Its about 5 years late haha. We once had a host call us screaming because we piled the dirty towels in the bathtub instead of washing and drying them.

Right around then I started searching hotels before airbnb's whenever I travelled.

Large groups still benefit for an Airbnb, but otherwise I'm in a hotel. Even if it costs a little extra - its so much less work.

I used to be a total AirBnB stan, up until about last year when I finally had a terrible host experience compared to an awesome hotel save. I booked an AirBnB in a quiet neighborhood near my sister’s place thinking it would be nice to walk my dog over there in the mornings, but as soon as I got the confirmation info, the host was calling me from a ‘scam likely’ number. They proceeded to give me long-winded instructions that amounted to ‘the door is unlocked and the key is on the table’ and were there when I arrived to go over those crucial details again, all while I just wanted to go inside and decompress from my road trip. Then I get inside and there’s notes on literally every surface, the ‘one bedroom’ guest suite is a converted garage that is really a studio and there’s no towels, no products in the shower and no coffee. Oh and bonus, the host is still there and letting their rude little white dog endlessly yap at my shepherd sitting at my side, and they have the audacity to tell me to ‘make sure he doesn’t bark’.

Yeah no. I cancelled, went to a hotel and had checked in by the time it took for the host to realize I wasn’t going to stay. Airbnb took their sweet time refunding me, and only partially, but the hotel was a much better experience and my dog literally got his own bed with treats on it as a turn down service and got to play with a much friendlier crowd of dogs at the hotel park, so he rated it 5/5.

How can a grumpy boomer host with no amenities compete with that? Not well, apparently.

Yeah the switchover was definitely about 5 years ago when hotels became the better option

This friendly French lady last year - totally hanging out and all that shit.

1 star review. Like - you could just fuck off and give me a 1 star review. So betrayed.
