Generational indoctrination

I've been saying this very thing about charismatic and evangelical Christianity for over 15 years. There's a damn good reason fascists and grifters alike have aligned themselves with these groups, and it's because they've had four or five generations of continuous affirmation and reaffirmation of cult programming.

People often dismiss me when I tell them that a surprising number of the folks they see praying in tongues and practicing faith healing are educated. People with bachelors degrees, Masters, PHds, JDs, and MDs, local government officials, school board members, teachers, nurses - the people who make society work, believe in this stuff whole heartedly. Folks who dismiss this cannot fathom that otherwise reasonable and intelligent people are practitioners of something so irrational because they've never experienced it first hand.

That's what makes this so scary. It's not what they think or feel or even believe, they know they're right and they're you're wrong, and they'll burn down the world to prove it.
