Country Based Post Flairs

Many questions can be country, or at least region specific. Regulations and experiences can vary widely.

Post Flairs have been available for a while now, but few members use them when submitting a post.

Let's try to work on that.

Advice BECU (WA State) froze my new account and flagged me for fraud, need advice

Timeline of Events:

  • Early Oct: Received a generic BECU mailer/promo for a new checking + savings account signup bonus. Submitted an online application
  • Oct 12: Account approved
  • Oct 15: Received account documentation via mail, configured the BECU mobile app and linked an external bank account to set up external transfers (initiated micro-deposit/account verification)
  • Oct 19: Initiated a $100 push transfer from external bank to BECU checking. Also reconfigured my employer's payroll direct deposit to point to the new BECU checking account
  • Oct 20: Received BECU debit card in mail. External account transfer link was fully validated and the initial $100 push landed in BECU checking. Initiated a $4,000 ACH pull from BECU pulling from external bank. I tried a $5,000 pull earlier that evening but it failed/was rejected and phone rep suggested the external bank denied it but to try again later
  • Oct 21 (Today):
    • The $4,000 ACH pull posted to BECU checking
    • Received a call from BECU Fraud Ops asking if I had been traveling recently or fell victim to a social engineering scheme. Fraud Ops placed a complete freeze on the account and directed me to visit a local branch to fix the issue. They also told me that they suspected I was working with someone else and to cease all online communications with other third parties about my account
    • Visited a BECU branch with drivers ID, debit card and the original promo mailer. Branch representative initially tried to set up a new replacement account and had no concerns up front (including transferring the SUB) but hit a system lock at the end requiring a call to Fraud Ops
    • Branch agent spent a while on the phone. I heard mention of "he's here on the pretense of using this signup bonus" along with a lot of "mmmhmms". I was told that my account setup history looked like an ongoing account scam running on social media (like Facebook groups), where someone (from Asia?) would front money for another person signing up for an account on their behalf and then split the signup bonus with the original money fronter. He then asked me multiple questions, including where I got the mailer, how I was signing up, and was I really, 100% not actually working with someone online on social media to setup my bank account (I showed them the mailer again)
    • He then told me he couldn't open my new account but assured me nobody would be able to take my money and that I might possibly get ACH access in 5 business days and should hear back from the fraud department in 10 business days but I may be expelled from BECU at that time

Where should I go from here? I've encountered issues in the past signing up for bank accounts where banks would not fulfill the terms of the signup bonus (and had to fight them via BBB and CFPB) but never had my account frozen and accused of being a fraudster. Is this something where I should submit a CFPB, NCUA, State AG, even BBB complaint immediately or should I wait a bit to hear back in two weeks? I can show a complete account history that all of the money I'm getting comes from my own bank account (and by extension, my W2) if that helps. My girlfriend also used the same SUB mailer (it was generic) and hasn't had any issues on her end.

Advice UK - Lloyds Bank - Trying to turn my weekly wages into monthly, need help setting it up.

• Upvotes

Hi, so I'm on weekly wages with work..

Bills are monthly..

So naturally I wanted to figure out a way to make my wages come through monthly so I could see how much I have left after bills and how much I go through a bit easier.

I have a basic account and a Savings Account. I'm transferring my weekly wage amount to my savings account on the day I get paid as a recurring transfer. However Lloyds Bank is not letting me set up a recurring transfer from Savings Account to standard account.

Is there a way? Maybe a different way? What's the simplest way...? I'd like to avoid making extra accounts etc if possible.

Advice How to get money back from uncashed Cashier's Check?

I mailed a cashier's check via Certified Mail for payment to a contractor. The check amount is for the invoice total, but he is claiming I owe him more. Therefore, he has not cashed the cashier's check, and it doesn't appear that he is going to. He has also not responded to my request to return it.

How do I get this money back into my account?

Advice Bank error

I transferred money through the Capitalone app to pull money from my other bank account into my Capitalone account like I have been doing for at least 10 years.

That was Oct. 5th.

The money was credited to my Capitalone account. But it’s still sitting in my other account too.

I called both banks and they said it looks fine on their ends. I begged them to please audit this. But they refuse. I told my other bank that I wanted this on my record and that I expect they are not going to make any surprise withdrawals on my account after this call.

WTF do I do now?

Advice REG CC Violation: Am I going to be fired?

Our BSA/Compliance Officer just finished her yearly review and found an instance where I violated Reg CC by not providing the client a hold notice explaining when their funds would be available. I'm honestly freaking out; I don't know how I could let this happen. Would this be considered a fireable offense?

