So I printed and painted this little guy! I'm really happy with how it turned out. I wanted to show it off a bit.

It's 3.3 inches across and .25 inches thick.

Resin 3D printed on an Anycubic Mono M7 Max and hand painted by me.

The model is by Martin on Printables. Though the event horizon was custom by me using a water surface from a Warhammer mini base which I don't remember the source of, to be frank.

Always great to see Stargate DVDs in my local library. A true public service.

This shot really caught me off guard. I don't think we had many "sequences" like this in the entire show, right?

Rant SG-1 Season 7 Heroes

Oh. If you know, you know. If you don't, stop reading.

One of those episodes in the series that I have seen numerous times. An episode I am well aware that's going to happen the moment I start the first season. Yet every rewatch I put myself through it and it hurts every time. I know it's just a TV show and a fictional character, but for some reason this one stuck with me for years. Still there today.

We miss you Janet.

Missed opportunities in the Stargate franchise

• Upvotes

I think the episodes like Atlantis s03e10 with the real alive Ancients are such a missed opportunity. A huge one, but I feel like there are dozens of missed opportunities throughout the whole franchise.
What is your “favorite” missed opportunity?

Throwaway lines you wish were explored more

For me season 8, episode 18, "Threads" where Daniel asks about the ascended not helping.

DANIEL: Why not? Who are they?

OMA: Others. You're not one of them yet.

DANIEL: You mean Ancients.

OMA: A couple of them.

That line "A couple of them." had me so curious about who all these other ascended were? Where they came from? who was the first ascended?

REWATCH who leaked the x-302 to the russians?

rewatching season 6 episode 1 redemption, it's the first Jonas episode after s5e21 meridian.

about 10 minutes into the episode Major Carter gives jonas plans to the x-302. then after that scene, jonas and Teal'c are boxing/sparring..... lunchtime with O'Neill ...... then about 15 minutes into the episode Col. Chekov, seemingly furious, yells at Major Carter and jonas in the corridor.

so when/where did Chekov did get the x-302 plans?

is Jonas the leak?

Shanks was so excited to come back. Hearing him talk about how the writers could pull it off is so true. Amazon sucks.
Also has the host, David Reed, been in the tv business?

Wild Stargate Stargate mentioned in latest Some More News episode.

Sam Altman's data centre, 'Stargate', in Abliene, Texas, will be as big as Central Park. Because he either misunderstood that Stargate is about arrogant tech lords trying to convince people they're gods, or he understood it too well.

If that wasn't just a perfect description of the Go'auld.

At 31:30 in the video.

The presentation image I used before (the table with crayons etc) was in fact contaminated with AI, unbeknownst to me. Thanks to u/Vladishun and u/LeetModule for finding it. Here's a new version I photographed myself -- it's night here so the artificial light is somewhat flat.

Discussion SG-1 Episodes where Jack is…dumber than usual.

We are watching SG-1 for the first time time and have noticed that every once in a while Jack plays significantly dumber and more combative, especially when Carter or Daniel explain academic topics. I was curious if anyone else knew if certain episode writers were more likely to write Jack this way compared to others and if anyone else has noticed it. Thanks!

Any concept for a new show will be heavily criticised by fans

• Upvotes

SG1 was unique, and it was a product of its time. Atlantis was mostly just more of the same, so it's also well loved. Universe got mixed reactions for trying to be darker and more like BSG, and honestly most of the time it felt more like a political drama with some Stargate mixed in than the other way around.

After a long break, a new show got announced, then canned, and then Gero was brought in for another attempt. His show was also scrapped and now they're trying a third time, because the IP is still seen as lucrative.

There have been a lot of opinions, suggestions, etc and the reality is that it costs a lot to make a show nowadays, and they need to not only recoup those costs, but make profit as well. Existing fans won't like a full reboot, new fans won't be drawn in if there's too much existing lore. The sad truth is that they need both groups on board to really make it profitable.

