Hey everyone,

I've seen several comments recently asking for the community to allow memes or gifs, and as we want to keep this sub a hub for information and opinion, we did not want to allow that. So, for those of you who are interested in a sub for cruise related humor, I have requested the r/Cruisecirclejerk subreddit that was closed around the height of Covid.

We welcome all who are looking for cruise humor. A fair warning, many of the rules that we have here, I have added to r/Cruisecirclejerk. Just because this will be a sub for jokes does not mean I will tolerate anyone's bigotry of any kind.

So, if you want to joke about the drink package, why there's no casino on Disney ships, should we get trip insurance and more, feel free to join us at r/Cruisecirclejerk! See ya there!

Rude, greedy baggage handlers @ NCL Miami

Gave the baggage handlers our luggage @ NCL terminal Miami and they basically demanded a tip. I usually tip anyway but not to rude demanding entitled people. Anybody else?

Repositioning cruise

Hi! I’m considering booking a repositioning cruise on carnival spirit from Seattle to Galveston next September. Obviously there’s a lot of sea days and of course the Panama Canal. If you’ve done a similar cruise from west coast to east coast in September, do you recommend it and if not why?

Has anyone stayed at the costa maya beach house through resort for a day? Weighing options between this and nacional beach club.

I really like the house but noticed it has no reviews through the resort for a day website, thanks

Is there a listing of theme cruises?

Hi all;

Is there a listing of theme cruises anywhere? For example, if there is a Sci-Fi themed cruise I would find that really compelling. Same for on with a lot of talks on recent history & current events.

TIA

Cruise for last week in Dec

Wanting to take my family (2 boys ages 4 and 2) on a cruise between Christmas and when school starts again on Jan. 4. Preferably out of Port Canaveral but could do Fort Lauderdale or Miami. My biggest priority is the quality of the ship and of course that it’s a good for kids. Any recommendations appreciated!

Ruined cruise? Rookie mistakes...

I think I messed up... We are set to sail end of November for 11 days on the Brilliant Lady (Virgin).

My Wife and I never cruised before so we know absolutely nothing about it. This is pretty much our first "real" vacation and I think I already ruined our trip due to my lack of research and planning.

Although I was absolutely aware weeks ago that pre-booking dinner/brunch and excursion reservations opened up I assumed I had time to figure all that out. I couldn't have been more wrong!

All the (better) dinning options and most of the excursions I think we would enjoy are completely booked! Although they say that you can check daily for (dining) cancelations I feel like I ruined our chances of truly enjoying this voyage especially considering there is no option to book the "sold out" excursions.

Is this trip "salvagable" at this point?

Again... 100% my fault for not being proactive but in my defense... I don't even know what to eat for dinner tonight much less months from now.

Any thoughts/suggestions greatly appreciated...

Carnival Venezia skipping Martineque visit due to "Security Concerns"

Currently aboard Carnival Venezia, which we have been told will no longer stop in Martinique due to "Security Concerns." I haven't seen any news reports supporting this. Is this just in response to the security situation in France?

Help me pick a cruise for my first time...

This is for myself and my boyfriend. We are both late 40s but very energetic and young at heart and active and like to stay busy. One thing we are looking for is water slides, nothing crazy just some. We are looking for some out of boat excursions, something that we can go see historical sites and maybe water sports or snorkel, also one where we can walk along a nice beach and water. We also love shows like comedy and other entertaining on board. We are planning on getting a balcony room. We would like to go in February for a 6 to 8 day cruise. We are willing to fly anywhere in the US to a port as I have plenty of miles.

To excursion or not

We are going on a cruise in April... The ports are Victoria, Vancouver, and Seattle. It seems like we can just take uber/lyft to go around (or there's even some shuttle or train or something to Capilano bridge). Has anyone skipped the excursions and used rideshare instead? My concern is that if most people are doing this, our total uber/lyft expenses may end up being close or even higher than if we just did the excursions, if we even get any, given the demand from other passengers.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Thanks!

Question How much to budget for excursions?

Hi all, we’ve just put down the deposit for a cruise on the Bolette to Norway. Excursions aren’t available to book yet, so I have no idea how much they’ll be. What kind of excursions/prices can we expect? We‘re the kind of people who want to save up in advance rather than winging it but I don’t know how much to set aside. Thanks.

Flight Options - Miami v Ft Lauderdale

We are looking into a Caribbean cruise next April, departing from Ft Lauderdale. We will be flying from Dublin and it seems that to get to Ft Lauderdale, we need to take two flights but I've discovered that Aer Lingus flies direct from Dublin - Miami. We would need to leave a couple days in advance, which would mean a day of sightseeing in the area.

Is it easy enough to get to Ft Lauderdale (preferably with public transport) from Miami? Would it be better to stay 2 nights in Miami and head to Ft Lauderdale the morning of the cruise or 2 nights in Ft Lauderdale? I believe there are hotels/motels that have shuttles to the cruise port - would this be the case for Miami or would we have to get to Ft Lauderdale first? Any recommendations for accommodation in either location, especially with a shuttle from the airport?

When we return, is there an easy way to get from the port at Ft Lauderdale to Miami Airport?

Is there much to see and do in Ft Lauderdale for a day? I'm not a beach person - I prefer museums/culture and the outdoors. Miami looks to have some nice areas to visit. Is public transport an option to get around?

TIA

Looking at a last minute cruise over holiday season and winter next year, and wanting to save some $$. Was using https://cruisewatch.com/ but the price jumped massively when I went to book (something about US taxes?) Any recommendations or tips on snagging a cabin for cheaper?

