Open Thread Weekly Monday Open Thread!

Welcome to the Monday open discussion thread. Here you can talk about anything you want; tactics, results, players or even just general football discussion! It is also a great place to post/link transfer rumours that you may think are too small or unreliable to post to the main feed. The summer transfer window is now shut.

These threads will go up every Monday allowing you to debrief from all of the weekend action and discuss ongoings throughout the week. It will stay stickied until we refresh with the Friday thread, however other posts may take priority (match threads, announcements, etc.)

This thread can also be used to discuss transfer rumours, jokes, memes, images, videos, tabloid news and other off-topic content and discussion.

We also have a WSL & UWCL Fantasy League that you are welcome to join and share your team, advice and goings on throughout the season here in these threads. The WSL league code is 900COJH2. The UWCL league code is LjHYHW

Inspired by the player's pre-match playlists, our very own Tugboat47 is curating a community pre-match playlist. To participate please click this link and submit your entries.

These threads are here to help discussion and offer varying points of view. Please remain respectful. Anything that crosses that line, directed towards other users or specific individuals may be removed.

Discussion/Question Have we become the Man United of the women's game?

I posted a question earlier asking for the updated views of people who thought going into the Chelsea game that Renee should be given more time, which drew a very healthy response with eight replies in five minutes and then it was shut down by the mods 🤷🏼

But one of the comments that caught my eye in that time was someone who said that what was wrong with the club wouldn't be rectified by just a change of manager.

It's a comment you hear often said about the Manchester United men's team, that they get a short term bounce from removing the manager but then the same rot catches up with the new guy each time. The cause of the rot never gets treated.

Given the size of the club we've underperformed for the last eight years. I know you can't win the league every year (although Chelsea gave it a go) but in the last four seasons in particular we've been effectively out of the title race in early autumn. We lose in the FA Cup to the first WSL team we get drawn against each season. It's a pathetic underachievement.

I don't think it's a reason for Renee to stay in her job, I just think whatever her message is the players have stopped listening, but there is a wider debate to have about what else needs to change. Have we actually made the players too comfortable with the move to the Emirates and the facilities they have at the club now? Have we got the right people in the right jobs in the backroom staff (if you know you're going to be up against a llow block every week - which most teams do struggle to break down, it's not just us - your set pieces have to be the difference because you're going to get a lot of then and they're the best way of breaking the deadlock. Ours are horrendous. Every week.) I know people have issues with the higher ups but I don't think we could have had a much better transfer window than the one we had. But were they players the manager actually wanted or are they given to her and then she's told to mould them into a team?

I'd love a proper discussion about the issues at the club beyond the manager if the Mods will allow it.
