Update Release 0.15.0: API Updates & Expanded Mode Improvements

Release Date: October 19, 2026

Breaking Changes in Devvit 0.15.0

This release includes two breaking changes and a reminder about deprecated functionality. Review the following updates before upgrading.

Breaking Changes

  • devvit.yaml support removed: Devvit no longer supports devvit.yaml. Migrate to devvit.json before upgrading to 0.15.0.
  • reddit.getWikiPage() signature updated: The reddit.getWikiPage(subredditName, page, revisionId) signature has been removed. Use reddit.getWikiPage(subredditName, page, options) instead.

Deprecated Functionality

This is your reminder that blocks property in devvit.json and the u/devvit/public-api package remain supported but deprecated. We recommend migrating to u/devvit/web when possible.

Other Improvements

  • Custom expanded mode titles: You can now specify a custom title when calling requestExpandedMode(), giving you more control over how your app appears in expanded mode.
  • Expanded mode navigation: You can now call requestExpandedMode() while already in expanded mode, enabling more flexible navigation within your app.

Check out the changelog here: https://developers.reddit.com/docs/changelog#release-0150-api-updates--expanded-mode-improvements

Announcement Devvit Blocks Deprecation - Phase 2

Post image
28 Upvotes

Devvit Team: What about Blocks deprecation?
App Developers: We’ve already had it.
Devvit Team: We’ve had one, yes. But what about second Blocks deprecation?
Devvit Team Members stare at each other.
Devvit Team: I don’t think they know about second Blocks deprecation.

If you missed the previous communications on Blocks deprecation (Announcement • Update), the gist is that an older architecture of how we configure and render Devvit apps is going away. Instead, Devvit Web is the final frontier! 🖖

We’ll be completing the deprecation of Blocks in the Devvit 0.15.0 release by removing remaining blocks-based app configs. As most apps using the Blocks renderer have now migrated to Devvit Web, we hope the forthcoming changes will have a minimal impact.

Deprecation Phase 1: No More Blocks Rendering (Completed June 30th):

  • Deprecated and rejecting all new or updated apps using addCustomPostType for post rendering

Deprecation Phase 2: No More Blocks Configuration (Monday, October, 19th):

  • All apps using devvit.yaml need to fully move to devvit.json
  • Reminder: The blocks property of devvit.json is deprecated

Apps that do not upgrade to the new version of Devvit will not be disrupted due to these changes. However, anyone who has not migrated their apps to Devvit Web should do so to continue development of their app.

You can find our migration guide here, along with more resources in the full Devvit docs. If you have questions, reach out in r/Devvit, join our official Discord, or leave a comment here and we’ll do our best to help!

Thanks for your attention, may Devvit Web protect you, and be ever in your favor.

Help Fetch domain request rejected for my app "actingindia": how can I get it approved?

Hi Devvit team,

My app actingindia (developers.reddit.com/apps/actingindia) had both of its HTTP fetch domain requests rejected, and the portal doesn't show a reason:

- two *.supabase.co project subdomains (a small Supabase Edge Function that serves the feed): one for production and one for staging/playtest. Happy to share the exact hosts by DM or modmail.

What the app does: it's a moderator tool for r/ActingIndia. Every few hours it posts one curated casting call for actors in India (title, roles, dates, how to apply through the original source, and a "never pay to audition" safety line), with an image card. The domains host a small read-only feed that the app pulls those posts from, and the app reports back which items it posted so nothing is posted twice. It sends no Reddit user data anywhere. Terms and privacy are linked on the app page.

Questions:

  1. Why were these domains rejected?

  2. Would a dedicated custom domain (with its own site, terms and privacy) be approved instead?

  3. Or is External Endpoints (push into the app) the recommended route for this use case? If so, how do I request access?

Happy to change the setup to whatever fits the policy. Thanks!

Bug The "Download CSV" button on the "App Versions" sub-page is broken and it makes me sad

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've been having problems with installs being stuck on older versions - about 400 of the 3600 installs of Subscriber Goal couldn't even be force-updated.

At first I thought this was because the u/app-user account was missing, but the missing subreddits when you pull the Moderated Subreddits list using the API hides Private subreddits.

I don't know what this CSV file has, but if it includes the installed subreddits and their versions, I can probably troubleshoot the problem.

I lack data. Alan is a data analyst. Feed Me, Seymour.

Feedback Request Looking for alpha/beta testers for Amber Delve

Hi all,

I'm looking for a few people to try the beta of **Amber Delve**, a small roguelite that runs right inside Reddit, nothing to install. No showcase video for now, just a few pictures.

What it is?

You're a fox delving into the roots of a giant tree, where amber holds creatures from long ago.

