Command and conquer is where its at because EA thinks the rts genre is pretty much dead.
Biowares games probably won't be handed off or they would have said something in the meantime the IPs will sit in the basement for probably a decade or so before somebody thinks to trot them out again
Not big enough for EA to bother with. I jeep seeing other studios try to make rts games and they always seem to focus on Esports over just making a fun strategy game
Excuse me, but a lot of us are still jumping up down on the corpse of AOE2 and it's 5000 DLC. That sounds sarcastic, but I'm being serious. I still love that game.
Everyone also thought that old school western RPGs were a stagnant market before BG3. I think a high-quality successor to Starcraft or Command and Conquer would succeed. The problem is that studios keep trying to devise ways to ensure that they turn a profit instead of focusing on making a game that's actually good enough to attract new players to the genre. Also, RTS game tend to be bottlenecked by things other than GPUs, so they will run on existing hardware.
The genre peaked with Supreme Commander and nobody's been able to do bigger or better, everything keeps scaling back down to the x-com squad tactical level with RPG elements formula.
If you liked SupCom, check out BEYOND ALL REASON. It's a free RTS (not even in game purchases) with an active community which ticks all the warm and fuzzy "I can have 2000 units in the field" boxes.
