It’s not the front end you gotta worry about, or even the back end. The programming is the easy part, it’s the infrastructure needed that’s hard. EXABYTES of data to store. The PETABYTES ADDED DAILY. That’s what stops a new platform from taking off.

(For reference, a single exabyte is 1,000,000 Terabytes.)

Just vibe code a more advanced compression algorithm that is also lossless for quality. Make sure to add “make no mistakes” to your prompt for ultimate efficacy! Turn those PBs into GBs!

Instead of storing the videos, just use AI to turn the video into keywords, then use another AI to recreate the video from those keywords. No mass storage needed, just the glorious AI misinterpretation and hallucination oroboros. You can do it for the comment section too.

Lossfull compression

Hmm, in hindsight seems like not a bad idea. Wouldn't be really surprised if something like this comes true

It’s really not that hard if you have optimal tip-to-tip efficiency.

Middle out?

It's quite literally happening. Silicon Valley called this shit ahead of its time, A.I. and compression were the big themse from the show. I just finished a rewatch last year, and it's crazy how much they got right with the future. Such a different watch with today's lens.

We are moving closer to the meme of "download more RAM" becoming a reality.

Now we’re talkin!

Then run it again and turn those GBs into MBs! *enhance, enhance, enhance!*

Yeah, I got a 16 TB solid state drive for 59$. Now weirdly, I can't install games larger than 64GB...

An important fact people don't seem to realize is that YouTube itself couldn't even handle the infrastructure needed. Pre-google, they were absolutely hemorrhaging money trying to keep up with no hope of becoming profitable. Google offering to buy it is the only reason it survived, and even they struggled for years to make it profitable.

The best time to start is today, the time will pass to allow it to expand

distributed systems can work fine

It's a good thing machine learning is on the precipice of better compression. It's funny because Silicon Valley was fucking right about a decentralized internet, and where we're moving. The increasing police state has fueled the opposite side fervently to break away from the grips of corporations controlling our communications. It's been interesting watching it play out the last couple of years.

There is prior art, though, that means we shouldn't dismiss a desire to solve this problem. Like, decentralized networks like IPFS (the "interplanetary file system") are mature examples of groundwork that suggest we can rethink this issue a bit. I wish we all could choose to explore what is possible or what past attempts have been made, whenever we start to feel powerless.

The internet being built as a series of service providers with large cap tables... it is not the only way.

It's not that either, it's getting a userbase of 2.7 billion users. Good luck.

exactly. I never had big issues with odysee, but there's literally nothing on there compared to that shit tube

The way to do it would be to not store everything forever. Anything which doesn't get significant views recently gets deleted after 90 days. There's massive numbers of small channels which never do significant numbers and lots of content which only gets short term engagement.
