What harmless thing instantly makes you think, "I don't trust this person"?

How they treat animals. Makes me judge them right away.

I once went on a date with someone who walked me back to my apartment building wanting to meet my dog. Then proceeded to show me how to discipline her and make her listen to me and started to drag her aggressively. I got scared, grabbed the leash and went back into the building, it was the first and the last time I ever saw him

So I know most people dont like spiders. But there have been two separate occasions where I have seen someone sloooooowly kill a basic house spider. And something about that just rubs me the wrong way.

Coincidentally, both people were "emotionally unavailable" due to coming out of relationships at the time they did it. Maybe I am reading into it too much, but it just seemed like such a huge metaphor for how they would treat another person if they were to jump into a new relationship.

It does speak to their character.

Yeah.. or spending a lot of their money for them to be abused and killed

Oh yeah. That's a red flag right there.

100%. I used to know a girl who claimed to love animals, help them, protect them but her partner would regularly go hunting. I mean of course, it's not her who was doing it but how can you claim to have such values and sleep in one bed with someone who kills animals for entertainment?

Not all hunters kill for entertainment, it can be their supply of food. If they are a good hunter with a good shot, then hunting game animals can actually be more humane than buying mass produced meat. Of course, it depends on the kind of hunting that this particular individual is doing. If it’s just for trophies or entertainment and not for food then I am totally against it.

I totally agree, sometimes hunting is the main supply of food. But this was not the case, he just like it as a sport. She was aware of it. As far as I know they broke up but I doubt it was a reason.

It's very easy to see who's hunting as a hobby vs who's hunting for food though.
Hunting as a hobby for me is completely unacceptable.

Idk, hunting can be the natural companion for a love of nature and animals. There's not a lot of things that makes me feel like a fellow living being in the natural world as spending time in nature and eating a self caught fish. If I could gain the skills and legality to hunt, dress and cook a rabbit, I'd feel pretty damn grounded. Instead of the dead feeling I often have when sitting in front of fancy technology eating a mass produced, store bought and pretty unnaturally bred pig steak...
