Leaning on Parked Cars

Why do some people think it is perfectly okay to lean on cars which do not belong to them? 😂 Have seen it a couple of places in Dubai now. One guy was using the bonnet of my car as a coffee table in the morning. I don’t own a super car or anything fancy but it annoys me a lot 😂I sat on the bonnet of a car in Europe back in the day when I was a rowdy teenager and the owner came out and was ready to slap me for it. Didn’t do it since then.

as a girl, i felt the most comfortable in dubai

ive been travelling since i was literally 3 months old, and i've been to a lot of countries and a lot of cities all over the world. i'm a woman, well, a girl, bc im a minor. somewhere i didn't feel safe at all, no matter what i was wearing, what time it was etc. somewhere i felt okay, but still walking alone didn't feel safe enough. i was in dubai two times, and the last ive been there, it was may 2026, not only i really enjoyed this short trip, but i also understood that dubai is fr the most comfortable place for me. i'm pretty sure that a lot of women would agree with me. i remember walking late at night from the restaurant to the hotel i've been staying at, wearing a tiny dress or smth like that, and feeling completely safe and at peace. i could wear whatever i want, walk wherever i want at any time of the day. of course, i don't the the city at all, since i visited it only two times, but let's say that i knew how to get from the beach from our hotel lol.

even in my home country, even in my hometown, i don't feel safe, especially in the summer, when i have to wear revealing / short clothes in case i don't want to fckn die from the heat lol.

it's incredibly important for me to be sure that i can wear whatever i want when i visit another place.

i miss dubai already, i had such a great time there!!!❤️

Dubai road design

Is it standard in Dubai that road design has to be bad and dangerous? I've seen so much crappy road design here. Why is that? Is it just incompetence or is it on purpose? Anyone?

🏠 Housing & Real Estate moved into apartment on the palm but humidity is at 75%?

• Upvotes

from some google searching this seems way too high and leads to mold issues, landlord was randomly asking me if i want her to paint the apartment prior to moving in too which i found weird, and also mentioned a water leak in the maid room which occured. its annoying too as im paying 280k aed per month which is a lot and i shouldn't have to deal with these kind of problems, literally just moved in today after paying half a years rent and just noticed this.. is there anything I can do or am I screwed. im really concerned about my health so this sucks.

Terminated suddenly by an admin worker on unheaded paper without my boss knowing—already filed a JAFZA dispute, what should I expect?

I’m in a really stressful situation and honestly just need some outside perspective on whether I’m losing my mind or if this is as crazy as it feels. Today I was handed a sudden termination letter telling me it was my last day, but the weird part is that the letter wasn’t even on official company letterhead and it was given to me by an admin worker who has been trying to pressure me to resign for months, not an actual HR person or my manager. My boss has always treated me incredibly well and we’ve had a great relationship, so I am almost positive he has absolutely no clue this admin employee is doing this behind his back. The excuse they wrote down was that I created a personal Gmail account that partially used the company name, but there was never any real investigation or a chance for me to explain my side, and they completely ignored my standard 14-day notice period. I’ve already officially registered a formal labor dispute with the freezone authorities to protect my legal rights, but I’m just sitting here wondering if anyone else has ever dealt with an administrative worker power-tripping and trying to fire someone completely unauthorized without the business owner knowing, and how it actually played out once management finally caught on.

Dubai tall girlies.. where do we buy long pants from?

If you’re 174 and above, where do you shop for pants?

No Zara for obvious reasons. And no generic shops who don’t feature a “tall” section.

And no teenage stores please. Something appropriate for women in their 30s.

I just don’t know where to ship from. I once got some things from PLT and once from ASOS and once from Aritzia they charged me a lot of money for import duties. I dunno what I’m doing wrong.

And while you’re at it.. where do we find tall guys lol.. but the pants are more important for now.

Thanks!

Expired Dubai license (8 years), now living in Europe. Can I still renew it? And what's the easiest visa route?

