Always sad to see people lose their jobs, but frankly, the BioWare we once knew died a long time ago.

Yep, we arent really losing much but to me it hits more on the "sign of the times"

Agreed. It got hollowed out and was a shell of itself. Veilguard was proof that the team in Bioware had lost the essence of what made their games interesting and their universes complex. It was just a weird, toothless, cutesy attempted copy of Inquisition and I just couldn't bring myself to finish it.

Veilguard? Not the garbage that was ME:Andromeda or Anthem.

Bioware had lost it long ago already, Veilguard was just the final nail.

No because rumor was all those projects were rushed or the studio was pressured to make a game they didn't really want to make, but Veilguard was the reset and when it launched it was extremely bug free and stable so you can tell they had the time and resources they needed to put their best foot forward, no excuses. So there you go

Not that sad. They sucked at their jobs. Deserved to be laid off

BioWare made some extremely successful games and formed the rpg franchise as we know it to what it is today.

The problem was they released Anthem and were never given a second chance after that.

Sad to see it go but, yet again, another talented studio is put to rest because of investors. Not based on logic or reason, only money.

Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard. 3 bad games in a row, it wasn't just Anthem.

The truth is...most games in history have been mediocre. If we're really honest, that Bioware and other studios did well for so long is more of an outlier. Making games is hard, regardless of your individual skill or knowledge. Having empathy for people losing their jobs matters and hopefully people go on to other ways to support themselves and their loved ones. But at the end of the day, Andromeda, Veilguard, even Anthem are mediocre. Most games are. We just remember how big the ones that influence us are and our disappointments more than...well, all the games you used to ignore at Blockbuster Video or currently in the Steam Store...

I don't have empathy for luxury commission jobs. You put out something good or perish into the blue collar sector. Those developers will be fine.

Some devs, writers, quality testers, and others will be fine. But not being blue collar isn't my standard for empathy. I know a lot of disabled folks in the industry, a lot of folks who got dream jobs but still aren't comfortable. Anyone who experiences insecurity in employment and housing has my empathy so long as the work they do and did does not further exceptional harm. Maybe it's because I've experienced enough housing and work insecurity between childhood to now. Maybe it's because I really tried to get hired as a writer by Bioware. But in the end, I believe all humans deserve empathy, even those who disappointed me through some of their work at Bioware. Just my perspective.

They had plenty of chances. Look i'm nostalgic for the bioware of old but they have no one to blame for themselves here.
