r/DCcomics Have a question? Ask the veterans of DC Comics!

Let's face it, comics can be confusing. No matter how big or small your question may be this is the place to ask and r/DCcomics will do our best to answer it for you!
As the r/DCcomics community continues to grow we are receiving an influx questions from readers of DC comics, or simply new readers to comics entirely. As Stan Lee has said, every comic book is someone's first, and even though he maybe be one of those other guys it certainly applies here as well. With this spirit in mind, these Q'n'A topics are intended to give those who may be puzzled a centralized place to connect with other knowledgable readers and clear up some confusion.
A new Ask the Veterans thread is posted every Sunday, and in the future answers to these questions will be organized into this subreddit's wiki page.
To those answering
Avoid vague replies like "yes" or "no". Rather do your best to explain your answer, and if necessary provide a link that may help anyone interested in learning more. Remember to hide spoilers when discussing major events that have taken place within one year of its release..

Discussion To new readers: stop overthinking it

I started reading comics in May this year and I'm a huge Batman fan. After reading Year One, I went ahead and spent countless hours trying to build a perfect reading order for Batman and DC in general.
I can tell you right now: if you're trying to get into comics, spend the actual time reading comics
I've now been collecting all of DC, starting from Moore's classics to more niche runs that are well rated (like John's Aquaman or Dini's Zatanna) and I've had a lot more fun reading everything. It doesn't feel like a chore to read anymore. DC Finest is also a must collection to look for if DC in general interest you.
The only thing I do if I'm really in the mood is look up if a particular story absolutely needs previous material to be understood, and even then, 90% of the time it won't matter as much as you think it would.
So go out there, grab what you like, ask your local comic shop for their recommendations and enjoy your time!

Other [Other] I've only been reading comics for a year and a half and only recently have I been really locking in to try and read more comics. Thought I'd show who my most read comics characters are (or at least as many as I could fit into one screenshot).

Comics So… Green Lantern is getting a Warhammer inspired comic… awesome! [Cover]

So here’s the premise of Green Lantern: Doomed Cosmos: A fanatical Empire of Humanity has spent centuries conquering the galaxy, crushing alien civilizations beneath its boot. Only the militarized Green Lantern Corps stands against humanity's crusade, and their newest recruit is Hal Jordan, a former human soldier betrayed by his battle brother Oliver Queen.
So… this is basically the Green Lantern Corps fighting the DC Universe's version of the Imperium of Man from Warhammer 30,000, isn't it?! I mean, we've got a xenophobic human empire, religious fanaticism, galaxy spanning holy wars, and even battle brothers! That's practically the Great Crusade with a DC Comics coat of paint! And the backstory makes it even crazier. The Empire of Humanity apparently grew out of the Order of St. Dumas (which explains why everyone looks like Azrael), after they discovered a Mother Box in the 12th century and used New Genesis technology to launch their galactic conquest.
So basically, imagine the Imperium of Man founded by medieval religious zealots armed with New Gods technology, with Hal Jordan joining the alien resistance against humanity. This is such an absolutely unhinged, grimdark sci-fi fantasy premise that I feel like I should hate it, but honestly? I LOVE IT! It looks gloriously chaotic, ridiculously over the top, and incredibly fun. Whether it's brilliant or a complete train wreck, I'm absolutely here for it!
