My parents hand-me-down Smart tv died last week and I have started looking for something that won't sell my data. Ideally the display will be higher than 60hz but I understand that might be hard to find, 65" class, and backlit. Roast me if that's unreasonable for the price but I genuinely don't know where to look and compare. Thanks!

For those who install Draper screens all the time, is the 12V trigger a 2.5mm or a 3.5mm jack? I remember that one of the two is smaller, but Draper isn't consistent in which one they show as smaller in the diagram, and they don't call it out anywhere that I can find.

Got a bunch of old DTP HDMI receivers and the boss said keep them if they support 4K. Looking on the Extron website and Google there appears to only have ever been the DTP HDMI 4K 230 Rx - except none of the units I have are marked 4K and even the photos of the item on the Extron site doesn't have 4K marked on it.

I don't have enough kit to hand to be able to test if these support 4K - does anyone know? Has DTP always been able to support 4K?

I use old Qlab 4 for event screens, has been messy when I have to put fadeins and fadeouts for everything, takes a lot of time for just simple crossfades between videos and images. Usually I build the tech and prepare QLab at the same day. Right now doing a gala with 40 video/pic cues. Didn't have time to do the crossfades so I go to black with esc button and then launch the next cue with a cut.

I need a software that just launches videos/pics with a crossfade (and stops the previous cue after CF). Old QLab is too complicated for this. Any ideas?

I have just left my company and want to buy my own personal laptop as i have a 2017 mac which is just a pain in the arse to use.

What do you recommend? I am thinking of going for a refurbished Elitebook or Zbook as i dont mind HP and it would need to run fairly light stuff like VS code, Toolbox, construct, 1 million versions of q-sys designer etc etc nothing too heavy.

Any one have luck with the SDVoE systems? A co-worker suggested it, but I have only read some older reviews which were less than stellar. I am used to using NAV at this point on multiple 1G system. The SDVoE seems like it might have some heat issues being on a copper 10G switch and I worry about noise levels on a switch that can route that traffic as it will be in the room for an install. Just looking for general experiences and brands that have been decent if anyone has tried them out. Any information is appreciated.

I have a potential job opportunity in AV (audiovisual) coming up toward the end of the year, and I was advised to start studying through AVIXA. However, it looks like most of their courses cost money.

Are there any free alternatives or other resources you’d recommend for learning the basics and becoming more familiar with the AV industry? I’m interested in getting a head start and learning as much as I can before the opportunity comes around.

A project starts with displays, conference rooms and control systems, then somewhere along the way someone asks if the security cameras can be viewed on the same screens. Sounds simple until you get into network access, different camera systems and who actually owns the integration afterward.

For anyone doing commercial AV installations, do you typically handle camera integrations yourselves or leave that entirely to the security contractor? Interested in where people draw the line between AV and physical security.

This is my first time controlling an Extron device via SSH. The device uses port 22023, and the connection works fine in PuTTY. However, when I try to connect using the SSH Module Processor v1.8 in SIMPL, it fails to connect.
Has anyone used the SSH module in SIMPL to control an Extron device and successfully got it working? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Wondering if anyone has come across an easy universal IR remote control that doesn't need a bunch of programming to make it work with different devices? I often walk into rooms that have tv's and projectors and other IR controlled hardware and have to go hunting for their remote. Would be really nice to be able to punch in the make (and model as needed) onto a universal remote (or worst case an app) and instantly be able to control whatever that device is.

Basically just looking for something I can carry in my Pelican when I'm providing services in a room that'll let me quickly use IR devices without a bunch of programming or looking up codes or "learning" or whatever else is needed. Just a quick scroll through a list to that Samsung TV profile and away it goes.

Starting a new position at a Sub Contractor after around 5 years of Design experience on the consulting side. I have been putting off my CTS since I got into this career path but my new company wanted a commitment to obtaining the AVIXA certifications for bidding.

My plan states that I'll obtain my CTS within the first 4 months of starting and my CTS-D with 12 months. Did I bite off more then I can chew?

I just started studying for the CTS this week. I'm taking my time and using Quizlet to create Flash Cards sets for each section and Chapter. It's actually kind of fun as I really enjoy audio engineering and I'm finding I'm retaining information quite well this way. It helps that I also have quite a few years of experience in Audio Engineering and AV in general. My plan is to get it as soon as possible to show how committed I am. I told them 4 months but my plan is to get it within the first month of employment just to impress them.

I wrote the practice test yesterday and got 76% out of the needed 70% so feeling pretty good about that score even without studying or doing any other preparation for it. Most of the questions I got wrong were around the "AVIXA WAY" of doing things, and items more related to integration (which I know I'm lacking in) so it makes sense I didn't get a few of those right. All in all I feel confident about achieving the CTS fairly soon after I truly do some deep studying on the main topics.

Would love some feedback or advice on taking the tests and any challenges you have experienced. Especially for the CTS-D & later the ANP/CTS-I. Do the books cover most of what would be on the test? I currently have the CTS Exam Guide Third Edition which i'm running through right now to prepare for CTS. The CTS-D Exam Guide Second Edition came in last week and I also waiting for the Networked Audiovisual Systems by Brad Grimes to come in (i figured this would be good for taking the ANP). Anything else I should snag apart from the CTS-I 2nd edition exam guide?

I'm hearing mixed thoughts on what to study but because I'm on time line with my development plan I don't want to study anything that isn't worth looking at. It seems like the books are the obvious choice but just want to be sure.

We have a pair of A/V installer positions open at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, officially titled "Audio Visual Systems Technician." This is a full-time position, the pay is $30-$50 hourly, 40 hours a week, on-site in Laurel, MD.

I'll highlight that APL is a University Affiliated Research Center, which means we work with the Government doing Government things. As such, this position requires the ability to pass drug tests and obtain a security clearance, and weed is still tested for at this time so keep that in mind.

I work at a Board/card game store, and we are expanding, and im mounting a set of Tv's on the wall!

one will be (in theory) connected to a computer roughly 30 feet (our judge and retail station) and this tv will be display scoreboards, timers, and match info.

my second will be displaying a series of random videos that i have designed and edited that are general advertisements for products/events etc.

My question is, what is the best way to get these done?

My worry for the cable length for the first one is that it will be too far away (again im totally new at this)

My second worry is how to set up around 7 videos to play on a tv and not have the video player UI constantly show up!

We have an application where the client wants to mask (all) sounds from a restroom to the adjacent study area. Most surfaces are hard, ceilings are a mix of acoustical tiles and drywall. The restrooms do not have doors, just the maze style entrance. Has anyone had success with sound masking systems for this application? Systems architech here. Currently working on designing a large system with tons of AVoIP units. I have good experience with many brands and protocols, proprietary and not; SDVoE, Bluestream series, Visionary AV, IPMX, you name it.

One of the programmers came over saying "you should check out NDI". i havent touched it since i had a project crash because of it a few years back. He said the new Vizrt ownership was very positive and the development goes in the right direction. But reading the NDI documentation really doesent answer anything and theres few professionals in my circles who have any real hands on experience with large systems using NDI for both distribution and image composition.

Does anyone have some real experience to share thats not 4-5 years old, and includes some system size?

For reference, we have a great networking team and this will probably be running on M4350 series switches. I'm expecting this system to end up with +/- 100 endpoints. Theres Q-Sys for control.

Have a client with a 10k sqft warehouse space, small conference room, and a 1200sqft showroom space.

They'd like to have paging tied into their Unifi Talk system, as well as have basic background music throughout.

Debating between doing a TOA 900 series vs maybe a small AtlasIED system? I think a QSys or Symetrix system would be absolute overkill
