We're an all-female dev team (one programmer, one illustrator, plus me for marketing/publishing, official website here) making the horse game we've always wanted to play:
Horses of Hoofprint Bay is a lovingly hand-drawn 2D barn buildup game where you take care of your horses, train them to build up their strength and confidence, and compete for prize money! Breed adorable foals, hire and manage staff, and build the stable of your dreams!
We initially launched our demo for Steam Horse Fest in February, where it did really well and got a truly incredible amount of positive reviews.
The game's full release is now only two weeks away (November 4th!), and we just updated our Demo to better represent the game and participate in Steam Next Fest this week.
We now have updated balancing (you start with a weaker horse!), but also tons of new features such as walking your horses (and foals!), horses having face markings and leopard patterns, desensitization training, personality traits, cross country competitions and caprilli tests, as well as more sound effects and music tracks and tons of smaller improvements.
We would love for you to give the new demo a try and let us know what you think!
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask us anything, all three of us will keep an eye on the post š„°
(This post was cleared with the subreddit's mods beforehand, thank you for the opportunity!\*)*
PS:
If you've been here for a while, you might remember me announcing my horse game website here over 8 years ago. It was that website and the community around it that eventually led to the formation of this team and the creation of this game, full story here. Never underestimate the power of just refusing to shut up about the things you want to see happen in the world šā¤ļø
PPS: Probably good to point this out: our game is entirely human-made, without generative AI!

I enjoy playing games and so does my boyfriend. But we donāt have a lot of overlap of what we enjoy playing.
He tends to enjoy Strategy, RPGs and shooters (battlefield, Helldivers, Holdfast :Battles.., Age of Empires, Spider-Man..) not battle royale style shooters). And I enjoy Sandbox, RPGās, Cozy (Terraria, Minecraft, Fable, Assassinās Creed, Dredge, Foundation, Elden rings, stardew, cupheads etc).
The games weāve tried are it takes two (we Havnt finished), split fiction (Havnt finished), stardew (he didnāt understand the game), Peak (He enjoyed the first time and then hasnāt been in the mood to play again), Lego voyagers (we finished the story) etc.
weāre just about to start Baldurs gate 3.
But the problem is, I donāt enjoy shooters, and the RPGs we enjoy are more single player focused. So we have a limited amount of multiplayer games we could play, and most of em donāt appeal to him (heās not in the mood to play em).
We just need suggestions of games we could play. That we both may enjoy.
I also find it frustrating when he will say no to playing a game with me, and then his freinds ask him to play and itās an instant yes. (Even though itās more based on the genres, helldivers instead of Baldurs gate for instance). But itās just annoying cause heās the only person who I can play games with, I donāt have any irl friends who also enjoy video games.

EDIT TO ADD: Wow - thank you so much, everyone! I went to bed with a heavy heart (and a little self-disgust for scrolling Reddit for five hours straight) and woke up to TONS of thoughtful suggestions. I'm going to make a list of everything below and check it all out in the coming days. I so greatly appreciate you all!
To answer a couple of question/wonderings: I haven't actively played anything yet on Steam. I downloaded it last winter with the idea of playing Baulder's Gate, since I just started playing a D&D campaign, and my daughter suggested I try it to learn the mechanics. My laptop couldn't run it, and I haven't tried anything else. But the app is sitting on my desktop, waiting to be used. I used to play Final Fantasy in my younger days but stopped at FFX. On that note, I was considering revisiting those, because those intimately tie into my loss, but I hate the idea of attempting tactical/battle games without controllers. I may look into acquiring a gaming station so I can play those (to finish the replays my loved one started), but I'm not ready yet.
Thank you again. You're a wonderful community.
Hi, everyone. I've been dealing with some depression while grieving a personal loss, and that's been manifesting itself as mindless scrolling on Reddit every evening and late into the night. I don't want to continue doing that night after night, but I'm not quite ready to get back to my usual free-time pursuits, so I'd like to ask for recommendations for some laid-back games I could spend my time on instead. Some guide points:
- I'd play on my laptop, which is a Samsung Galaxy 3 running Windows 11 with all the basic graphics/RAM/storage that comes with that, so obviously, nothing too graphics-intensive.
- I have Steam but can also play through a browser.
- I like puzzle-type games and exploration with beautiful or kitschy artwork, music, and stories. I don't like platform hopping, battlefield maneuvering, or fighting (in this context, anyway).
All suggestions are appreciated!

EDIT
I just finished 6.0 aka base Endwalker. I havenāt done any post story content yet including story.
So the game despite being an MMO is very story focused and so I will keep from deep story spoilers for those of yall wanting to play or playing it but like. That being said, I am just pleased how represented we are in the game. Like to start, the 3 main leaders of the starting city states are all women, and they arenāt just leaders in name only with male associates doing all the real work, they are 100% in charge and respected, and it just makes me feel so joyful and happy you know? Especially in a world like ours where men⦠yeah lol.
On top of this, playing as a woman in this story just makes shit even more badass. You are the āWarrior of lightā and as you progress through the story and expansions, people of all ages and genders will look up to you, the woman who has done so much of the seemingly impossible and lived to tell the tale. You will have children looking up to you, city leaders doing so too⦠like it feels so gratifying when that shit in my experience, is rare with women. Rarely does it feel that we are we just respected by all, and so many people will think lesser of us or being a who we areā¦
Oh and this does get into spoiler but eventually we do get a male rival of sorts who gives no shit about your gender or race. He just wants to kick your ass and it feels so fucking AMAZING. NORMALIZE MALE AND FEMALE RIVALS.
I have a lot more to say really than this surface level stuff but like yeah, FF14 is good. For those that play, I have only finished base Endwalker.

As far as I know, the entire game could be finished in a hour or two flat.
There was also a 2007 sequel (Endangered Animals) and a few console ports. I don't think I ever played the sequel.

I started seeing ballet videos on my feed and now I'd like to play a ballet game. But I can't find anything, only horror games. Like "Serbian Dancing Lady" or "The Dancer." The good news is I found a ballet mod for The Sims 4. Anyway, now that we have a dressmaker, it's time for a ballet game, maybeājust an idea.
That's all, have a nice day. š
Edit: I found this game that's coming out next year. TSAREVNA

I know Iām probably not the first to ask this here but I need to discuss this with the girlies!
Okay so Iām planning out my first day for my duo because Iām taking my tiiiime with these two lol.
The first thing Iām doing is checking out the ācreate a simā and get them ready for the gym (hopefully with a back up change of clothes in the car), then gonna head to the nearest store for healthy snacks before a work out. Then to the nearest gym for a workout together. Hopefully they can shower and change at the gym and then theyāre off to find the Zoo! I hope I can find it but Iām sure there will be several distractions along the way and Iām so here for it!
If youāre planning on playing into the romance aspect of the game do you have plans for a first day/date?

I like to play games that are "in season" so I was curious for anyone else like me, what Halloweenie games are you playing right now? I've been bouncing between Two Point Museum's spooky map and a Halloween Sims 4 game. So what games do you like/recommend to get in the spooky mood this year?