- Hunt beasts in turn-based fights on a hex board

- Crack the amber they leave behind

- Feed it to your living armor and weapon, which grow and evolve into new forms

- Short runs, a daily hunt that's the same for everyone, and a deeper hunt every week, each with its own leaderboard

A bit of honesty:

its about 80% vibe coded - maybe less, maybe more. Some graphics are done with pixellab (mainly backgrounds and some symbols)

I'm a programmer, and this game isn't a new idea. It has been around for a long time, but I never managed to finish it, so I decided to rework it for Reddit.

A lot of the code is vibe coded, but not all of it. The graphics may not be final either, since some of them are older.

It's a beta (or alpha). Expect bugs, balance that's off, and things that don't quite make sense yet. I update it often, sometimes several times a day.

Still, I want to keep taking it further, and maybe a few of you will like it.

What I'd love from you:

Play a few runs and tell me what's fun, what's confusing and what's broken. There's a feedback post in the beta sub, and you can also post with the Bug or Idea flair.

Good to know:

- The alpha/beta is small and private.

- Your progress stays in the beta. It won't carry over to the public release and may be reset along the way.

Want in?

Comment below or send me a message, and I'll add you to the subreddit.

Thanks for reading!

Discussion Reddit's new Games tab is hurting smaller games

Thumbnail

Over the past week, we've noticed a significant drop in our games's growth and engagement. Another developer pointed out that Reddit recently shifted game discovery from r/GamesOnReddit to the new Games tab, and this change seems to explain what we're seeing.

While the new system an improvement on paper for discovering games, I think it creates serious problems for newer developers.

1.Newer games now have to compete with EVERYTHING:
Previously, r/GamesOnReddit gave smaller games a dedicated space to get discovered.
Bigger games, will get carries by feed recommendation and featuring, and small ones can build up themself here. It was a small friendly competition.

But now You're competing against every game on Reddit.

The Alignment Chart that's already everywhere? The games that are already massively popular? Games designed specifically for large, established subreddits? They're all competing for the same attention.

Sure, smaller games are technically still discoverable. You just have to click the "Discover by category" button and scroll all the way down. But realistically, how many users are going to do that?

The result is that games that already have visibility get even more exposure, while smaller projects become practically invisible.

  1. Developers have lost both control and valuable analytics
With r/GamesOnReddit, we had some control over how and when we promoted our games.

Released a new feature? Someone made a cool community puzzle? Had a meaningful update worth sharing? Great, we could make a new post about it. It was measurable (the amount of views and upvotes), it was meaningful.

Now, we have no clear control over what gets showed in the Games tab, when it appears, or how well it's performing.

We've essentially lost both a discovery channel and a feedback mechanism.

I'm attaching three screenshots showing the decline we've experienced:
- App ready count: The number of times an instance of our puzzle was loaded.
- Daily engaged users: How many users actively engaged with our game each day.
- Unique subreddit visitors: The number of unique visitors to our game's own subreddit.

All three metrics show a sharp decline around the time of this change.

Of course, correlation doesn't automatically prove causation. But the timing, combined with the loss of our previous discovery channel, makes this change a very likely contributor.

Feedback Request Mystery Player: a daily guess-the-player game for team subs, looking for feedback

I built a daily guessing game meant to be installed in sports team subs, and I'd like a few people to break it before I show it to any mods.

Every day the app posts one mystery player from the team. You get 8 guesses, and each one shows 6 clues: position, height, age, jersey number, country, year joined. Blue means exact, orange means close (within 2 for numbers), arrows say higher or lower.

The app does the rest by itself: posts the puzzle at the hour the mods pick and pins it, keeps a daily board (fewest guesses, then fastest) and streaks, and a "Comment my result" button posts a spoiler-free grid. The answer stays on the server until you finish.

Knicks edition here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MysteryPlayer (124 players since 2015). The app also ships Man United, with 129.

What I'd love to know:

  1. Did the clues click without the how-to?
  2. Is 8 guesses too many or too few?
  3. Anything broken on mobile?

Devvit Web + React. Each team is a roster file shipped with the app, so there's no external fetch.

Help Can't join the Developer Funds Program despite meeting all the requirements

Hi Devvit team - I've been unable to complete the sign-up flow up as a game developer to build and ship new games here on Reddit. I've just been getting auto-rejected even thought I meet all the eligibility criteria for the program.

I've reached out to support (no responses), exchanged DM's with the team here on r/devvit who said they'd help but did not receive support there either. This issue has been open for me for 6+ months now.

Who can I reach out to to resolve this? :(

Feature Request Concerning the creation of interactive games

Hello Devvit Review and Support Team

I would like to inquire about a few matters regarding publishing my interactive game on the platform.

