Like stripping the bed and pillows of the sheets and emptying the trash is so fucking bullshit when you’re already paying to stay there

But then they also have the audacity to charge a hefty cleaning fee.

If it’s so time consuming to drag out trash it’s not really reasonable to ask guests to do it. And if it’s quick it shouldn’t matter.

My favourite was a bigger apartment complex where the host showed me where to take the trash. I was staying for like 2 nights so I wasn't gonna need multiple trips. But by showing me, he wasted his time showing me, and wasted my time both while showing me and by asking me to do it at the end of my trip. He could have just emptied that goddamn bin when I left with the same effort.

The trash goes in the hallway one floor up or one floor down, and hopefully the neighbours complain about the illegal property use.

My first and only Air B&B stay had taking out the trash and stripping the beds as “house rules.” And I had a full Don Draper-in-the-elevator moment when my companion mentioned it. (That’s what the money is for!!!) The place was dirty, the floors were warped, and they had a dog that wandered around unleashed who pooped everywhere. I literally stepped in dog shit within an hour of checking in. (All I can say is that the guy was lucky I wasn’t the person who booked because I would have tore them up in a review.)

I don't even mind stripping the bed, and leaving the pile by the bed. Hotels ask that you pile used towels on the floor. It's a bit similar. I don't mind putting my dishes in the dishwasher. I don't like the smells of food and dishes in the sink. But I'd better have a very cheap cleaning fee if I'm doing all that. But I've had places that required me to either wash and make the full beds or bring my own bedding, vacuum (including under the couch, and they will check and charge extra if you don't), spray down the garbage disposal with Lysol, and make sure all sinks and shower drain catches are free from hair, debris, crumbs, etc. Because the hosts only pay for cleaners every two weeks, and they had to come clean when they were booked up. Sounds like you own a business that requires a little work, Mary.

Hotels do not ask that you pile used towels on the floor.

Hotels say if you hang your towels they won't be replaced and you can reduce the environmental cost.

Your experience is not everyone’s experience. I’ve stayed in several hotels that asked this. Sorry that makes you upset.

Not to mention some places using those tiny sized residential garbage cans and expecting you to cart out the rest if it doesn't fit.
