One perspective: growing up, I was an avid reader. Always had a book, my mind in a fantasy world.
As an adult, I realized I was just dissociating from a really stressful childhood and had better mental health when I focused on the world around me rather than escaping it. I’m still a voracious learner, but reading novels is honestly a red flag for my mental health.
Not saying this applies to every reader, just wanted to share my experience.
I agree, it just is definitely it's own skillset. I have nothing against people listening to books instead of reading them, it is definitely more convenient if you can do it.
I think they really mean like not engaging with media that takes comprehension and imagination. So with either you have to complete the story in your head
I find it a lot more difficult to follow an audiobook than a written book so I was just under the assumption that they were different skills. It must just be a me issue judging by the comments though. TIL.
Well I listened to a lot of Audiobooks when I was driving trucks long-haul. Would I be more trustworthy if I read behind the wheel? F off with that take

When they don’t read. What do you MEAN. You can listen to audiobooks to easily.
