The point is that I’d like to avoid places with weird rules in the first place, rather than giving them 1 star reactively

Doesn't AirBnB let the customer rate first, then the property owner? If you rate the property low you'll certainly get a low customer rating. As a single transaction that's not a problem but if you are a frequent user of the service it could create challenges for future renting.

I don’t believe each can see the others rating until they both have done it.