US Is there a way to find out if my grandmother started an account in my name when I was a baby?

Hi! Not sure if this is the right sub to be asking but I could really use some advice

My mom told me that my grandmother started an account for me when I was a baby. She told me my college would be paid for my whole life. Her mother (my grandmother) died and We moved states when I was around 10.

When the time for college came my mom said she lost the bank information? Which to me sounds weird because if it’s in my name I should be able to access it.

Wondering if there is any way I can search to see if there’s an account out there in my name? Maybe a quick search database or something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Other Apathy is free money for banks

My bank advertised the same mortgage ackage at an interest rate 0.25% cheaper than what they charge me now. I called them to request a review.

CBA did the same a few years back. I asked for a better rate, they said no. Then, when I informed them that I will be changing the bank, they were surprised. When I changed banks, I got a cash-back deal.

The thing is, a small % reduction on a large loan translates to a big saving - especially over the life of the loan. Most banks will offer a better interest rate if you ask for it. If they don’t want to give it to you, then changing banks is really not that hard. Mortgage brokers are paid by the bank so no cost to you AND they can get you a better interest rate.

When we reward banks with our apathy, there is no incentive for them to correct us. It’s only in capitalism that decency is a strategic differentiator and a source of competitive advantage.

Storytime Big mistake today am i fired?

I feel so dumb and am so embarrassed it happened but I set off the alarm today after I failed to check the all clear signal before entering. I was running late saw my coworkers parked and thought it was ok because the back always gives us a heads up but it’s no excuse to be careless. I felt guilty the entire day and can’t stop thinking about it, but hopefully it’s a lesson learned to self. Definitely need to take shit seriously. Been here 1 year 2 months btw.

Advice ACH Paid But Not Received

I don't know what to do so any advice is appreciated! I had an insurance pay out due to a pet emergency (kitty is fine now!), but I never received it. After a month and a half going back and forth with the bank and insurance both are telling me there's nothing they can do and I never got the money.

Long story long:
I called and went to speak in person to the bank multiple times. No one at the bank was willing to take the ACH Trace ID. The last time I went in person, the bank representative called her superior to try to open a claim but was denied. Given they had no record of any attempt of the funds being deposited into my account, they were not willing to do anything further.

I then called the insurance with the bank representative, and the insurance representative explained that they tried to recover the funds but were denied.

The insurance had previously requested documentation with my routing number, bank number, and statement during the timeframe, I provided three documents (connecting my routing number with the bank number and then my statement) proving that I didn't receive the funds. Then the insurance began the process to recover the funds but were denied.

In the process of the explanation, the bank representative said that the insurance was contradicting themselves and that the third party used to pay out the funds and who had provided the ACH trace ID likely had not paid out the money. The insurance representative stated that they were recording the conversation and would share it with their finance team.

I called insurance and requested a callback. The insurance got back to me by stating that according to the third party payment, the funds were successfully deposited into my bank account on file, in late August. They previously attempted a reversal, but it was unsuccessful. As the transfer has been completed on their end, they are unable to take further action or issue a secondary payout for these funds.

I still don't have the money and I don't know what else to do? For reference, it is more than $6,800. Appreciate you reading through this! (Also I don't know how to track ACH trace IDs and everything I've found shows paying more for it)

US Sending an international wire to South Korea: does the sender's bank require the recipient's Korean national ID number (RRN)?

I'm the recipient here. My former landlord in LA is sending my security deposit refund (around $1,600) by international wire to my bank account in South Korea.

They've had my wire instructions (account number, SWIFT code, etc.) since July and told me twice they had everything they needed. Now, as they're initiating the wire, they're asking for my Korean Resident Registration Number (RRN).
Questions:
1. For wires to Korea, is the recipient's national ID a required field at most US banks?
2. Would a passport number usually be accepted instead?
3. If I have to share it, is a one-time view link a reasonable way to send it rather than plain email?

The request seems legitimate. I'm mainly trying to avoid sharing a permanent ID number if there's an alternative.

Thanks!

Advice What would a typical forex spread look like on an international wire transfer of 500k?

I sent about 400k GBP to my Bank in the US.

It looks like the receiving Bank took a 2% (10k) spread on the GBP/USD conversion vs the daily spot price.

I was given a rate of 1.30 $/GBP for Oct 13th. The daily rates look much closer 1.32

This seems quite a liberty.

Is this standard or abnormal?