Hi all,

I'm hoping this community can help me sanity-check something before I plan my trip to the UAE

My situation:

I lived in Dubai previously and have since moved to Europe

My UAE driving license expired about 8 years ago

I plan to come back to the UAE to renew my license rather than start from scratch

Question 1: License renewal

A friend told me a UAE license can be renewed even if it's been expired for up to 10 years. Is this accurate? Specifically:

Is there a cutoff after which I'd have to retake the full driving course and tests?

Has anyone here renewed after a long gap recently, and what did the process look like (eye test, fines check, documents)?

Question 2: Visa

I know I'll need a valid residence visa and Emirates ID before I can apply. As a businessperson, what's the easiest self-sponsored route? I'm considering:

Freezone company setup (which freezones are quickest and cheapest for a non-resident to set up remotely?)

Question 3: Fines and blocks

Could there be old fines, a traffic file block, or an expired-ID issue that I should clear first? Is there a way to check this from abroad?

Any recent first-hand experiences, or a pointer to the right official channels (RTA, ICP, GDRFA), would be hugely appreciated.

Thank you!

What is behaviour, S?

Post image
13 Upvotes

So i decided to boom home cleaning service from S because they kept on tempting me with a 20 dirham voucher.
So i was hoping to get 59 dhs bill or max 60 on the 79 dhs bill after using voucher- but they pulled an Uno reverse by applying Additional charges (of god knows what) equivalent to voucher amount?

what's the point of giving these vouchers.

Dubai Rental Early Termination – Landlord Refusing NOC to Remove Furniture Unless Penalty Is Paid First. Is This Legal?

Hi everyone, looking for some advice regarding early termination of our rental contract in Dubai.

We need to downsize, so we informed our landlord 3 months in advance, as required. They agreed to the early termination but advised that we need to pay a 2-month rental penalty, which we accepted since it's stated in our contract.

We're planning to move out at the end of this month, but I need to start selling some furniture beforehand because not everything will fit in our new apartment.

The problem is that the landlord is now refusing to issue an NOC to allow the furniture to leave the building unless we pay the full penalty first.

Our contract specifies the 2-month penalty but doesn't mention when it needs to be paid.

I've clearly explained that we're not moving out yet, just selling some furniture in preparation for the move.

They also still hold all our remaining rental cheques plus our security deposit, but they're saying these are worth nothing as security.

At the moment, I don't have the full amount to pay the penalty upfront. Selling the furniture would actually help me raise the funds to settle it.

My questions are:

  1. Can the landlord legally refuse an NOC for removing my own furniture because the early termination penalty hasn't been paid?
  2. If the contract doesn't specify when the penalty is due, can they demand payment before the actual move-out date?
  3. Has anyone experienced something similar, and how did you resolve it?

I'm not refusing to pay the penalty. I've already agreed to it. I just need to sell my furniture before moving out and settle the penalty as part of the termination process.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Bangladesh work visa

Hey everyone, hope you’re all doing well.

I’m in a bit of a confusing situation and not sure what to do. Currently, my visa is under my uncle’s company, and I’m looking for a job.

My concern is that if I pass an interview and the company wants to hire me, they might not be able to apply for a new work visa because, as far as I know, new visas for certain nationalities, including Bangladeshis, are currently not being approved.

So, I wanted to ask if it’s possible to keep my current visa under my uncle’s company and only get a labour card through the new company instead.

Has anyone been through a similar situation or knows how this works? I’d really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

🔥 Rants & Complaints Extreme Jaywalking

So moving on from my truck story 🚚 and the falling pipes...

...again we're back as usual on the Yalayis again this morning after dropping off the kids to school.

There is a sort of concrete divider along the road coming out of DIP -> DAMAC Hills intersection (Northwards / Al Hebiah direction), as there has been roadworks going on for a while.