Let's talk about the concept of a reboot and why execs love it - they can utilise the IP and existing concepts, but they're not tied to previous stories, characters or even lore. A reboot isn't bogged down by 'outdated' designs, agreements, and it avoids other in-universe limitations, such as power creep, characters who were killed off, the need to be episodic, etc. A pilot episode can target a new audience, and most existing fans will at least give it a try. Rebooting also means they already have some stories they can re-tell in a more modern way and others they can basically re-use with minor alterations. There's no real need to have cameos, but it's still possible to slip them in, subtly or otherwise.

Now let's talk about how a 'modernised' reboot can be made palatable to existing fans - re-using familiar elements (music, props, etc) can always be done, as can telling familiar stories. Adding elements that have happened in the real world since then (9/11, Covid-19, AI, etc) doesn't need shoehorning or plot gimmicks, making it feel more natural. Re-introducing certain iconic elements (eg devices, enemies or politics) can really lean into the nostalgia, and if cleverly written, can bring additional depth and answer some questions. A 'soft reboot', such as Martin Gero had planned allows for all of these, but including any aspect of the original adds lore that can create extra challenges.

Finally, let's talk about why people get upset at certain ideas - we didn't get any solid info about Gero's scripts, just a vague overview, and some people jumped to the conclusion that it's not their ideal solution, so it must be bad. Jac Schaeffer is known for something quite different and not recognised as an existing fan / linked to the original shows. Social media is designed to be polarising, and it creates echo chambers, so less extreme opinions such as 'wait and see' get drowned out. Most fans have positive memories of the original content and largely negative memories of all the attempts to reboot beloved shows lately. Really, that adds up to a heavy bias against anything new.

The community was almost universally in support of Gero's show after it was cancelled, when no information was available. It's clear that the fans want more Stargate, and my hope is that everyone will understand it can't be like the original, that it needs to be something new. I don't think a 'soft reboot' was a bad idea, but I also understand why it was concerning to the execs. I'm confident that Jac Schaeffer can write a script the execs will be happy with, and is still an enjoyable show, just as I was with Martin Gero and Brad Wright before that. I'm aware of the modern formula for shows, but I'm going to wait and see how it pans out, and remain supportive of any attempt to bring the franchise back.

What happens if you jump into a Stargate lying flat on the ground?

In Stargate SG-1 S2E14 (Touchstone), the NID agents escape through a Stargate lying flat on the ground. They all jump into it from roughly the same direction, at similar angles, but with different kinds of jumps.

Unfortunately, we never see them land on the other side, so we can't tell what actually happened to them.

This got me thinking about how movement and orientation work when travelling through a Stargate.

When Jack O'Neill jumps through a Stargate while escaping, he comes out on the other side continuing the same jumping motion he had when entering. Projectiles also pass through the gate, and the trinium arrow that hits Jack doesn't simply lose its momentum.

However, most examples of objects travelling through a Stargate involve fairly straightforward, forward-moving trajectories. We don't really know whether momentum is preserved equally in all three spatial dimensions, or whether the Stargate somehow treats forward movement differently from sideways or rotational movement.

Milky Way Stargates also have a defined orientation: the final chevron is at the top, in the middle.

In Stargate Atlantis' Thirty-Eight Minutes, a Puddle Jumper gets stuck halfway through a Stargate because one of its drive pods hasn't retracted properly and catches on the gate's frame. McKay explains: “We've shed all our forward momentum.” The Jumper doesn't simply continue through while physically stuck.

And when Puddle Jumpers use the Stargate floating in space to reach Atlantis, they approach it in a consistent orientation so they arrive correctly oriented in the Atlantis hangar.

So what would happen if someone jumped into a Stargate lying flat on the ground?

Would they emerge maintaining their original orientation and trajectory? Would the Stargate's own orientation affect how they exit? Or does the wormhole preserve some components of movement differently from others?

Since we never see the NID agents arrive on the other side, I don't think the episode gives us a definitive answer. I'm curious whether there's anything else in canon that could help narrow down the possibilities.

Request The end of the Goa'uld

In season 6, or perhaps toward the end of season 5, there is an episode in which it is mentioned that the Tok'ra have discovered why the Goa'uld are no longer increasing in number. Is this actually explained, or has it been forgotten in the writing, leaving us with nothing more than vague hypotheses?

Ps: not sure if the flair is right
