It's all coins that are worthless. Don't interact with them or they will scam you out of your money.

32

u/osolovim 1d ago

what does that mean exactly? what are they trying to scam?

75

u/Toxicity 🟦 16 / 818 🦐 1d ago

When you Google the coin names they usually have scam websites set up that will drain your wallet.

44

u/osolovim 1d ago

ohhh. so they like mass setup a bot to target binace addresses and send them all like 2 cents as a way to advertise their token and try to get people curious?

Yes, that's the scam plan.

They drop coins in active wallets

1

u/Lv_InSaNe_vL 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 8h ago

How does that work? Wouldn't they need the private keys? Or is it like the old mail check fraud where you move them and then they try and "bounce" the transaction?

Its called a dust attack

I just converted these to BNB, is that a risky move?

1

u/osolovim 11h ago

oh goodness

u/HSuke 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 11h ago edited 10h ago

Super risky. You need to Google "spoofed token" and learn how they work.

Any ERC-20 or BSC-20 token can have a transfer function that takes more BNB. Unless you're a crypto expert and know how to manipulate the scam tokens, you should not be interacting with spam tokens and NFTs.

1

u/bearwithastick Tin 10h ago

Thanks for the clarification! I don't have a lot of BNB, like legit only a few dollars. It's basically just my "dust-bin". They should not be able to interact with my other currencies, since each of those are in their own "wallet" with their own address on the exchange. Is that assumption correct?Β

I've tried a quick Google search for "spoofed token" but I haven't found anything that mentions a similar scenario.

2

u/Toxicity 🟦 16 / 818 🦐 9h ago

You could have given them permission to spend your BNB in the future. Check out your wallet permissions.

1

u/HSuke 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 9h ago edited 9h ago

If you only have a tiny amount on it, then you're fine. You can only hurt the assets on the same account/address. Carry on.

The only other way you can get harmed is if you visit a sketchy website if you can't find any legit liquidity pools for that token, and then click on a bad link.

A spoofed token is just any token that loads their transfer function to do something besides simply transfer the token. I've written spoofed token ERC-20 spoofed smart contracts before for testing purposes. They can be very dangerous if you're not paying attention. For example, I can write a transfer function that steals your ETH/BNB instead. Fortunately, most modern wallets will flag that if detected.

To play devil's advocate 11$s could be a lot when in some places! In Indonesia the average monthly wage is like 1000$ iirc

9

u/osolovim 22h ago

lmfaoπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ im american and ive never even made $1000 in a month before except in the military. civilian work i cant find shit 26 btw

2

u/Tall-Objective1791 12h ago

Even fast food in most places starts around $15/hr... 15x40x52/12=2600/mo. Shit even minimum wage 7.25x40x52/12=1256...

u/osolovim 11h ago

yeah. if only jobs like that actually existed or were available.

1

u/Same_Tea_3364 11h ago

McDonald's? Any entry level position damn near, I dont know where youre located, but its almost impossible to make under a grand a month, how old are you? What are you applying to? How's your work ethic?

Edit* you can work at like walmart, any sort of custom service role look into getting into the trades, if you can get your certs tradesman are ALWAYS needed

2

u/osolovim 11h ago
  1. military combat vet. best work ethic humanly possible. tennessee georgia alabama tri state area. i am looking for anything that pays atleast $5 per hour. also mcdonalds wont hire me sadly ive applied 10 times and had 2 interviews. ghosted each time idk why

1

u/Same_Tea_3364 11h ago

Youre gonna have to start cold calling these places, show them you're actually interested in working with them, when you apply do you ever send a follow up email? Im sorry you cant find anything bro, maybe youre having a hard time cause youre only looking for 5$ an hour, can you honestly survive on 5$ an hour? Federal minimum wage is 7.25 an hour, are you applying for server roles? That and delivery drivers are the only thing I can think that pays that low, can I ask why just 5$? Im not very familiar with the Tennessee area as im in indiana and haven't been down south, with your vet experience apply for security guard roles, also thanks for your service sorry it's been tough, have you been in contact with your nearest VA? They might have some resources to help, do you have an unemployment office by you?

