They already remove it right? Am I in the past timeline?

Only on Shorts. Videos can still receive dislikes.

But it doesn’t show how many dislikes a video has unless you have an extension to do it.

And hasn’t for many years now, sadly.

They want people thinking every contribution and comment matters and is important. That's what keeps people coming back: thinking they matter.

When people share shitty content and shitty opinions and are rightly called out for it, they may be less likely to use the platform or click on videos with poor feedback.

I don't like it anymore than anyone else. Shame needs to come back. Hell, I'll even pay a little for shame to come back. It's one of the reasons I still use Reddit.

Reddit's system is such garbage but I agree it's still better.

Yep. It's as simple as high down votes reducing watch time. See high down votes? Probably not going to try that at all, so they removed those. Put a down vote on something? Probably stopped watching at that point and moved on, so they want to reduce that. Meanwhile, comments add even more "content " and engagement, and they're still on the video during it, going back to the video if people respond...

There's a reason creators want likes and comments, and don't even care if the comments are "good". See also all the: "Everyone comment this exact thing!"

That and to protect the poor little corporations advertising from being bullied.

unless you have an extension to do it.

the extension is bullshit and only tracks other users downvote, it gives a general idea but definitely not even CLOSE to an actual downvote count.

That doesn't show you how many dislikes a video has, either.

The way those addons and extensions work is they track how their userbase votes on a video, and uses those stats to extrapolate a dislike number. But the voting habits of people who get addons to see dislike numbers, and your average user, are NOT the same.

The numbers those addons report are resoundingly inaccurate. There's literally no point in using them.

Copy the "shorts" ID and paste on the end of

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

Now you can downvote it.

You are likely thinking of the dislike count, which was removed years ago. Since then, the number of dislikes on a video is hidden for viewers (but creators can still see it)

This article is about the dislike button, so you wouldn't be able to dislike a video at all, even for creators to see

They removed the ability to see how downvoted something was. You could hit the button though, for its internal contextualization.

Something about getting radioed hurts watch time.

Yes, but if you change the "/shorts/" to "/watch?" you'll get taken to the normal video version of the page where the thumbs up and down buttons still exist.