Not a seasoned cruiser here, so happy for any and all advice.

Photo Balcony is truly worth it .

I have slept in the interior room before, but this vacation i decided to book a balcony, yes it costs almost another $700 for each person, this is a 8 days 7 night Carribean cruise by RC , i remember when the last day about morning 5 am i went out to the balcony I saw the ship was slowly sailing into Tampa Bay and I saw all the city light along the river and i told myself if I was in an interior room i would have no idea the ship will be stopping any time and i have to get ready. I usually leave a little opening with my curtain in the room so i know if the morning has arrived because they changed the clock twice started from the sea day in day 2 , and I feel like this is my vacation i want to experience a vacation not just sleeping in a hotel room , if I am traveling on land and i really don't care what is the look outside of a hotel room, but in a cruise the balcony is an escape for yourself when you came back whatever from your dinner or events on the ship or excursion, i have walked out to the balcony to see the sea numerous times, i had nap on my lounge chair under the moon and relaxed under the breeze, I had my coffee after I had a shower and bathroom and waiting for the sun rise , many times when i get a little bored and I don't feel like social with other, i would lay down on my balcony to read a book or just resting. Most of the time i did it late at night like After 11pm or early morning. My friend suggested that I don't book a balcony because i have 4 port days and i planned for the excursion and it seems like that's not much use for the balcony, beside the first two day and the last sea day there are 3 days I am on the sea ,however even after a 9 hours excursion came back from hiking in the jungle and my watch told me i have walked 40000 steps almost 17 miles, and outside weather is like an oven , I just straight to the balcony lay down there , yes it was really warm and hot in Roatan island, but I was at the balcony using my binocular to look at the sea , if i spent the money i would use it , i am.a curious person, I like to see the nature, and looking at the sea with the sound of the wave, the white wave slapping on the ship body , the sun and the moon , it is a feeling that I am in a vacation, one day the ship ran into a rain and i saw lighting and then rainbow after that and one day a tiny song bird flew into my balcony and gave me a surprised since it was still two hours from the land . I know myself i am not the person who would go to dance or participate in the travia questions, I am not interested in buying jewelry and watches or diamonds on the ship, I am not an native English speaker so comedy isn't that funny to me cause i sometimes don't get it, i did swim a few times and used the fitness facility, but my best experience is my own alone on the balcony napping in a light breeze, if next time I go cruise, at least i will get an ocean view , because this is the vacation I like and balcony is truly worth it, it gives you another level of experience, for me at least.

Choosing a cruise: destinations vs ship

Hello cruises, I was wondering if you guys prefer to pick your cruises based on the destination or the ship themselves, or has that changed the more you cruise?
I ask only because I just booked my third ever cruise Norwegian Prima 1/3/2027-1/10/2027 southern carribean and it took me so long to pick. Took me hours of research and figuring out what I want for my next vacation. I had to pick within the first half of January, I wanted to visit new islands, as I’ve already been to the western, eastern and northern Carribean, I needed it to be within a price range because I’m not rich and I wanted a ship that will keep me busy during sea days and this one was the perfect balance. I’m bummed the ship doesn’t have more water activities or free amenities and the first half of the itinerary has islands I was at last time I cruised, but I’m excited to explore and relax nonetheless. I’ve already done western through carnival and eastern through Norwegian. I was hoping to do southern through Royal but I could not find the perfect royal cruise within my requirements.

How do you guys pick your sailings/ships? I’m curious as to your process of picking a cruise. I love the idea of having everything I need and want within the ship while also getting to see multiple beautiful places. Thank you in advanced for the advice and experiences!

Question What are your thoughts on the extra costs of cruising solo?

Good evening. I’ve been on a few cruises and always love that feeling of being out at sea, with a balcony to myself and the freedom to enjoy the journey at my own pace. But one thing I’ve never quite understood is why travelling alone often costs so much more. I seem to end up paying almost double for a cabin, even though it’s just me. Perhaps I’m looking in the wrong places, but surely there must be a better way for those of us who simply enjoy travelling alone, don’t you think?

Question NCL Joy VS MSC Seaside... What do you think for Solo Cruising?

Just found both these lines to have the most aggressive rates on Solo Cruising. Looks as though ships are practically the same size and age. Any recommendations? Also, how would you compare each or either if you have sailed Royal Caribbean before? thank you!

Disembarking Question

Hello! My wife and I are going on our first Royal Caribbean cruise at the end of this month. We are on Brilliance of the Seas and on our last day, we dock in Barcelona at 5am and the gangway is posted as being down at 6:45am. Our international flight home is from Terminal 1 in Barcelona’s airport at 10:30am. I talked to a Royal representative and they said we should be able to get off the ship no later than 7:30am and I know it’s a pretty short ride to the airport, but will we have enough time to make our flight? We plan to do self luggage off and we also have the Key Pass for priority disembarking. Thanks!

Repositioning cruise with big family

Hello everyone! My wife and myself have 5 kids aged 5-15. I'm in the middle of changing careers so I'm trying to be as frugal as possible.

I have never been on a cruise before so I'm a little rusty.

Do some rooms have connecting doors like they do in hotels? I can't even find rooms that accommodate 7 and rooms that will do 6 are way too much. What's the best way to save money here? I don't want the kids room a long ways away because kids aren't super smart in large groups.

Do all of the activities for kids on ship nickle and dime you a little (lot) at a time?

Do you really have to have reservations for all your meals? I seen on one website that an average meal is 60 on ship. Is this just for primo dining options? Isn't there some cheap cafeteria type dining?

Can you save money booking excursions separate of your ship so they aren't getting their cut?

Any random tips for me?
