There’s a strangely childlike sadness I feel about BioWare closing. Not necessarily because of what the studio is today, but because of what it represented to me growing up. In some way, its continued existence felt like a tether to my childhood, as though a small piece of that time was still alive in the present. As long as BioWare was around, it felt like that chapter of my life hadn’t entirely closed.
And yet, I can look at this rationally. The BioWare I fell in love with arguably ceased to exist a long time ago. They haven’t produced anything that captures that same magic in well over a decade, and I can understand how things eventually reached this point. In that sense, the closure isn’t entirely surprising, perhaps not even undeserved from a business perspective.
My only true regret over this announcement is the thought that dragon age and mass effect, two of my all tine favorite franchises, are probably done and will continue their slow fade into obscurity.
It feels like watching a relative die in hospice. Of course you knew it was coming, of course they've been out of it for years, of course it's arguably better for them to die off rather than keep suffering. But man it still hurts, you know?
I'm actually feeling happy about it.
The BioWare I fell in love with died long ago.
It's been 14 years since I could actually finish a game from them, and even then endings left me unsatisfied, and it felt like what I loved had already changed beyond recognition at that point.
I think that is largely the same as what you experience.
I am just happy that the name of the studio I loved won't be dragged even more through the mud by these horrible releases.
The closure also makes total sense to me.
Not only were the games bad, but they totally alienated their core audience that felt a connection to the games they made.
They made games of poor quality, that had no audience, and pushed away people that could relate to their games in different ways.

Still, will be missed.
