It is very sad to see that people are no longer concealing their casteism. They have found a reason to hate Dalits again; it's just in the form of a "reason" now. Otherwise, they would hold the government accountable for the lack of good institutions rather than picking on already marginalized communities.
3
u/Soggy-Promise-5326 Aug 04 '26
What good are the "good" institutions if they don't even allow the best. JNU cutoff was 301/300 btw.

People are not bound to hate. They are blind and full of hatred. Dalits didn't get opressed and worked like slaves on purpose and neither did they got freebies as justice. Society finds ways to keep using some people, first they did it with untouchability to make them work for nothing and now they are doing it in the name of reservation and freebies for votes. If a privilaged person hates them then obviously the problem is with them.

u/Mango_Ice_ Aug 04 '26
You are viewing it from your angle.
You gotta put yourself in their shoes too.
Imagine being a student who never discriminated against anyone based on caste or race, and then when he entered Class 11, he was suddenly told that he had no right to ~50% of the seats in NEET & JEE just because he was born in a certain caste.
On the other hand, his friend, with whom he shared the same environment every year and got access to the same resources, already has a seat booked for him in the top colleges.Imagine what he would feel.
For him, he is the one being discriminated against based on something he couldn't control (in which family he would be born). It is very easy to call them privileged, but when you walk in their shoes, you'd realise that there's another side to the coin.

They are seeing it from their "angle". I was talking about the whole picture. If they never noticed how sanitation workers and labourers are mostly from a marginalised community and never noticed the castism around them, they are either from a very different place or they simply never cared unless it was about them.
3
u/abman79 Aug 04 '26
Just wanna ask. How exactly are those people getting benefits from reservation.
1
u/Straight_Two_5435 Aug 10 '26
Bhai tum kaun sa unke haq ke liye reservation khatam krne ka baat kr re ho. Tumhe jalan hai ki tumhara dost km no paa ke job aur education le raha hai isliye tum reservation ke khilaf ho. Aur fir bolte ho sanitary workers ko kaun sa reservation benefit mil raha hai as if you care a lot about them π
1
u/abman79 Aug 10 '26
I mean isn't it unfair that my friend gets to get into a college even after a low score when some actual kid who maybe is deserving of getting proper education is still going to wash toilets just because his parents did. The reservation should be for the one who actually need it.
2
u/Mango_Ice_ Aug 04 '26
No, you were talking about YOUR angle.
If you want the whole picture, you have to consider their angle as well.

u/Agent_Rum Aug 05 '26
That's a fair point, and I don't dismiss that frustration. If you've never personally discriminated against anyone and suddenly find yourself competing for fewer seats, it's understandable why it feels unfair from your perspective.
At the same time, that frustration is often directed at the policy or the individuals benefiting from it rather than the structural issues it was designed to address. Two students may study in the same classroom for two years, but they don't necessarily start from the same social position or carry the same historical disadvantages.
I also think the intensity of this conflict is made worse by the extreme scarcity of quality seats. Increasing the number of seats and improving public institutions would reduce that competition while still addressing the inequalities that reservation was meant to tackle.

"They don't want to work and compete in merit and when the other side hates it they start rerming it as castism.
That's totally absurd and stupid as you there's no way you can prove it.
It's only castism if you hate them personally, are against reservation even if it's reformed and you are more privilaged than them and you yourself never get descriminated in the basis of caste like they do.
If "they" started asking for best quality education, equal share in post-independence land and resources, severe punishment against castism your own people will reject those things and choose to give them reservation which is just a way to keep them from competition with privilaged people - bare minimum.
Btw. these "castists" also hate the free higher education given to them and also those who don't even use reservation. You might want to check again if you are just a Castist.