1

u/osolovim 11h ago

i ask only for $5 because i dont want to be greedy and ask for alot

→ More replies

1

u/osolovim 11h ago

but yes i got a social worker with the VA who helps me look for work. i currently live in a veterans group home

1

u/Same_Tea_3364 12h ago

Jeez youre in the wrong industry bro. I make close to 3500 a month, and I got pay stubs to back it too

1

u/osolovim 11h ago

i do whatever work i can find. my asking pay is $5 per hour. but there simply is no place who will hire me. ive been laid off from paycheck jobs since may. im staying afloat sitting in front of lowes and helping people

They are usually fake coins, and you have to go to a special website to withdraw your coins, and to do so, you have to link your wallet.

Linking your wallet is how they steal your money.

6

u/osolovim 22h ago

ah thank you lmfao. im not desprate to get 2 cents hahahahaha

-1

u/rEYAVjQD 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 21h ago

Linking your wallet is how they steal

That means the entire linking concept is extremely flawed, because the language does not mean "handle control" so it's extremely insecure.

The entire paradigm must be redesigned from the ground up to make that scam impossible.

You are not getting adoption from the average joe and susan otherwise.

Blockchains have 2 design choices with tradeoffs:

  1. Allow for native tokens with rigid design that can't easily be used to scam. (e.g. Algorand, Cardano)
  2. Allow for expressive tokens like ERC-20, ERC-721, ERC-1155 with flexible design, but can easily be used to scam others. (most EVM blockchains)

Most blockchains only offer one or the other. Some blockchains like Tron offer both choices.

2

u/rEYAVjQD 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 20h ago

The problem might be more 'social' than technological. Eg why are we even promoting the existence of "wallets that approve" to non-tech-savy people when BLATANT scamming and robbery can be supported by them?

At the very least the high level design of any software that reaches the final desktop or phone of the average joe should have mandatory two factor authentication that a simple approval can't pierce through.

1

u/HSuke 🟩 0 / 0 🦠 11h ago

Because some people want more features.

It's a tradeoff between more features and more security.

And a tradeoff between centralization and decentralization. When anyone can mint tokens, scammers are going to mint thousands of them daily.

Many newer wallets have security features where they flag spam tokens. But there are thousands of new tokens being minted daily since there's no central authority to approve of minting them. Not all of them are going to get caught by the software. And it's a burden to have to constantly analyze every new transaction for them.

That's the problem with crypto. A few scammers ruining it for the rest of users. And there's no central police to stop them.

No one is sending you free money. Sometimes they manipulate the stats to look like it’s β€˜worth’ $100+ USD but there’s no actual market or person willing to buy the worthless token, it’s meant to make you think you could financially gain something, research the scam website, and it’s always a scam. I usually ignore them or hide them in my wallet settings.

Many will try to get you to β€˜connect’ with your wallet, and then they drain your real crypto.

Nothing is ever free. Its a dusting attack, and when you approve the "free" token in your wallet the smart contract has evil functions that can unlock your wallet and scammers will steal everything. Just ignore them, or remove the symbol from your list so you dont have to look at it and get a false balance. But never approve trading in it.

-1

It’s a DUSTING attack. DO NOT INTERACT IN ANY WAY! Even to move or sell.

A dusting attack is a malicious contract with hidden functions.

If you even try to approve the contract to even move or sell the token, it can drain your wallet.

It's almost certainly an unsolicited airdrop, which scammers send to lots of wallets. The safest move is to leave it alone: don't swap or sell it, don't approve anything, and don't open any link or site tied to the token, since the usual trap is a fake "claim" or swap page that asks for a wallet approval and drains it. You can hide the token in your wallet. If you're curious, you can check what the contract can do before touching it, and Cymetica's Safe Launch Check reads a token's contract for powers like mint, pause and blacklist and shows live pool depth.

Dawg in this economy you have to be greedy, im not trying to be rude or anything, but youre not going to survive off of that, I make 18 an hour and am barley scrapping by off of that.. i know its hard to not be greedy, took me a while to learn thats bullshit, no ones going to give you a handout, or help you, you got to get to that shit, I know shits hard right now but determination and perseverance will pay off.
