I used to do janitorial stuff. The people who are owning the airbnbs can handle cleanup, trust me. They just seriously, genuinely don't want to and want to pass it off to the person renting, even if the person cleaned it up perfectly. If the owner is renting out multiple homes, well that's simply their problem now isn't it?

Hotels won't have you be worried about hidden cameras and insane fees, retaliation for reviews and whatnot.

Maybe they are allergic to doing this kind of labor because it makes them feel like how having an actual job is like.

Also seems like they're in a huge rush to turn the place over and they're making you part of their relay race.

They got rid of a really cute cottage where I live that had the appearance of a magical story book home and turned it into a brutalist piece of shit. They're all starting to look the same over here too.

Yup. They want you out in the morning and a new renter in that afternoon.

> it makes them feel like how having an actual job is like

This is supposed to be a passive income!

It's so insane to me that people went into this thinking that there wouldn't be an element of housekeeping involved on their part. It's going to happen at one point or another whether they like it or not.

People are lazy and and they want to do very little while making a lot of money. That’s the whole motive behind “passive income”. When people got into Airbnb hosting shit, they got greedy and try to push more work to guests.

This is why I always check host reviews. Have dodged many "professional airbnb" nightmares this way. Have stayed at some genuinely cool places owned by families that don't nickel and dime you or ask you to do unreasonable chores before you leave.

Still, only worth it in sizeable groups. Otherwise hotel all the way.

It's understandable when it's for a family for sure. So many people thought that this would be an excellent way to make income and not lift a finger to do a single thing. Honestly? After all the privacy invasions that I have read about I'm surprised that people still want to even do this at all.

I like it bc I can find places cheaper than hotels with a kitchen and multiple rooms.

Those fees are figured into their annual profits. Can't have any budget shortfalls at the end of the year!! /S

Hotels won't have you be worried about hidden cameras

This is the number one reason I won't book airbnbs anymore. Never an issue with hotels.

It's so scary! I would like to be cringe privately!

Usually only the very very under-priced airbnb's ask you to do dishes, which I will still take over paying a premium.

And once when I clarified with the owner what he means by "washing dishes" and cleanup requirements, he says that those extreme rules were set in place to prevent party'ers from trashing the place. And as long as I leave the home in a reasonable condition, the cleaning-person will take care of the rest. And washing the dishes would be appreciated but not the end of the world if I don't.

It's like I kept saying: If you're going into a business where housekeeping is an element of it then don't be surprised if it is a part of the job. Like, the fees are ridiculous and it's not just the lower end airbnbs that pull this too.

Is it nice that a person keeps up after themselves? Sure is, I do when I rent a hotel room. But I won't expect a person to leave the place without some kid of thing that requires cleaning at some point in the future.

If a person doesn't have time to clean the Airbnb if they can't have a service to do it, they probably shouldn't be renting it out in the first place.

Again, from my experience, these rules were deliberately made extreme to avoid party'ers and people that trash the place. As long as you are reasonable with the cleanup, it won't be an issue.

Or if the Airbnb is extremely under market value. Which was the case once, the host said he can only do very basic cleanup himself because the Airbnb was very cheap, which was true and I agree with him and still went with it.

That's not the case over here, though. And like I said, once again- if you're going into a business that involves housekeeping, don't be surprised that it involves housekeeping. These are very basic skills.

How about literally allergic? I manage an airbnb listing for an owner with a severe food allergy. Asking the guests to wash their own dishes in a self catering property without a cleaning charge is a reasonable request.

That's what we call a you problem and it isn't an excuse for you guys to ruin my neighborhood and other people's neighborhoods, contributing to a score of local problems. You also aren't entitled to the free labor of someone else when you are already getting hundreds of dollars from them in the first place.

I'm sure a lot of you people are going to come up with a litany of reasons why you won't keep up on the condition of the houses that YOU bought. If someone is working a service that deals with housekeeping then you're going to be exposed to chemicals and that is on you for your lack of foresight. Any job that involves taking care of guests will always involve some form of cleaning.

I'm glad to see that you guys get screwed over in this way because your allergies mean nothing to me when I see families losing their houses because they get kicked out by you people. And with the unstable economy now? I'm not going to feel bad here, I simply just can't. Wear the the proper gear if you must, I have asthma and an allergic reaction to latex and I still managed to do it with nylon gear and a mask if necessary. You are responsible for your own equipment.

Cry about it some more because it's falling on deaf ears.

Edit: there is literally so much shit out there made for people with allergies. I stated my allergies above. It is crazy to think that if you are going to be working a business where you are renting out to guests that it wasn't conceived that cleaning would be a part of this job.

Hows the view up there on your self righteous high horse? You know nothing of me or the property, it is totally unsuitable for a single long term tenant. It's not in your neighbourhood or anyone else’s.

8

u/inque-wings 4h ago

I'd say my view is really awesome from up here because I'm not contributing to rising property costs and homelessness in my area.

Mythical airbnb with no cleaning charge

If there is something they can’t do, they should pay someone a fair wage to do it. That’s how capitalism works. If you want free labor, go to China.
