Pets can be poorly trained, and in that case, may not be a good judge of character. I've seen cats who were antisocial and extremely aggressive to strangers, as well as dogs that just bark non stop at a specific person in a group, for no apparent reason. Happened to me one time on a high school trip where a girl brought her Maltese, and the thing just kept barking at me the whole time. By the end of the trip, all the girls were convinced I was a bad person because of it. Ridiculous! Meanwhile I have a wonderful cat and dog of my own who are very well behaved.
That is objectively, outright false. If I take in an evil street cat that’s known for being violent and antisocial, I can’t turn around and be like “well the cat doesn’t like you, so you must be a bad person” like c’mon dude be real 🤣
Yeah, I took in a violent antisocial cat and he wouldn't let anyone pet him without him attempting to bite you or scratch you. Hos behavior had nothing to do with the visitor, he was just like that, lol. He was only occasionally like that with me, lol.
idk about that the amount of dogs I have seen attack children or try to is ridiculous. I think if your pet does not like someone it is more likely that you yourself don't like someone and maybe don't realize it yet
It’s a little silly to drop a person just because your cat doesn’t like them. It may literally be because they smell like another cat or something. Caution is one thing, blind trust of your pet’s judgement is another entirely.
That could also be a sign that the animal is abused or there are hostile people in its life.
When I was growing up we had a lovable derpy lab that was friendly and sociable with everyone but old bald guys. We had an old bald neighbor that would throw rocks into our yard and yell at our dog to get her to go inside. He really didn’t things moving past our shared fence and she would try to patrol the perimeter.
She was never aggressive and barely made noise, but she was terrified of him and anyone that looked like him but she was brave enough to keep patrolling. I think part of him just liked causing misery and terrorizing animals.
As a result she wouldn’t approach old bald guys. She would just “hrrumph” walk away and lay down where she could keep an eye on them.
That's funny, because my harmless thing that makes me immediately distrust someone is when they delusionally think their animals have some deep insight into a stranger's character.
My dog loved my sister’s ex who is now not in jail because he got off easy after doing one of the worst possible things you can do.
Never trusting a dog’s judgement again. They can maybe pick up on signs a person is planning to do something bad at that moment, but they cannot tell if someone is a good or bad person overall.
My dog literally tries to hump anything with a vagina.
When you have to be like, even I wouldn’t fuck that buddy.I would not say he’s an excellent judge of character.
TBF, having grown up with pets, various dogs and cats in particular (not like the jungle book, just pets haha)... some of these have taken random dislike to people that I know are very nice people.
Most pets are poorly socialized. Two common scenarios where dogs react negatively are to men with beards and old people, because the owner failed to socialize them early with those types of people.
I feel like I'm constantly hearing about dogs who "don't like kids," "don't like men," "bark at people in hats," etc. I feel like this is usually rooted in some trauma that overrides their ability to discern new people from one or a few specific bad people from their past, which suggests they're actually exceptionally unreliable references.
cat? bro, I had 4 cats and if I replied ok them for friends I'd have no friends.
and dogs? you've not spent enough time around dogs. you ever get attacked by someone else's domesticated dog? damn, I guess I shouldn't have been a kid playing in the street.
also I adopted a min pin from rescue. it was traumatized by some Latino immigrants at a puppy mill. that dog hates every brown man with an accent for the rest of her VERY long life. I'm not gonna trust my extremely racist dog how to pick friends.

Animals, 100% animals. If your dog/cat doesn’t like someone … get rid of that person.
