This brings me back to the 80's in my gaff. "Ahhh give your Uncle Frank a hug...go wannn, give him a huggg!"....your Ma's pissed drunk, your Uncle Frank's pissed drunk, everyone's pissed drunk except you and the dog. You're ten, scared of the smokey booze smelling room, Uncle Frank who's staggering and groping for his hug ( vomm) and you're just expected to comply. Yes, consent as to whether or not you want a hug from Uncle Frank is a must, in fact being ordered to hug him is now a big no no. Thank fk.
My own daughter was told she doesn't have to hug anyone she doesn't want to due to those horrible memories I have, and completely unrelated to that, she's actually confided in me that she hates when one of her uncles hugs her (he does it far too tight) so I told her then don't do it next time, she's allowed to create her own boundaries. We know better now.