Advice How do I escape being a teller?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for some advice from people who have successfully moved out of retail banking or have experience with finance careers on Long Island.

I have about 6 months of experience as a teller/personal banker at a credit union, a bachelor’s degree in General Studies with a concentration in Business Administration Essentials, and several years of customer service experience from previous jobs.

I’m realizing that traditional branch banking really isn’t for me. I don’t mind working in finance, learning new systems, handling transactions, or working with numbers and details, but the constant face-to-face customer service and having to be “on” all day is something I’d like to move away from.

Ideally, I’d like to stay in the financial field and transition into something more behind the scenes, with better long-term career growth and earning potential. I’m open to opportunities outside of banks, too, such as credit unions, hospitals, universities, or other companies where I could use my existing experience and degree.

Some areas I’ve been considering are:
Financial operations or back-office banking
Fraud, BSA/AML, or compliance
Loan operations or underwriting support
Financial analyst or reporting roles
Revenue cycle or financial operations positions at hospitals/universities.

I understand that I’m still relatively early in my career, and I don’t expect to jump straight into a high-paying analyst position without the necessary experience. I’m willing to learn new skills and work my way up, but I want to make a smart move rather than jump into another job I’ll want to leave in six months.

US 8 yo checking and saving for money management skills since Modak is shutting down. Chicago suburbs and smaller/regional banks preferred.

Modak is sadly shutting down. My 8yo had a bank account with them. There were no fees unless we did savings. My child was able to mark off chores to earn money on top of their weekly allowance.

I’m thinking of just switching to a straight up bank account for her. I don’t want my ex to be able to access it (he is 5 figures in child support arrears) and I would like my child to have a debit card and savings account.

We bank with Old National. Does anyone have recommendations?

TIA!!

Advice Why won’t Capital one give me my money back ????

I’m hoping someone who works in banking, especially check fraud or bank adjustments, can help me understand what’s happening.
I’ve used Capital One’s online Bill Pay service to pay my rent for years. Capital One mails a physical check to my landlord, and my previous payments have always arrived without any issues.
On July 6, 2026, Capital One issued my rent check.
On July 23, my landlord contacted me because he hadn’t received the check. At that point, we believed it had simply been lost in the mail. He asked me to stop the payment and have another check issued.
That same day, I contacted Capital One and requested that the check be stopped. They acknowledged my claim but subsequently denied it.
Four days later, on July 27, I was contacted by M&T Bank’s fraud department regarding an attempted deposit of my check. That’s when I learned that someone else had apparently gotten hold of it. I explained that the check was stolen and was informed that a hold had been placed.
On July 30, an M&T fraud investigator confirmed in writing that my check had been deposited through mobile banking into another person’s account.
M&T actually provided me with the account holder’s full name. The receiving bank identified the individual whose account was used.
My landlord also confirmed in writing that the check wasn’t deposited by them and that neither the endorsement nor the receiving account belonged to them.
On August 6, I followed up with M&T to ask whether the check had been reversed and the money returned to Capital One so it could be credited back to me. The investigator responded that a debit was pending that morning.
I never received confirmation that the money was returned.
In October, the same investigator provided additional findings. He confirmed that M&T had identified the check as stolen, restrained the receiving account, and created a suspense general ledger ticket on August 5.
He stated that funds designated for recovery were directed to a GL account associated with Capital One. However, he couldn’t confirm whether Capital One actually received the money and advised that Capital One’s claims or adjustments department would need to trace it.
Now here’s another part that makes absolutely no sense to me.
Capital One initially issued a temporary credit while investigating my dispute.
Then, on September 18, I received an email with the subject line “Good news—your dispute has been resolved.” I received another email with the same message on September 25.
Naturally, seeing those emails made me hopeful that the situation had finally been resolved. However, instead of confirming that my money would be permanently returned, Capital One attached copies of the original check as proof of payment.
Then, on October 2, Capital One sent another denial, stating that the payment had been processed according to my Bill Pay instructions. They also notified me that my temporary credit would be removed.
How do you send someone emails saying their dispute has been resolved, only to follow up with another denial and take back the temporary credit?
And there’s another inconsistency.
Capital One’s October 2 denial lists September 18, 2026, as the transaction date.
But the check was issued on July 6 and deposited on July 27. September 18 happens to be the same date Capital One sent its first email saying my dispute was resolved.
Why would the date of that correspondence appear as the payment date in the denial?
I’ve asked Capital One to explain this discrepancy, but I haven’t received a satisfactory explanation.
Despite receiving my landlord’s written confirmation and the fraud investigator’s findings, Capital One continues sending me copies of the check as proof of payment.
But I’m not disputing that I authorized the payment. I’m disputing that someone else deposited the check intended for my landlord.
I’ve filed complaints with the CFPB and OCC because I don’t know what else to do.
I’m hoping someone can answer a few questions:
If I requested a stop payment on July 23 because we believed the check was lost in the mail, what should Capital One have done before the July 27 deposit?
If M&T identified the check as stolen and provided the receiving account holder’s identity, why is Capital One still denying my claim?
Who is responsible for investigating an unauthorized endorsement involving a mailed Bill Pay check?
If M&T initiated recovery through a suspense GL account, how can I determine whether the funds actually reached Capital One?
Why would Capital One list September 18 as the transaction date when its own records identify July 6 as the payment date?
Is it normal for a bank to send multiple emails stating that a dispute has been resolved and then issue another denial and reverse the temporary credit?
It’s been nearly three months, and I feel like I’ve been doing most of the investigating myself.
I reported the missing check and requested that it be stopped before the unauthorized deposit occurred. At the time, I thought it had been lost in the mail. I never imagined that months later I’d still be fighting to recover the money.
I just want the money permanently returned and an explanation that actually addresses the evidence.
Has anyone experienced something similar or worked in a bank department that handles these disputes?

