About time.

If I wasn’t trying to book a stay for 8 people or whatever, I would never play lodging roulette 😢🔫

Larger groups is pretty much the only reason I would consider an airbnb.

If you can find a good one then it’s better for extended stays in my opinion. I just spent 9 days in one in Rome recently and those hosts were great luckily. Plus we could do laundry and pick up some groceries.

Given how expensive AirBnBs have gotten, even putting bullshit like this aside, what advantage do they provide when trying to book for 8 that a hotels/motels don't?

everyone in the same house instead of 4 different hotel rooms

It’s extremely nice having a shared lodge/house if you have a big group. Many common areas, kitchen, patio, private pool, etc.

Privacy is also appreciated, especially if you are celebrating something like a bachelor party.

You can also usually find something cheaper than a hotel once the group gets big enough.

Common areas both inside and outside the unit, I regularly book Airbnb or similar when planning family vacations or birthday parties for 8-12 people

I want a communal kitchen, large living room, and an area we can all relax in, bonus points if they have a hot tub, or backyard pool, this makes large trips much more memorable than having to split up into 8 different hotel rooms, especially when you’re dealing with kids from multiple parents who want to hangout with each other.

Much easier to let them wake up and play together in the communal living room rather than having to shuttle them over to someone else’s cramped hotel room.

Airbnb definitely has its downsides compared to hotels, but is still unmatched when doing large gatherings.

Large shared common spaces to share with your friends, full kitchens, usually a grill and/or fire pit outside. The options for shared entertainment are much better. Me and my college friends get together once a year at a location that is as central as possible to all of us that live 6-8 hours apart, it's a nice option if you have large groups, but if it's less than 4-6 people I've switched back to hotels.

You can't smoke a turkey at a motel, or have a proper sit down meal. Hell, you can't even seat more than two people in most hotel rooms.

My family does a thanksgiving-ish gathering every year sometime before/after the holiday near where one of us lives. AirBnB/VRBO/whatever are the only way it would possibly work.

I almost always use hotels but we stayed in an AirBNB once recently because it was a 5 min walk to our family's home and having the kitchen was a big deal. It saved us a lot of money to be able to make meals. Most hotel rooms don't even have a microwave, some don't come with a fridge.