I am keen to provide an enjoyable experience and have the following conditions that I would like to verify can be applied:

  • Complete privacy and no sharing of any personal information: I do not wish to provide any personal information or reveal my identity to any party, and in return, I will not receive any financial compensation for it.

Does the system and terms in Devvit allow publishing the app or game with these criteria (without disclosing any personal data)? And what are the required procedures from me in this case?

Thank you very much for your time and cooperation

I want to run an app on a subreddit with more than 200 users. Reddit says I have to publish the app. Does that mean anybody else can also install it on their subreddit? Are there any ways to restrict that?

Feedback Request I built a one-tap ban + purge mod tool and would like feedback from other mod-tool devs

I moderate a couple of political subs, and cleaning up after one harasser took forever. Ban them, open their profile, remove their comments one at a time, then remember to mute them in modmail. So I built Ban & Purge.

On any post or comment, open the three-dot menu and tap "Ban + purge user". Pick a reason from your sub's rules and hit Purge. It bans them (permanent by default), removes their posts and comments in your community, leaves a reply under each one saying why, and mutes them in modmail. A second menu item has the extras: ban length, a private message to the user, only the last N days, or lock instead of remove.

It works on desktop and in the iPhone app. It's in the app directory: https://developers.reddit.com/apps/ebt-mute-on-ban

A few things I ran into, in case they save someone an afternoon:

  • A removed or filtered comment comes back from getCommentById with the author as [deleted]. I look the author up in the mod queue instead.
  • Reddit mutes lapse after about 3 days and the API has no duration option, so the app renews the mute every couple of days while the user is still banned.
  • The form stays open until your handler returns. Doing the ban and the removals in a scheduler job makes it close right away.

I built an undo and then pulled it, because it could only reverse purges done after I started tracking them. Would you want it back? And is there anything you'd change about the flow?

Help Domain request rejected with no reason shown

Hi! Just to get this to your attention that my Devvit app pretzelflick (v0.0.3) requested a fetch domain, graphql.anilist.co, which is a read-only public API for anime airing schedules. The request shows Rejected in Developer Settings with no reason. The app is a mod tool that posts anime episode discussion threads when each episode airs. I’ve added the Terms and Privacy Policy links, documented the domain in the README, and re-uploaded. Could someone tell me why it was rejected, or what I should change to get it approved? The code is public at https://github.com/F8rox/ProjectPretzelFlick
Terms: https://github.com/F8rox/ProjectPretzelFlick/blob/main/legal/terms-and-conditions.md

Duck Answered ModMail archiveConversation() API Example question

In the API docs for archiveConversation() there is an example:

await reddit.modMail.archive('abcdef');

Is that correct or should it be:

await reddit.modMail.archiveConversation(ConversationID);

or possibly it should be something else completely?

My app is supposed to be archiving the ModMails it sends but it is not working correctly.

Feedback Request Feedback: does Poudreuse explain its optional recorded daily ghosts clearly enough?

I’m the creator of Poudreuse, a small Devvit skiing game developed with substantial Codex assistance. I define the game, try the builds and direct the iterations.

Playable post: https://www.reddit.com/r/PoudreuseSki/comments/1x1hk83/

The currently public version includes optional recorded ghosts for the shared daily course. Players choose whether to share their best run. Opponents are recordings, not live players, and the course changes at midnight in Paris. The server replays inputs before accepting a score.

I’d like feedback on the first-run explanation: is it obvious what is being shared, and can you tell that the other skier is a replay? If nobody has shared a run on today’s course, the game says there is no ghost available.

The interface is in French. “Défi du jour” is Daily challenge. The game is free; shared scores need a Reddit account. Please mention your device if the entry flow or controls get in the way.

Help Help needed

Hi, I'm looking for guidance on the correct way to request API access for an existing external website.

I run CarrierBoard, a community website for Elite Dangerous fleet carrier trading. I'd like to display public trade adverts from r/ EliteCarriers, specifically posts with the “Buy Order - Open” and “Sell Order - Open” flairs.

The site runs on Cloudflare Workers. I only need to read public post details, link back to Reddit, and identify completed or expired adverts. I don't need to post, vote, message users, or moderate Reddit.

The Data API access form seems aimed at Devvit apps or moderator tools, and I'm not sure which route applies to my use case.

Could someone point me towards the correct application or approval process?

Feedback Request Feed Relay: get your subreddit's new posts in Telegram or Slack (or Discord) after RSS ends on Nov 13. Feedback welcome

Hi all. With RSS feeds going away on November 13, mods who followed their sub through an RSS reader need something else, and the announcement only points to Discord. Not every mod team wants Discord, so I built Feed Relay: the same idea, with Telegram and Slack as first-class destinations. It can also give readers who followed your sub by RSS somewhere to go: a public Telegram channel with every new post.

