To post or comment in r/Edmonton, you need to meet the following criteria:
Accounts need to be a week old.
You need to have a verified email address.
You need to have a minimum amount of TEN (10) COMMENT karma from participating in OTHER SUBREDDITS than r/Edmonton.
Why? This helps keep bad actors away, like trolls and banned users. It also helps users new to reddit to have a chance to learn how to use reddit outside of r/Edmonton.
#IF YOUR ACCOUNT HAS NOT FULFILLED ALL THREE REQUIREMENTS ABOVE, YOUR POSTS AND COMMENTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DELETED BY THE AUTO-MODERATOR.
#How to verify your email for new users :
To verify your email on Reddit, either click the verification link in the email you received when creating your account or go to Settings > Account Settings and choose Update email address to resend the verification email. _Once you request it, open your email's inbox, find the verification email, and click the link inside to complete the process._
- On the web -
• Go to your account settings by clicking your profile icon and then selecting Settings.
• Click on Account Settings.
• Find the email address section. If you see an option to "resend verification email" or similar, click it.
• Alternatively, you can navigate directly to reddit.com/prefs/update/ to find the email settings.
-- On the app --
• Tap your profile icon.
• Go to Settings.
• Select Account Settings.
• Tap Update email address.
• Tap the button to Resend verification email.
#What is the difference between POST karma and COMMENT karma?
Post karma is earned when users upvote the original submissions (links, images, text posts) you create, reflecting your ability to share engaging content.
_Comment karma is earned when your replies to others' posts are upvoted, showing your active participation and contribution to discussions. Both are totaled for your profile but often used separately to satisfy subreddit restrictions._
Gained from creating threads or posting links. It indicates a good ability to initiate conversations.
Gained from replying to posts or other comments. It indicates active participation in community dialogue.
Key Differences: Post karma rewards content creation, while comment karma rewards interaction.
#Some subreddits (like r/edmonton) require specific thresholds of either type (or both) to prevent spam, often looking at post, comment, or combined totals for restrictions.
Both types of karma are not a 1:1 ratio with upvotes; instead, they represent a weighted score from community upvotes, reduced by downvotes.
(In order to post in r/Edmonton - you need to do THREE things:)
your account must be a WEEK old (7 days)

Distinctions between a "job seeking" post and "general advice" will be made at the discretion of the moderators. If you are moving from another location to Edmonton, please note the advice from the community is consistently "have a job lined up before you move".

Have you noticed this? When it comes to Edmonton bylaws and policies (bike lanes, infill, bag fees) some of the loudest people are those from the surrounding areas?
They are not Edmonton tax base and they have no political voice in municipal issues. They are not voters.
Why don't they just stay in their rural area or town if they don't like Edmonton?

About one-third of ballots remain unprocessed in the Beverly/Clareview and Castle Downs ridings. Voters in those parts of the city likely voted “No to the Nine,” so there may be still be a shift in at least one of the results.
Province-wide, there are about 200 polls where counting continues, many of them in hybrid urban/rural ridings up north.
I think No has mathematically clinched on the issues of opting out of federal social services regulations and who controls judicial appointments. On provincial laws superseding federal laws, the result has flipped to No, but only a few thousand votes separate the two sides.
Apparently more than 49 per cent of voters have chosen the No side on abolishing the Senate. I didn’t think that question would be close.
Other Edmonton ridings with polls still reporting include Ellerslie, City Centre, Highlands/Norwood, North-West, and Manning, with the latter still short 11 polls.

I took other Redditors' advice and went to Est-Elle Academy of Hair Design for what would typically be a $300-400+ service, in my experience - a balayage/"foilyage" on hair that was 80% dyed brown (turning red over time) and 20% new growth with greys. They did such a great job matching my roots, covering the greys, and toning down all the red. This should grow out beautifully. And it was $160+ tip! My stylist did say that they don't get paid because they're students - I think the fees mostly cover supplies, the rent and operation of the salon, and the consultation time with the teachers - so I made sure to leave a generous tip because the students get to keep that. So if you're looking for affordable hair treatments, I'd recommend giving them a try.

