Yeah, it came with 2 disks to install so you didn't have to connect to the Internet, seems like a lifetime ago with the way things currently are headed.

Well if you’re not connected to the internet, the game won’t even know it needs a patch whether it’s required to play or not. It will play like it was made to play on the day it was released and won’t know any better.

If you’re playing games that are multiplayer, then yea you need to update them. But any game that has a single player mode can be played without updating as long as it doesn’t smell the internet.

https://www.doesitplay.org/

A vast amount of games can be installed and played from disc with no internet connection or download required.
That there's day 1 patches for most games now, doesn't mean the 1.0 version is not playable.

Maybe because an day one patch being there does not mean it is needed to be playable. (Depends on the game)

Just as a possibility. Not sure why else tbh

A lot do but afterwards they are free to be played offline unless they are strictly online only. A lot don't require it.

How do you plan to apply the patches for the games, so you don't have to run an ancient, buggy and less-featured version of the game?

Don’t do that with NMS lol…zero patch NMS is a dumpster fire.

Digital only is completely fine.

Not being able to run your own content is the problem.

There are more open platforms that allow for it.

Preferring a half-broken game when you can have the full experience is the sad state of SONY's platform.

That said, they need to get regulated out the wazoo to not allow this behavior(axing access to content users paid for) in the first place.

Unless it's self published, developers do not have control over release dates. Publishers do.
