What's neat about eggs is that they can withstand a huuuuge amount of pressure top to bottom, but side to side they're weak.

My uncle once proved this to us in a demonstration. He was incredibly strong and grabbed an egg in both his hands. He applied a lot of pressure. His face turned red and his arms started to tremble. As kids we were so impressed. But then his hands must have gotten a bit sweaty and the egg moved… and the egg exploded. We all got splattered but he got the majority. And then he started laughing. It was both ridiculous and impressive.

I stopped reading after realizing you were telling a story about your uncle “busting” all over your living room.

Edit: /s

It was a joke. Guess I should've added the /s for people like you.

Like a light bulb!

...and if you ever saw it (saw it), might you even say it glows?

Olive, the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names.

(Olive was a dick)

It's not even halloween yet!

I had the same exact thing pop into my head, so I appreciate that I'm not the only weird-ass person here.

There it is.

Doctor! 🤝

Yeah but if you put a lightbulb up your bottom it’s going to hurt a lot more than an egg would when it breaks.

Eggads!

Do you know this by experience?

I regret being literate.

Until a naked man shoves it up his ass and it breaks.

4

u/xzkandykane Sep 17 '26

Makes sense since a whole chicken sits on them

2

u/PM_ME_ANYTHING_DAMN Sep 17 '26

I assumed those were not load bearing eggs

4

u/Cute_Opposite4077 Sep 17 '26

Yeah, otherwise only Chick Norris could hatch.

2

u/Reload86 Sep 17 '26

The shape has a lot to do with this too

Like a balloon

Interestingly, this is also true about carbon fiber structures: they can withstand extreme forces from certain directions, whereas they can be quite fragile from others.

This is why light carbon bike frames are more structurally solid for regular use, but can crack easily when a bolt is overtightened, the bike is clamped by the top tube, or upon impact in accidents. And once they break, they are rarely repairable or worth repairing.

Wow that is neat! Hey is there a video demonstration of this anywhere, you think?

Nothing about the video indicates side to side strength ignoramus

2

u/Godfodder Sep 17 '26

Life experience should have all the necessary indicators for sides to side strength.

1

u/RegulationPissrat Sep 17 '26

You're thinking backward from a conclusion, not scientifically based on the post. You're projecting your life experience onto everyone else.

1

u/Godfodder Sep 18 '26

What is this pretentious nonsense? We’re taking about eggs cracking sideways.

1

u/nagihoko Sep 17 '26

I know your primary goal is just to be a smarmy asshole but I genuinely wanted to know what was going on with the video (is it fake? Is it a clustering thing?) so someone saying that the difference in an eggs compression strength is just that large depending on the axis is interesting.

1

u/DignityDWD Sep 17 '26

I don't know how my tone came off but I promise I'm not taking it very deep

2

u/Godfodder Sep 17 '26

I thought it was funny.

The internet sucks now.

1

u/BrokenDoveFlies Sep 17 '26

Since I'm not entirely sure if you're being sarcastic, here's another video explaining some of the science. If you were being sarcastic, surprise! I'm autistic here's the video anyways!

2

u/DignityDWD Sep 17 '26

I'm being sarcastic as fuck, sorry dude

1

u/RegulationPissrat Sep 17 '26

Appreciate seeing more science behind it. I feel you, I know how soul sucking it is when you get excited to talk about a topic you enjoy just to learn you're being fucked with.

1

u/Shiv_Roy Sep 18 '26

This is why I don’t really get it - you’d think it’s a biological protection mechanism but then the second the egg is slightly turned to one side it’s useless? lol

1

u/BrokenDoveFlies Sep 18 '26

Otherwise the chick couldn't hatch. When they hatch they actually peck very close to the center of the egg, the weakest point.

1

u/razzeldazle Sep 18 '26

I heard they can resist up to 200 pounds top to bottom

1

u/ZexelOnOCE Sep 17 '26

damn that's so crazy and nobody knows that, thank you so much for your inclusion

u/Roqwer Sep 17 '26

Cylinders are the strongest shape.