Nobody hate Dalits, reality is SC/ST people have ~25% reservation, and checks stats, all of these seats are filled by top 1% sc/st(like meenas), these 1% are rich, successful, majority live in urban areas, and still get admission at low marks, these top 1% are new looters of India, all we GC want is creamy layer, all we want is that a son of IAS will give exam as equal to GC
2
u/Wise_Month446 Aug 05 '26
Okay you have example of meenas that's right . But if you see most of the SC ST seats still go vacant bcuz we are just not able to find enough people . Then how are meena or other so called sucessful SC caste have taken benefit from others. Anyhow being rich doesn't change your caste , Ram Nath Kovind despite being president faced discrimination when he visited temple.
No one is looting india more then what upper caste people despite being 5-10% are occupying most of the upper post , less the 5% joint secretaries are from SC . It's sheer incompetence of upper caste or govt for that matter that we don't want to question in the first place
3
u/mSignal_Owl_8994 Aug 05 '26
First, get your facts right, why you people assume that upper caste is Brahmin, total GC is around 25-30% in India, and how can they loot in govt Job, if they only compete in open seats, 50% seats are reserved, and there is EWS also, they compete in non reserved seats, and you even have problem with that,

Please give me a Sanatan dharma source where it is written that sati is compulsory for widows ?

u/AskGrok Aug 04 '26
No primary Sanatan Dharma text (Vedas, core Smritis like Manusmriti) makes Sati compulsory for widows. Manusmriti 5.157-160 directs widows to live chastely, pursue asceticism, or remarry in certain cases. Later regional customs and some Puranic references describe voluntary Sati in specific contexts, but it was never a universal mandate.

Sati emerged as a regional custom without scriptural mandate in core texts, driven by social, economic, and cultural pressures in specific contexts.
It was most commonly practiced among Rajput (Kshatriya) communities in Rajasthan and western India, where it tied to elite warrior clans and sometimes linked to Jauhar during invasions to avoid capture. In Bengal it started among Kshatriyas by the 12th century, later spreading to Brahmins and other castes partly due to inheritance laws that made widows targets for family pressure. Occasional instances occurred among Marwaris and select upper-caste groups elsewhere, but it remained far from universal across Hindu society.
Factors included widow hardships under traditional norms, prestige signaling in certain lineages, and occasional coercion or glorification as heroic, even if texts like Manusmriti emphasized ascetic widowhood instead. British records from the early 1800s noted hundreds of cases yearly, concentrated in those pockets before the 1829 ban.

The earliest known recorded case with epigraphic evidence in India is the Eran inscription (Madhya Pradesh) from ~510 CE.
It commemorates Goparaja (a vassal of Bhanugupta) and explicitly states that his devoted wife immolated herself on his funeral pyre after he died in battle.
This is widely cited by historians as the oldest surviving sati stone/inscription in India (a slightly earlier one exists in Nepal from 464 CE). Earlier literary or Greek references (e.g., Diodorus Siculus on 4th-century BCE Punjab) exist but aren't specific named "cases" with direct Indian records.

"the practice of self-immolation or widow-burning (Sati or Anugamana) is explicitly mentioned and praised in the Garuda Purana (such as in Book 1, Chapter 107 and Chapter 4 of the Preta Kalpa), where it states that a chaste wife who ascends her deceased husband's funeral pyre attains heaven and purifies past sins." -- found online

Sati happened historically and some Puranas like Garuda praise the voluntary act for merit, but no core text makes it compulsory. The meme nails the clown progression on the rest.

Reservation is not a poverty alleviation scheme, it's meant to combat the generations of opression and social hiearchy where one group of people was placed at the bottom and was denied any chance of upward social mobility I think people like you see the poverty that hass been so widespread in all parts of the population, and see nothing being done about it and you see the solution as removing reservation or changing the criteria for it. If you want people of all caste to get access to more opportunities, then we need to hold our government accountable and make them invest more on the people, education should be made more accessible and virtually free, government schools should actually function instead of their current condition where they have terrible infrastructure. Thats just my argument, you can disagree with it, fine. I am just trying to say, try to channel your frustration into something productive, hum apne surrounding me gareebi and poor infrastructure roz dekhte hai, but we don't do anything about it, let's atleast try to raise our voices, even if it is at some random subreddit comment section to bring change.