A couple of homes in Parkland (Westend) who clearly love Halloween. The time these homeowners put into this is nothing short of amazing. Great job!!!!!

Apparently there have been sightings in Chinatown/downtown recently. Please keep an extra close eye if you live in that area and call the number if you see this fella around.

Why are bus drivers suddenly refusing to stop at your requested stop, and let you off ? It's happened to me 3 times now. Always the 915 from Jasper Place to West Edmonton Mall. And always at night. It's ridiculous and starting to become a problem. He wouldn't let me off until I threatened to call the cops on him

Hi, our indoor cat (Valla) slipped out the door this morning and has been missing all day. I'm worried she may have gone further than our direct vicinity as there's a dog park nearby. However I'm also worried she may have gotten stuck somewhere as when she escaped previously she hid under our neighbour's porch/stairs... but she's a little chubby and may have squeezed herself somewhere.
She's a very sweet but skittish so she may not approach even if you call her name. She's a dilute calico (grey, orange and white). Please keep an eye/ear out for her and check under your porches or basement window wells if you are in the area!

Hi all. After a vet visit today we found out our tiny chihuahua Levi has skin cancer that is progressing rapidly. The vet prescribed some medications to ease any discomfort, but as he is 15 years old this year, we have decided this is the end of the road. </3
Absolutely heartbroken of course. The vet says he has from 1 to 3 months before it gets very bad. 6 months would be an absolute joy for us but with how quickly it has gotten this severe we believe 3 is being generous.
What are some of the best things we can take him to do to enjoy this last bit of time? He is a very small boy and has trouble walking, so I don't believe walks down the river valley would be good - maybe a walk when we carry him haha but he needs easy to do things for very small dogs. Pup cups are on the list, plain burger patties, things like that, of course we don't want to upset his tummy or make him feel worse in any way but he will be getting whatever treats he wants rest assured <3.
I'm looking for any and all things either meant for pups, or things in the city we may not know about that we can take him to enjoy! Thank you everyone. <3 I'll make a link with some photos of levi and post it in the comments for dog tax

With EPS now having live access to ETS transit cameras, does anyone know if they're using Al to analyze that footage? EPS are currently using AI facial recognition technology on their bodycams, and it was recently reported that they're using Al software to monitor social media. Other police departments have quietly expanded Al surveillance by connecting it to third party camera networks after initially presenting the technology as limited in scope. Does anyone know whether Al is being used on ETS camera feeds?

I was curious if anybody has tried the taco cart that has been on the corner of Jasper Ave (North side) and 105 street, right off Michael Phair park?
I see people eating there, and I am intrigued, but I am not sure if the tacos are good, so I am looking for an endorsement or review.
Thanks, Reddit of Edmonton.

Fellow guy here! 36, 2 kids and work in a corporate gig.
I'm from Vancouver B.C. 👋 and for the past few months I've been organizing a guys social event type of thing over beers at various bars in Downtown, Vancouver. It's received a really big response here and I recently began organizing them in Calgary (they'll be having their third one in a couple weeks) and Saskatoon (coming up this weekend).
I was thinking of potentially organizing one in Edmonton If there's enough interest.
This would be for guys in Edmonton and the surrounding area that are looking to expand their social circle and hang with some new people, grab a beer and shoot the shit in a low pressure environment.
This started as a bit of an experiment to see if guys were open to making new guy friends and has taken on a bit of a life of its own with each one bringing out anywhere between 18-25 guys and continuing to grow month over month.
I found guys tend to get into different life stages from their immediate friend groups and the interactions can become infrequent and there weren't really any channels to make guy friends.
So if this sounds of interest, please don't hesitate to leave a comment below and if there's enough, I'll get in touch with a Edmonton bar and get something going!
While I live in Vancouver, I won't be there but from the response I've received it seems guys are lacking for this type of thing in society.
Cheers!
