I didn't know much about Lieberman when he was Al Gore's running mate in 2000 (really, I doubt anybody knew that much about him unless they were deep-dish politics nerds, or from Connecticut).

When I did become learn more about him, none of it was good. Bill Maher wore out his welcome with me long ago, but he did have a good line about Lieberman. Maher said "If you like George W. Bush but you just don't think he's Jewish enough, Lieberman is your guy." I get the impression that when Bush's connections in Florida and the Supreme Court stole the 2000 election for him, Lieberman was the main voice in the Gore camp insisting that he should not fight it.

Lieberman and Palin are like two moldy dinner rolls. You don't stand there in the kitchen trying to decide which one is a little better. They go in the trash.

As someone from CT, I may be biased but Lieberman was a long-time piece of shit. I agree with prior poster that he would've been a better pick in comparison to Palin but only because she was at the time an unprecidentedly inept and unqualified pick. Either pick would have disqualified Mccain for me, though.

At the time I was next door in Massachusetts and I still didn't hear that much about him until 2000 and after.

that was my understanding of it from paying attention at that time yes. like manchin as far as being the poison pill a whole bunch of times. neither quite as wildly out of control in that regard as fetterman but your point stands.
