Discussion I am only about 14 episodes in and...

• Upvotes

This series seems pretty xenophobic. I am sure it gets less so over the course of the series but so far it seems pretty clear that the Amanto are stand ins for foreigners who opened up the country in the 1800's and are generally seen as antagonistic or a heavy nuisance.

Discussion Doesn't the scene where Kamui leaves Kagura standing in the rain actually make no sense at all? Spoiler

gallery

In the "Yoshiwara in Flames" arc, there is a brief flashback showing Kamui leaving Kagura behind in the rain. But, in reality, this scene shouldn't even be possible. Kamui is carrying a bundle, presumably containing some of his belongings, when he leaves. We know that Kamui departs after severing Umibouzo’s arm; it’s as if he went back home, gathered his things, and then headed off to join the Harusame. Furthermore, the outfit Kamui wears in the scene with Kagura in the rain is different from the one he wears when he cuts off Umibouzo’s arm.

Yet, when we see Abuto taking Kamui to the Harusame, Kamui is carrying that same bundle of belongings and he’s wearing the exact outfit he had on when he severed Umibouzo’s arm.

This would imply that after the fight with Umibouzo, Kamui left, perhaps to tend to his wounds, then returned home, changed his clothes, packed his things, and spoke with Kagura. Afterward, he would have had to change back into his original outfit before meeting up with Abuto. All of this would have to happen in about five minutes, since the Harusame certainly wouldn't wait around. And, for the flashback to feature rain, it would also have to have rained during those five minutes.

There’s a contradiction here somewhere.

Discussion Kagura is wearing pajamas, change my mind.

I know this outfit isn’t actually pajamas, but it reminds me of them. It looks more like sleepwear than something you’d wear out on the street. It’s cute, but no one else could pull it off, only Kagura could walk around in an outfit that looks like pajamas.

Question when did Housen first meet Hinowa ? after he quit the Harusame or before ? Spoiler

correct me if i'm wrong, but In Rakuyou arc,Housen was still with Harusame when kid Kamui decided to join him and that was 8-10 years before the start of the story. but in Yoshiwara flashback,Housen already met Hinowa who was still a kid and Hinowa in Yoshiwara arc is already in her 30s. doesn't that mean they already met since more than 20+ years ago ? did Housen maybe already came to earth before he quit Harusame ? there were definitely already many Amanto who came to earth before the Joui war first started,so maybe Housen as well

Discussion How much you rank Gintama as a long term watcher?

I started watching anime occasionally from 2013. From 2016,I was watching almost every show till 2021 amd covered almost 600-700 shows including countless mangas. Even after all this watch. I still rank Gintama among my Top 3 of all time.

I Don't know if It's just pure nostalgia or something, but no shows cast and fun captured me like Gintama did. From the protagonist to almost every single character, they have their story beautifully potraited. And the protagonist and his journey was beyond ordinary! Also it has so humane that I could relate a lot, I can surely say I picked up a lot of habit from Gintoki, and GINTAMA had and have a long going influence on my lifestyle.

If anyone is Here with 400-500+ anime, gow much do you rank Gintama till now? By the way, I first finished Gintama on par with the release till 2018 (Silver soul arc), and re watched it again from scratch on 2021 before watching the very final.

I have all of the currently translated English manga already but since it only goes up to 23 I bought the whole series in Japanese. I want to read the manga online and then translate the Japanese manga I currently have. I don’t really know where I can find the manga online so does anyone have any recommendations?

Gintama (銀魂 lit. "Silver Soul") is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Sorachi Hideaki and serialized, beginning on December 8, 2003, in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump. Set in an Edo which has been conquered by aliens named Amanto, the plot follows life from the point of view of samurai Sakata Gintoki, who works as a freelancer alongside his friends Shimura Shinpachi and Kagura to pay the monthly rent. Sorachi added the science fiction setting to develop characters to his liking after his editor suggested a historical series.