So this is clearly highway territory where we're all @ 80km/h+ cruising forward...and lo and behold, a gentelmen with full conviction and intent is climbing over the block with one leg, looking extremely prepped and ready to make a jump for it....literally in front of me!!!

I honked, flashed, lowered my window waved my hand and screamed at the top of my lungs. And he stopped in his tracks and stepped down behind the concrete block.

As I checked in my rear-view mirror it seemed he reconsidered his choice. And stayed back.

I mean....seriously are we still doing this? Involuntary Manslaughter was never on my bucket list FFS.

/ end rant.

Marasi drive & Al asayel st supercar nuisance !!!!

These f*cking supercars in Downtown and Business Bay are getting out of hand. Nonstop revving and racing on Al Asayel Street and Marasi Drive like it’s F1.
It’s happening constantly, especially late at night. Please report it to the police if you’re dealing with this too. Hopefully, enough complaints will push for action and proper speed cameras before someone gets hurt.

Indian expats in UAE – Divorce options when spouse refuses to cooperate + affordable lawyer recommendations

Hi everyone,

I’m an Indian national living in the UAE, married to an Indian national in India based on Hindu traditions. I’m exploring divorce options, but my husband is unwilling to cooperate.

I’d appreciate advice from anyone who has been through a similar situation.

Has anyone successfully obtained a unilateral divorce in the UAE without their spouse’s consent, despite being Indian nationals married in India?

Are there other options, such as filing for contested divorce in India while living in the UAE?

Would a UAE divorce decree be recognised in India, or would separate proceedings be required?

Can anyone recommend a reliable, reasonably priced lawyer who handles UAE–India divorce cases?

If you’ve been through this, could you share the approximate legal costs, timeline and your experience?

I’m looking for practical advice and genuine experiences, particularly from people who have successfully completed the process.

Thank you for your help.

Need advise - car issue

Post image
3 Upvotes

I discovered a dent, scratches on my car and red car paint. This could have been over the last 2 days as I only noticed this today. Looks like someone has hit the car and gone away without bothering you leave their information or calling the cops. I saw a red car in the parking lot that has dents and scratches on the car and I'm pretty sure it's THE car. But I have no proof and there are no cameras in the parking area.

What should I do?

If I call the cops - will they check with the driver? Else, I will end up paying for the paperwork, insurance excess etc.

🌇 Community Insensitive to goodbyes

I have grown up in Dubai. I am in my mid 40s and I have come to realization that I am so used to people walking in an out of life and it doesn’t affect me at all anymore. Have blessed life, work is great, I have lot of time on my hand, but I just feel this coldness now, it doesn’t affect when any friend or family is moving away, I am not sure if this is due to the transit nature of living in this region or is it even that we are just too busy with social media, YouTubes and too many distractions that it doesn’t hit you anymore. Very often I miss the past a lot but last 10-15 years have just been a blur!

Anyone else feels this way? Would be great to know what others who have lived here long enough thinks about this.

Question about Visa Cancellation for Domestic/Nanny Employee?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to check if anyone knows how to handle the below situation and if any advice can be provided.

Our nanny of 4 years has decided to leave us. She has mentioned that rather then going back home, she would like to stay in Dubai and look for a new job.

I want to make sure I do everything correctly. Can anyone clarify a few things below:

  1. Is she allowed to just stay and look for a new role whilst her visa is cancelled?
  2. How is her end of service gratuity calculated given that her basic salary increased from 2022-2026
  3. If I cancel her visa and she uses the grace period to look for new employment, am I liable for any overstay fines? And do I still have to buy her a flight home if she is choosing to stay in the UAE?

Just want to make sure I dont miss out on anything that can incur any unneccessary fines.

Thank you.

🌟 Fun Is wearing boots in Dubai a bad idea?

I’ve been eyeing these lovely Pavers boots for women, but they have a warm lining inside. Is it unthinkable to wear something like that here? Or do women make such boots work?

Please advise before I buy and regret.
