Serious Replies Only [Serious]To the gym attendees, and especially the younger generation. Why the hell are you on your phones nonstop while sitting on a station and blocking others from using this?

I see this too. I also see them carrying on conversations while hogging up a machine.

I see more texting than typing, but some are chatting away as well.

Time distortion. You've experienced it too... you open your phone, and time melts.

Tracking my set and resting between sets.

Guess I could just blankly stare at the wall in between sets? lol

So staring at your phone for an extended amount of time, typing a novel, is ok with you as this is what some are doing. They are clueless.

Why would I be okay with that based on what I said? I can't speak to the people who are just sitting on their phones for an extended amount of time not doing any exercises, not sure why they'd be at the gym in the first place.

There's nothing wrong with using your phone in between sets.

As long as it is not an extended time as some are doing. Send a quick text is understandable. Resting for extended periods just to stay glued to your phone should not be happening.

They are exercising. Just taking very long breaks between sets, yet staying glued to the bench or whatever.

It’s that or stare at the wall during my rest between sets lol

If I'm on my phone at a station, I'm between sets at that station, and going to use it again

What else should they do in the 1-2 minutes between sets? Twiddle their fingers?

Should be 30sec bw sets, preferably a superset.

Sure, depends what you’re in the gym for though.

you need to rest between sets, no reason not to be on your phone

I don't disagree, but some of these damn people are on their phones for 5 minutes between sets while a line builds up. No one needs to rest that much.

what did they say when you asked to work in?

2

u/Gregorygregory888888 6h ago

Not as long as some are doing.

1

u/gator_mckluskie 6h ago

well if it’s that long just ask to work in. that’s proper gym etiquette

I do three reps on a machine. I'm not going to ask them to let me jump in. By the 2nd set, I'll be getting the death stare.

1

u/gator_mckluskie 6h ago

i don’t see why you wouldn’t still ask to work in. but at minimum why wouldn’t you ask them how many sets they have left if they’re just sitting there for 5+ mins?

It's most often younger women in my gym doing this, too. Guys are generally quick to offer to share the machine.

Went to the gym today and 3 or 4 stations saw a younger person, all females, staring at their phones and/or pecking away instead of putting them down and finishing this piece of equipment. Put the damn phone away and let others jump in. And yes, not limited to just younger folks, but they tend to be the majority.

Did you ask if you could jump in?

0

u/VirginiaBandit 6h ago

We should not have to do this. Get off when you see folks standing around.

0

u/VirginiaBandit 6h ago

Of course not. I'm looking to do a set of 3 of those machines, so I'm not asking them to vacate.

So to summarize, some people were resting between sets and looking at their phones. And they were unable to read your mind and determined that you would like to set in?

It’s totally normal to work in at a busy gym, even with 3 sets so this seems like a you problem

Female what?

1

u/VirginiaBandit 6h ago

German Shepherds. What the hell do you think I mean? The ladies working out at the gym.

Because they’re addicts

I chalk it up to much of the behavior we see today. Most people under 30 have never been punched in the face.
