eh I think it had something to do with Anthem and non-financially successful games than it has to do with the badly written LGBT+ characters given inquisition had some very prominent LGBT+ representation and that game made financial bank....its the money that matters to them...and Veilguard wasnt that great in revenue.
It's a combination of things. Money is a factor, but Saudi, PIF, owns 93% of EA. They have some really strong laws regarding LGBT+ content. There is a long list of checks that need to be verified if a game is being sold in that region. Example, Sony Plus had Veilguard as their front liner one month. That was removed/replaced so fast in Saudi.
Additional information no one asked for; different countries have different restrictions interms of content on games.
Blame the company that bought them, kept them afloat for 2 decades. Cost EA just under $1 billion, and BioWare never capitalized and brought in the money. Baldur’s Gate 3 was the best selling game at 20 million copies.
At some point a company has to observe profit vs cost. It was costing EA too much money to keep BioWare employed.
People always act as if game developers should always keep their job despite not producing.
This situation sucks, not going to say it isn’t.
But why are game publishers always to blame for the fault of the studio?
Games cost a lot of money to make, companies are not in the habit of keeping studios around just to make games for mass to enjoy, they need to see a return in their investment.
Sadly, BioWare failed to provide the numbers needed.
Don’t bother posting that silly “leave billion dollar company alone” meme.
That does not apply to this situation.
Vielguard sold 1.5 million copies.
Andromeda sold roughly 3 million copies.
A company stays around by making hard decisions.
And the people who are crying that EA should be shut down makes no sense.
Why would you be upset over BioWare closing, yet, be okay with AEW closing which would leave even more unemployed?
BioWare is but one studio, and people act as if the studio should be kept around just to keep people employed, but then those same people want even more people to lose their job because they don’t like the company.
People get fired from jobs all the time for not producing results. game studios should not be immune for the same reason.

I fucking hate EA and this completely ensured I will never buy a thing from them again.
