Major Samsung One UI update expected in 2027 (Could also be called Galaxy OS instead of One UI 10)

They may as well rename One UI since they've been gradually moving away from the one-handed usability principles they named the UI after.
The original idea was splitting the screen into a viewing area (top half) and interaction area (bottom half). For example, the quick panel used to push buttons to the the bottom half of the screen when pulled down so you could reach everything with your thumb. This principle used to apply throughout the OS and Samsung apps, but now it's an inconsistent mess as they've been relentlessly copying Apple without paying attention to their own UX guidelines.
I won't be surprised if the new UI is a liquid glass clone.

Huh, TIL. I just kinda assumed it was One as in unified across devices.

Me too, though I guess that was silly of me, seeing as the UI isn’t even unified across One device

This actually explains why the spaces above the system menus were so large on my A50.

Holy shit is that a stupid design. Who thought using the top 1/3 of the screen like that is a good idea?

u/MeggaMortY 3d ago
To be honest it would've been promising if they ever did anything useful with that area. But I think this whole idea was more like wishful thinking.
44
u/Dislike24 4d ago
Exactly. Its no longer one hand focus ui anymore. Ever since One UI 4 and newer, all of the UI was back to the top again
17
u/MeggaMortY 4d ago
Not to mention they've been butchering the original principle for at least 5 major versions by now.
We got sold a promise, but forgot the joke - Samsung is an optics-first company, and any promises of "utility meets design" should be taken with extreme grain of salt.
Glad I'm not using their products for the last 3 years.

FINALLY someone said it. Also wouldn't be surprised if the A series got a crappy watered down version of the already liquid glass clone

u/Fractal-Infinity Samsung S25U One UI 3d ago
The A series will definitely get that because that series is powered by weak Exynos processors. If One UI is already too heavy for the A series and cause sluggish performance, imagine how heavy a liquid glass clone will be for them. Those fancy effects are computationally intensive.

Of course it will be Liquid Glass alike.

Liquid glass clone would be at least consistent than bs they have rn

I won't be surprised if the new UI is a liquid glass clone.
The evidence so far points to that. But it will be frosted glass, not liquid glass.

THAT was the reason for the name?? That must be meant ironically, because phones (Android and iPhone) are so bad at one hand usability. Too much shit is still cramped into the top part of the screen and with 6.3" phones being considered "small" nowadays, my thumb is barely reaching half of the screen without some hand yoga.
What stops companies from just moving EVERY clickable thing into the bottom part of the screen? I don't understand it.

It's gonna be glass isn't it..

I think so. They’ve copied the design of the iPhone 17 pro max. Might as well copy the OS too. 😂

Gimme a fully locked in material UI please. That thing was gorgeous for the 5 minutes Android used it.

I just want a modern user interface. One UI looks like Symbian.

u/Masterflitzer 4d ago
oneui looks fine, the only thing missing is consistency, 100% consistent oneui 5/6 would be peak ui

u/tiradium S24 Ultra 1TB 4d ago
Yep exactly they keep messing with the UI and are trying to copy Apple in the worst possible ways

galaxy os would make way more sense tbh, nobody outside samsung fans knows what one ui even means. more interested in whether they finally speed up updates than the name lol

u/Rangannan1 4d ago
I will be more than happy if they would just fix the animations and just make it more stable and improve camera. I don't even need little of those AI in my phone OS.

u/mataushas 4d ago
Camera story never ends. They change camera hardware but software optimization is stuck at least 5 years behind.
11
u/regardballs 4d ago
do they even change the hardware? lmao
6
u/mataushas 4d ago
I think they do but maybe they didn't between S24 and S25? I think they change it every two years but then they go back and forth.

u/mbc07 SM-S911B 4d ago
The Ultra barely got any change in the cameras. For the base model and plus it's even worse, exactly the same camera hardware since the S22...
2
u/QuietApplication5734 4d ago
This year they made the aperture wider on the main sensor, but the main sensor has been the same since the S23 Ultra.
They did improve the selfie camera, the ultrawide camera, and the 5x telephoto over the last few phones.
For the S27 Ultra, they are supposed to improve the main sensor with a new 200-megapixel sensor.
It doesn't really matter at the end of the day unless they improve their image processing.

This is literally the only reason I'm planning to move off my S26U and onto an iPhone.
All phone cameras have been great... In perfect lighting. When it comes to taking photos of moving subjects like kids and pets, it's laughable how much better my wife's 4 year old iPhone is compared to mine.
Everything else I can live with, it's just either different or a minor annoyance. Having bad photos of my kids isn't something I can magically make better years down the line.

A major update that people will just bitch about.
-1
u/OldOpinion47 3d ago
Because it will still be a buggy, laggy, stuttery, choppy mess.

u/Conscious-Pick8002 3d ago
Like the iPhone🤭

Bro couldn't handle the truth, so he had to move his own comment's goal to iPhone 😂

I mean why not...we've already had Touchwiz, Samsung Experience, and One UI. What's one more. /s

Just let us get rid of the squirrels. Please god. I'll buy your whole stupid ecosystem if you just give me geometric shapes.
Good Lock can only get the app drawer ones but they're bloody everywhere.

u/ZLAurora 3d ago
Use icon pack studio
You can set your systemwide icon pack to look exactly like normal, but with squares (or circles or hexagons or whatever) instead of squircles
Then apply it via good lock and it'll fix your icons everywhere
1
u/getmoneygetpaid Purple 2d ago
That still leaves all kinds of stuff in settings and splash screens etc that are still squircles :)
1
u/ZLAurora 2d ago
💔 yeah they should make the good lock toggle work systemwide
You can at least fix the notification panel one, if you turn on "show app icon in notifications"
1
u/getmoneygetpaid Purple 2d ago
Are you using Samsung now? Are there still a lot of squircles in the settings and share sheet? I duo back in every couple of years to see if they've removed it and it does seem Samsung is slowly moving away from the squircles.
1
u/ZLAurora 2d ago
Yes I'm using a Samsung - S25 Edge, One UI 7.
Every app icon in the share sheet fully adheres to my square icon pack (except the WhatsApp chat icons are completely circular, and the "Quick Share" button is still a squircle).
If you use "show app icon in notifications" then you can almost fully get rid of the squircles in notification center too (except for WhatsApp chat icons + phone status (battery, charging, alarm, download complete etc) which are still squircles)
Most app icons in Settings→Apps follow my square icon pack. The exceptions are niche system "apps" like AICore and Auto Blocker
My homescreen folders are square too, thanks to good lock
The Settings→Galaxy AI icons are all squircles though

Oh it's great that good luck fixed the folders. Last time I tried, that had broken until long after I sold the tablet so at least 6 months.

u/Oakredditer Pixel 6, Pixel 10 4d ago
Nothingburger if they aren't bringing back worldwide bootloader unlocking (not counting restricting features afterwards)
2
u/Gugalcrom123 3d ago
They even discontinued it in the EU
2
u/liberty_grimes 3d ago
Geez, and here I’d thought that the EU had way better phone features compared to the US.
1
u/Berkoudieu 4d ago
My little finger tells me that except on launch devices, a lot of features won't be available to earlier devices.
With updates months later

They can do whatever they want as long as they don't fuck with Good Lock