Regulations/Laws Provisional Credit Reversal Potential?

Hi,

I bank with PNC. Unfortunately, I lost my debit card in June and incurred around several hundred dollars of fraudulent charges. Luckily, PNC flagged them as suspicious and notified me. I cancelled the card and filed a claim on the phone the day the charges were finalized.

I received provisional credit equaling the amount that was fraudulently taken from me shortly after.

However, it’s now October and there’s been no written update from PNC on my app or via email. In fact, it’s only if I call them that I can see that I have a fraud claim filed. I still have the provisional credit in my account.

Is it possible for PNC to reverse the credit now? Or should I assume the provisional credit is mine?

Edit: I filed the fraud dispute in early June. I can’t find any mail with an update about the claim. I called in a few days ago, and they said that I was supposed to contact the merchants myself and get refunded. However, the credit is still in my bank account.

Advice Best bank account (debit not credit) for international use and fund transfer?

Hi everyone!

I'm an Italian citizen living and working in Saudi Arabia, where I receive my salary into a local bank account.

I'm looking for a reliable international bank where I can safely keep my savings, regardless of where I live in the future.

I previously had an Italian bank account, but it was closed because I was no longer a resident.

Ideally, I'm looking for a bank that offers:

  • Security: Deposit guarantee scheme and financial stability.
  • Flexibility: Ability to keep the account even when changing countries of residence.
  • Low fees: Affordable international transfers and currency exchange.
  • Easy access: Ability to move my money without excessive paperwork or restrictions.
  • Worldwide usability: International debit card (not credit) and good customer support.

I already use Revolut for traveling and daily spending, but I wouldn't feel comfortable keeping all my savings there.

I'm open to both Italian and foreign banks, as long as they're secure, reliable, and convenient for expats.

Any recommendations or personal experiences?

Thanks!

Advice If a bank ATM steals $300 and 7 weeks later they still have not addressed the issue, what to do?

I've already disputed it, I've already done EVERYTHING I am supposed to do, I have already filed a claim with the CFPB, and nothing is resolved. What's next?

The bank called me today after the CFPB complaint and his dept. does not have the software ability to verify me (not a glitch, his dept doesn't have this software, so why did he even CALL me????) so since he can't verify me - they decline to help me, what's next? I called CFPB and they said there is nothing they can do. When they get a response from the bank they will close the case. They don't actually ACT on these complaints, literally... all they do is forward emails. As soon as my bank declines to act further, they will close the case. If I attempt to file it again with additional details, they will close it as a 2nd complaint regarding the same issue.

I discovered today that CFPB is THE most useless govt agency of them all. What is their purpose? I can email the bank myself.

Every single direction I turn is a brick wall. I have learned today that banks can steal your money, and short of spending thousands of dollars on an attorney to collect $300... they can do it with zero repercussions.

I swear to god I am going to start keeping my money under my mattress. It's safer than a bank. I am frustrated beyond frustrated right now, and it appears I am just out of luck.

This involves and ATM issue. I went to an ATM to remove $300 from my account. The ATM said that the transaction was declined. But they removed the money from my account anyway. It's just a software issue, but there is no way to resolve it.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