Youβre raising a legitimate concern about fairness, especially for poor students from non-reserved categories. Economic hardship absolutely matters, and policies for EWS and PwBD are important. But the argument against caste-based reservation is not as simple as βmy grandfather harmed your grandfather, therefore I owe you something.β
The idea behind reservation is not individual guilt. The state is not saying that a present-day person from one caste personally owes compensation to a present-day person from another caste. The argument is that caste discrimination historically created structural disadvantages that can persist across generations through land ownership, education, social networks, neighborhood segregation, and access to opportunities.
Your βblind evaluationβ proposal is useful for reducing direct examiner bias, and many institutions already use anonymized answer scripts where possible. But reservation was not created only to solve bias in marking or interviews; it was also meant to address unequal starting conditions and under-representation in education and public employment.

No, sati did not start after the Mughal invasion. The practice existed in India centuries before Mughal rule, though some historical arguments suggest its frequency may have increased or changed in nature during periods of foreign conflict.Early Evidence of SatiAncient texts: Mentions and debates regarding a wife dying on her husband's pyre appear in older epics like the Mahabharata.Inscriptions and records: Greek accounts from the time of Alexander the Great and Chandragupta Maurya note similar customs. Physical archaeological proof, such as early memorial "sati stones" and inscriptions, dates back well before the second millennium CE.
Almost all famous babas support scriptures obvr constitution Bageshwar baba being one
Patriarchy is deeply rooted in culture, if you cant find the corelation your are just wrong.
True casteism exists. There are a lot of places where "lower castes" Need to have a police force to even enter a temple.
Just how brainwashed are you.

No Hindu , or a true indian ( people of true indian descent - hindu, jain, Sikh , Buddhist). No one says that satipratha was fake . Neither do they say manusmriti over samvidhan - in reality outside of congress and anti hindu propoganda people don't even mention manusmriti. Neither does anyone deny casteism. It was .Β
No Hindu or a real indian says that a religious text is above samvidhan. That is what certain muslims says ( I didn't say all muslims, I said some . Some are really patriotic, while some says that Islam comes first , Palestine comes first before india and before the constitution)

Did Sati existed before Mughals? YES ,it existed long before them.
Did it existed before Islamic Invasion? YES it did.
Did islamic invasion accelerated it? YES too some extent, Practice like Jauhar increased in War heavy regions, but no evidence that it may have affected the entire India.
Was sati a common practice? NO , it was rare practice ,it was geographical uneven ,means appeared more in certain regions and negligible in others.
Was it a norm for a widow? NO, majority of widows in Indian history did not perform sati.
Did anyone tried to stop it before Raja Ram Mohan Roy? YES.
Harsha (Harshavardhan)[7th Century ruler] discouraged it and did what was under his domains.
Akbar tried to restrict it.
Was Sati a religious practice? NO , it was not a religious practice, though few people used to justify it with the name of religion.
And this religion justification thing never ended, even now people may justify their own common personal views and beliefs over the name of religion which their religion have never taught or stated infact sometimes religion itself contradict their views which they justify on its name. And this thing is not limited to one religion but happens in literally all the religion.
Source: Trust me for now , i will give it you if you ask me later on for the points you ask it for.

The actual representation of Reservation is 49% reserved for SC,ST, & OBC & remaining 51% for Gen...But ...But in 2019 a data showed in Parliament that the top institution like IIT's only have 9% seats reserved for people from ST, SC, & OBC. And that data is similar for IIMs & AIIMS also! Therefore, there is no mean to cry for GEN students to not getting selected as General contribute only 26% of the population already getting a Huge no. Of seats at top institutes.

Satipratha was real no doubt in it but it was not widely practiced or accepted so u cant put blanket hate on hinduism for it manu hindu community have rejected this idea way before.manusmrit is a smriti means written by some person and manusmriti was meant to be a law book of hindus(which was bad law book) but it was not the only law book in hindusim but thats past our current smriti pf law is constitution of india ie the law book of hindus and all indians.patriarchy is a world concept not specific to any place but unlike west where most of the community followed patriarchy india had many non patriarchal communities, casteism exists noone is denying that but reservation in educational institutions or in job will not fix it abolishing of caste by abolishing the title in name would(like tamil nadu) and for development of lc people reservation should be given in lok sabha and rajya sabha so there community people can actually work for the better of their community.
