It is $100 dollars for the full game. There are shops and stores the the game locked behind the 100 dollar deluxe edition

I'm sorry, what? I knew there were guns, apparel and cars but there's actually stores you can't access without the ultimate edition?!

Yeah, looks like about 4 or 5 stores. I'll be curious to see what exactly the difference is between the stores, especially the car mods. I don't have a problem with locking cosmetics behind an ultimate version, but I don't like them doing it via exclusive stores and I definitely don't like locking any performance mods behind the ultimate edition.

It will be incredibly immersion breaking if I can't walk into a store that I should be able to because I haven't bought the right edition, and if there's a prompt for me to purchase the ultimate edition that will be even worse.

Cosmetic only, kinda bad but not game breaking.

Read some posts mentioning certain storylines 1 or 2 are also locked behind the $100 version. Probably just extra not needed for the story but who knows.

Gta is pretty much famous for extras that aren't needed for the story but add to the immersion.

Fair enough, I'll probably wind up getting it but $80 is steep, let alone $100, the lack of physical copies is a bit detering for this price point. I'm hoping the trend doesn't urge other developers to follow suit but it's GTA.. a notoriously successful franchise that hasn't had a new installment in over a decade.

Pretty sure all it is, is providing an in game way to get the extra stuff from ultimate edition rather than just getting it off a menu or having it automatically show up in your inventory. People are blowing this up imo, its the same as any other game adding extra cosmetics to different editions, just a different way of obtaining em.

It literally says some stores will only be available in the ultimate edition. Not some individual pieces of clothing, whole fucking store.

And also a customization garage. The description doesn't mention whether it's the only customization garage, I guess we will learn once it comes out.

Yes, stores where you can specifically get the Ultimate edition stuff are locked for the base game. But the stores only exist as a way to get that stuff, so it would be pointless to include them for anyone who doesn't own the ultimate edition.

There will be plenty of other stores where you can get the base game clothes/accessories/etc. I would stakes my entire family's lives on the ultimate edition customisation garage being only one of many useable garages.

I'm not even defending the decision, I just think it isnt that big of a deal even if it is a tad scummy.

In other words, they took some parts of the game they made and proactively decided to carve them out of the game. It's specifically enough to not feel worth $20, but a large enough part of the game that you will feel like you're missing out if you buy the standard one.

Let's call it what it is, the game costs $100 dollars but you can also buy the peasant edition for $80.

You're describing the exact process that has been going on for AAA games pre-orders and special editions for over 10 years. The in game items are barely going to matter, if you're that upset over it, buy the "peasant edition".

Nah man... Normally ultimate editions are 5 to 10 extra items at most and usually include a dlc pass. To the point where not having them doesn't feel bad.

The locked tattoo shop alone has over 50 tats. And the list of crap not in the base edition is hella long. This is way beyond the normal upcharge tactics.

it’s been going for way longer than 10 years;

perhaps you don't remember online passes back in PS3/360 era which was their scheme to limit consumer rights of reselling their own stuff, because they've backed out of that one mostly

but regardless, the fact companies have been pissing on consumer for god knows how many years, doesn't mean the process of pissing on consumers is something i will applaud

I'm quite relaxed, perhaps a bit of projection here since you're replying to my comment.

I said there is no information.

But this is also a Take-two game for whom any reasonable consumer has 0 trust whatsoever.

I trust that it’s going to be an incredible game

1

u/oblivion-boi Jun 24 '26

Uh oh, you said something positive, careful mate. Only doomposting gets upvoted round here haha.

1

u/Crossovertriplet Jun 24 '26

I don’t care what these perpetually negative cry babies do to my worthless karma

1

u/StillALilBoy Jun 24 '26

that i don't doubt, just wish it didn't come with a free nonconsensual bukkake over consumers face

8

u/ShroomlyJenkins Jun 24 '26

Guns and cars are not cosmetics, they are core part of the GTA gameplay. If you can obtain them via other means in the game then fine, but I'd find that hard to believe considering they are charging 33% more for it.

2

u/oblivion-boi Jun 24 '26

Slip of the tongue (or finger?) when I said cosmetics, I know about the guns etc. Doesn't really change my opinion though tbh, RDR2 had horses and even missions for the ultimate editions (Which I think is kinda worse than this actually). Many, many games have dlc weapons included in pre-order bonuses and whatnot.

Like I've said elsewhere, I'm not even defending the fact that its a bit shit. I just think the reaction is a bit overblown because games have been doing this for many years, but because this is GTA and Rockstar, all of a sudden the sky is falling.

shops, stores and locations...

8

u/Ruthrfurd-the-stoned Jun 24 '26

This is the real kicker

1

u/Cjm092 Jun 24 '26

Meaningless cosmetics don't matter, you know

1

u/BeatHunter Jun 24 '26

I hope when you go to open them, the game has a pop up asking your to subscribe for deluxe edition.

-5

u/ItsAPeacefulLife Jun 24 '26

Just like any other special edition of a game, there's extra cosmetics for extra price.

-2

u/ACrask Jun 24 '26

Actually it’s more like they advertised you a full pizza. You bought the pizza at full price, but you only get 70% of it, unless you give them another $20. My point is they have a full game and cut it into pieces to sell it to you more than once.

2

u/Dittymaker Jun 24 '26

Horrible analogy, they are advertising a $80 pizza and for an extra $20 you can add premium toppings. Nothing here is deceptive
