the infrastructure is live. Now we're bringing the tools to the rest of the industry.
Curious what you all think about Starlink getting into this space.

If you pull Mobile network data from the old S3 files, you’ll need to switch over before November 1, 2026.
The upside: the data is now queryable with SQL and free to read.

Billions went into satellite coverage this week. None of it will reach the inside of your building.
70 to 80 percent of mobile data is used indoors, behind drywall, brick, and concrete that no signal from orbit can cross. The Wi-Fi your venue already owns can carry that traffic, and earn from it, with no new construction.
50,000+ locations are already on the network.

I was wondering if anyone had experience with using the powerline-like adapters that transmit internet over electricity for helium mobile outdoor hotspots. I confirmed that the outlets I would use are on the same circuit (running lights and a few outlets with no heavy appliances).
Putting a mobile hotspot on balcony and the window fittings are very tight, the flat ethernet cables may still pinch and fail over time so I was wondering if this would be a viable alternative if I get 600 mbps adapters?

I’ve seen this for about a year or more now. Is it important to anyone at Helium that this warning is there for anyone who looks at the coin on CoinGecko? I understand if it’s a true statement but it’s probably offputting to anyone researching HNT.

What happened to remote reboot on hotspots ? It was there before now it’s gone why did that feature get taken away ?

Recently I realized that my wallet hacked and all the HNTs and hotspots transferred to another wallet. I shut down the hotspots but is there any way to get transfer back to my wallet? Can Helium support do something?

I recently bought this Helium Mobile outdoor hotspot off of Ebay and had the owner transfer ownership to me. I was trying to reassert its location in the helium app and was running into this error despite having enough SOL for the processing fee. Any idea how to fix this? Do I need to just buy more SOL?
EDIT: Solved! I am dumb, just need more SOL, its working now ty.

I've had this thing connected to power for years at this point and not setup, because the user experience of onboarding is a ridiculous joke.
It tells you to scan the QR code but it won't allow your device to focus and scan the damn thing.
Anyhow, I took a picture of the QR code, zoomed in with another phone and I used my phone to then scan it to onboard.
However, when I get to setting the location through the Helium app, it gives me a vague error and fails setup.
I'm thinking perhaps it has something to do with this device being located at a different address previously years ago, so I'm wondering what I might need to do to fix this thing and get it set and online at my permanent residence.
Update: Enabled Helium Wallet and updated the app, updated Helium Hotspot app.
Went into the Freedom Fi settings of the old location and tried using "Assert Location," which now sorta seems to get me further along.
However, it opens up and hangs. See image below.

"Full bars but no service" in a stadium, airport, or mall almost always traces to one cause: the building's distributed antenna system (DAS) passes only a fraction of the spectrum modern phones are built to use. The phone connects to a legacy LTE channel shared with thousands of other devices, reports a strong signal, and then waits in line for data. The bars are measuring signal strength, not capacity.
What Is a DAS Passband?
A distributed antenna system is a network of indoor cell antennas that rebroadcasts carrier signal through a large building. The cables, connectors, and combiners behind those antennas (the passive plant) were specified to pass a fixed range of frequencies, called the passband. Much of the DAS equipment in US venues was installed around the 2011 LTE rollout and specified for the four main bands phones used then.
A DAS passes frequencies, not technologies. It works like plumbing: any signal inside the passband flows through, and any signal outside it requires new hardware in the walls. There is no software update that fixes this.
How Long Do New Spectrum Bands Take to Reach Venues?
Over the past decade carriers added new spectrum layers to the outdoor macro network, and phones adopted them quickly. Venues did not keep pace. Each new band has to wait on DAS vendor modules (historically two to three years), then venue budgeting and procurement, then a physical retrofit. Helium's analysis of vendor datasheets and band timelines shows bands outside the original passband reached a typical venue DAS five to six years after they went live on macro towers. Band 66 modules arrived generally around 2022, three years after half of US phones carried the band. C-band, in most venues, never arrived at all.
How Much Spectrum Does a Legacy DAS Actually Pass?
In a September 2026 analysis, Helium scored 100 US handset models, weighted by sales and survival, against three upgrade paths for a 2011-era DAS:
That is the "full bars, no service" experience: the phone camps on a legacy 10 or 20 MHz LTE carrier shared with thousands of people, the band is overloaded, and the page does not load.
What Can Venue Operators Do About Network Congestion?
Three moves, in order of effort:

Hello,
Is it normal that the income is so low?
Having the miner on 8M hight with a 8DB antenna. After all changes I can't see the whitnesses anymore..

I've been out of the loop for some time, and I have a Bobcat 300 Miner. I saw some popup in the Black Wallet for migration to Helium World.
What's the point of it? I remember that some time ago, we migrated from the Blue Helium Wallet. Is this the next upgrade that we have to do? Is it mandatory?

Hi all,
I Imported my wallet on my new iphone and once imported I lost all of my HNT and IOT and solana I had. Even my hotspots do not appear. The seed-phrase was correct and all the steps I followed etc.
Any idea what could have happened and how I can fix it ?

This is a dumb question, but what happened with heliums reward system??? I saw that they switched to something rather than coverage reward, it’s data transfer? If someone can dumb it down for me please? How can I turn my current hotspot to do this? And why did helium do this? My current hotspot is from 2020.

Hey all, I had a couple of Emrit miners back during my days in college in 2020 (I know we don’t like Emrit). I recently got an apartment in an urban center somewhat close to a waterfront and it seems like there are no hotspots within 5-6 blocks, the area is considered an expansion zone. I am wondering whether purchasing an outdoor hotspot can atleast pay itself off in tokens now, I have not been keeping up with all the developments.
I also noticed that there are a few models of helium hotspots that can be found on eBay for $80-100, much cheaper than Heliums $500 outdoor hotspot. What is the deal with used/resale(new) being so much cheaper?

Carriers have basically stopped funding distributed antenna systems (DAS) in hotels, they're expensive to build and maintain, and hotels rank low on the priority list compared to stadiums, transit, etc. So Ocean Properties (the group behind the Opal Collection) found a workaround: their enterprise Wi-Fi, which they already own and maintain, now carries mobile carrier traffic through Helium on a separate SSID, right alongside guest internet. No new hardware, no construction. Guests don't have to do anything either, no app, no sign-in page, phones just connect using SIM credentials.
72 venues across 5 brands are now live on Helium Plus.
Three Bar Harbor, ME hotels are the clearest proof point. They went live ahead of the 2026 tourist season and the swing in usage is pretty wild:
That's roughly a 390x seasonal swing, absorbed on access points that were already sitting there.
Scale doesn't seem to be a requirement either. The Olde Naples Hotel in FL has carried 6.8 TB across 713,854 sessions from a single access point since going live in May.
For context, Helium's now at 42,000+ Hotspots across the US, serving 1.5M+ people daily. Feels like a good real-world example of offload demand actually showing up when the infra's already in place.

Hi, I’m part of an academic research team at Michigan State University, and we’re conducting interviews about the Helium Network. We’re interested in why you got involved and what has kept you involved. Our goal is to better understand how DePIN networks function from the perspective of those who build and operate nodes. These interviews will take place over Zoom, lasting less than 60 minutes, and we’ll give you $50 for participating.
If you’re willing to share your experiences with us, please fill out the survey and someone from our team will reach out shortly: https://msu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_73UOP6KxHEGHlYO
Thanks so much!