What it does:

- relays new posts, new comments and/or popular posts (a score you choose within N hours) to up to 3 destinations, each one Telegram, Discord or Slack;

- waits a few minutes and checks the post is still up, so things AutoModerator or the mods remove never get relayed;

- when a post or comment is deleted on Reddit, it deletes the relayed message too (on Telegram, it blanks it after 48 hours, because bots can't delete older messages);

- filters by flair and title words, and can skip NSFW and spoiler posts;

- a "Send test message" button in the mod menu tells you which destinations work and why the others don't.

Setup for Telegram: make a bot with Telegram's BotFather, add it to your channel as an admin, and paste the token and the channel name into the app settings.

https://developers.reddit.com/apps/feed-relay

It's free. I'd really like to hear from mods who moderated through RSS and don't want Discord: what's missing?

Duck Answered ACCIDENTALLY REGISTERED FOR THE "APP LABEL"

I was trying to get reddit's human verification to work, but it kept glitching so I went with the other option of 'register as an app' ( thinking it was an alternative option to resolve the issue...which i was clearly wrong at) and registered my personal account as an app

well, turns out now my account has the APP LABEL next to my username, and I can't find a way to undo it

I don't build apps or run bot, duhh. I'm just a girl trying to use Reddit in peace

Is there any way to get this removed? (I've already submitted the request form) I saw a similar post here where the mod helped fastrack the process so I'd really appreciate it if a mod could point me in the right direction

Thanks!!

Feedback Request An all around, all-in-one moderation app (ModLookout)

Hi Everyone!

I've been building ModLookout, a moderation app for Reddit that was based off my moderation bot from the r/PokeLeaks subreddit which has over 150,000 members and tens of thousands of visitors during busy peak season. It was also created to fill in for me and my team when we were not around based on the issues that we faced during our time modding and fill in the gaps for desired functions that AutoModerator could not perform. I also found it very annoying to onboard a bunch of different bots, especially for detecting reposts.

I've rebuilt it. It's now in public testing for any moderators and subreddits to install. It may not be needed and be redundant for some subreddits but it worked for mine and I would hope it would help others as well. I would greatly appreciate any feedback and consider any requests for future functions.

What it does

**Removes reposted images.** New image posts are checked against earlier posts, including galleries, GIFs and WebP. Reposts are removed with a short comment linking to the original. Mirrored, bordered and cropped copies are caught too, and uncertain matches are reported instead of removed.

**Learns from your moderators.** Approving a removed post teaches it not to flag that pair again.

**Catches copy-paste spam.** Users posting the same text over and over are reported or removed.

**Submission Stream.** Optionally filter new posts into the mod queue. Original images are approved automatically and reposts are removed.

**Report handling.** Remove or approve posts and comments after a set number of reports per rule. Reddit's site-wide report reasons always stay for a moderator.

**Posting limits and strikes.** Limit posts per user, track removals, and get a modmail alert or ban at a number you choose.

**Comment review.** Restores comments AutoModerator removed by mistake, based on your team's past decisions.

**Moderator tools.** Image History, Ban This Image, User Info and Nuke Comment Thread on posts and comments.

**Event mode.** Limit which post flairs users can pick during busy periods.

How it's built

* Devvit Web (0.14.8) with a Hono server. Everything runs inside Devvit: no outside servers, and the only HTTP domain it uses is i.redd.it.

* Images (JPEG, PNG, GIF and WebP) are decoded in the app and turned into perceptual hashes. Mirrored, border-trimmed and center-cropped versions are checked too.

* Optional keypoint matching (ORB, with RANSAC geometric checks) catches heavy edits like one-sided crops, captions and screenshots. A visual-word index in Redis keeps the search fast across the whole database.

* Matching thresholds tune themselves from moderator approvals and removals.

* Old posts are indexed in the background in short scheduler jobs, so triggers never time out.

Setup

Install it, and repost removal and spam reporting start right away. Everything else is off until you turn it on. All settings are in one **ModLookout** item in your subreddit's mod menu, with a 30-day overview. No code or AutoModerator changes are needed.

Privacy

Everything is stored in Reddit's own app storage for your subreddit. Nothing is sent outside Reddit, and images are never saved, only small fingerprints of them.

Install: https://developers.reddit.com/apps/modlookout

Comment here or message me through the app page. I'd especially like to hear from other Devvit developers, busy subreddits and communities that deal with a lot of reposts.

Thanks for taking a look!
