Discussion 2 Steps forward, 100 steps back

Opened my Firefox to do some work, I have tabs & tab groups saved for my personal & professional workflows. Apparently there was some update which it does instantly. It closes and reopens, to a bunch of visually corrupted tabs and icons. No words rendering. I go to close & reopen, and it looks fine but wiped my tabs, groups, workflows; ALL without saving it to the recently closed windows in history. resyncs instantly.

now I have to use fucking Claude to recover my history... Seriously? can they get it together and do some bug testing first??

💻 Help Is there a working extension/method that can give volume gain to specific tabs?

All the extensions I've used in the past have broken after a recent update. I genuinely cannot hear a lot of audio and videos because they are too quiet, and Firefox's volume is already maxed out in Windows.

Does anyone know of a good extension or method?

💻 Help Frequent freezing/lockup crashes since "new look" patch.

So I'm generally a pretty grumpy anti-change person about UX design on principle(I like it how I like it, I don't care if a designer thinks what I like is wrong or what they think I should like is better, play with your own browser and leave mine alone), but this time around there's the lovely added bonus that I keep getting seemingly totally random total lockups of the browser. No rhyme or reason to it, I'll be opening a menu, or clicking to switch tabs, or open a new tab and bam, trying to click between tabs stops working, menues stop working, can't even close the browser with the X icon I have to go into task manager and first kill crashhelper.exe and then kill all Firefox processes(I have to do it that way around or else some of the Firefox processes will refuse to close and the only way to get the browser launched again is to restart the whole PC).

In what universe do half-bummed updates like this "improve the user experience"?

💻 Help Love FF but the PDF prints are poor quality

I've been enjoying FF for years. I use it on my business laptop where I print out shipping labels for our Zebra thermal printer. I've been noticing that the print quality is grainy and poor. I tried to print using Safari and also OsX preview and the labels come out totally fine. I've tried to research this but it seems like it's been a complaint for years? Is there really no solution to it?

The whole ui “improvement” of the new update has very big purple accent in the setting and buttons etc. I was wondering if their a way to customise the accent. I don’t mind the roundness of the new ui but the ai purple is bugging me.

Add-ons I made an add-on to check images for Google's SynthID watermark (drag, right-click or pick)

(Disclosure: I made this.) SynthID Check is on AMO: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/synthid-check/
(there's also a Chrome version if you use both: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mjicegnbongnocknmmmgfkcogeaakgdf)

Drag an image onto the corner drop box, right-click an image/video/audio, or use "Pick media on this page" (Alt+Shift+S). The file is attached to Google's official detector at synthid.com in a new tab; you sign in there and see the result. It only handles a single file you choose and doesn't automate around the site's terms. Limits: detects only SynthID (not a general AI detector), no text, streaming video can't be captured. Open source: https://github.com/mikkisnuyh/synthid-check. Happy to take bug reports.

💻 Help Possible to access old sync?

I accidentally wiped all of the tabs on my mobile app because I didn't realize it was part of the "Clear Browsing Data" menu. I was just trying to clear cache and it cleared the 130 tabs I had saved, including a lot of important stuff.

I went to my computer to access the sync but right as I was about to open all, they disappeared from the synced tabs.

Is it possible to access a previous sync? I already tried the "sessionstore-backups" thing and that didn't bring up synced tabs from other devices, and if i look at "recently closed tabs" on my phone they obviously aren't there because of how they were closed. I'm really freaking out right now.

Solved Reducing minimum size of tabs?

Is there any way to reduce the minimum size of tabs with the new theme?

I seem to remember they went down to the same size as the pinned tabs, possibly with one or two letters, but now they won't get smaller than 2-3 times the icon width...

I know there are some workarounds, like tab groups or just closing my darn tabs, but I'd prefer it if I could just get an answer to the question in the title.

Not a huge deal, but it would save me a little bit of bother...

Solved Is there a way to make all links in the results of a search open in a new tab?

SOLVED! Middle Click does this! Wow. Tks Harry....

I am getting tired of the clicked on site from search results often preventing me from going back to look at the rest of my search results and having to retype it back in. Seems like that should be how Chrome works due to being Assholes, but it should not be the same in FireFox.. Yes, I know I can right click and tell it to open in a new window, but I forget often and its really getting aggravating its not built into Firefox. I would find it hard to believe its not able to be done. Maybe time to find a different browser that is more customer centric? Any suggestions of a browser that allows me to set that since FF doesn't have that available in Tabs and Browsing..

Discussion Which Profiles management to choose?

Two profile management systems coexist in Firefox:

  1. The legacy system: `about:profiles` reads the `profiles.ini`.
  2. The new profile management system introduced in Firefox, it stores its profiles in a SQLite database (the `Profile Groups/` folder) rather than in `profiles.ini`.

Is there any caveat with the new system?

Found a great extension to replicate Zen's "Glance" link preview in Firefox

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

I recently switched from Zen to Waterfox because I couldn’t quite get used to vertical tabs. However, I really missed Zen’s "Glance" feature-being able to quickly preview links without opening new tabs or cluttering my workspace is something I use all the time.

After trying out a few alternatives, I came across an extension called Glance link preview. It’s not a 1:1 copy of Zen's implementation, but it gets the job done nicely for quick previews. Permissions are minimal and it doesn't seem to track anything.

Just sharing it here in case anyone else misses that feature or wants something similar on Firefox. Has anyone found other ways or extensions to handle quick link previews like this?
