I just booked an upcoming stay with Vrbo and its exactly the same. $150 mandatory charge for cleaning yet the house rules say that we have to do the dishes, bring our own sheets for the beds, bring the garbage to the dump and the recycling to another location on top of cleaning before leaving. Huge regret now. They only let me know this 4 days before getting the rental place and by then I have already paid in full and cannot cancel.its over $1k for just two nights. Greasy as fuck. This is my first and hopefully last time booking with them.

Just had to do this in a home for 14 people, they had waterproof mattress protector covers but no sheets, hand towels, pillow cases, or towels. It was marketed to families and I get they are saving costs but it definitely added a packing burden for travel, a whole extra bag just for bedding!

The point is they don't tell you you need that until after the free cancellation is over and it's too late to find something else

I have to ask, were there truly 0 affordable hotel/ motel options in the area? Do you plan to go to some super remote area where there are single digit alternatives? I’m not trying to shame you or make fun of you. I would really appreciate the story on how this became the most reasonable option for your trip.

I imagine it was a huge house with a ton of rooms or prime location next to a beach or something. Otherwise even a fancy hotel would have been half the price.

You have never been required to do anything that is not in the original rental agreement. You can straight say fuck it to anything they request after booking.

If it’s the last time using the app just do the absolute minimum and take the poor review from the host without justifying them charging an additional fee. Absolutely no way in hell I am taking garbage or recycling any further than right outside the building while paying 500 a night. Not providing sheets or saying anything when booking has to be violating a rule somewhere, that is completely unreasonable. What if you don’t have the right size sheet? You need to go buy one for single use? Fuck that

I feel like VRBO is even m ore scummy then AirBnb, I booked one in Europe th is year and didn't read the small print until the day before I got there. Turns out there was a $1500 damage deposit I had to send to send real sketchy service that's not even part of VRBO, and then beg for t hem to send it back after I checked out, because of course they couldn't just give it back. It took over two weeks to get it back.

Never again will I book vrbo

Contact VRBO as you may be able to get out of that. They should have had all that info on listing.

What are they going to to if you don’t do it? You’ve already paid for cleaning charge. They’ll ban you from the property next time? There won’t be a next time given the terrible experience. They’ll complain to Vrbo? Take photo of reasonably clean environment before leaving and send to Vrbo if they complain. Worst case scenario issue a charge back against the excess fee and book hotel next time.

Are you sure you have to comply? Usually you only have to do what's in the listing or they're breaching
