You don't need to be so abstract about it. Hitler was put into power (the Nazis never got a majority of votes, just a plurality, they never had to be in power) because conservatives thought they'd be able to control him.

Those conservatives aren't doing it in the US today though, but there's a political dynasty that's been weirdly adjacent for about a century, alongside a think tank that's been front and center for four decades.

Trump became their candidate for president (three times). And even Democrats (who had absorbed enough conservatives during the 90s to win Clinton the presidency) were all in favour of Trump because they thought he'd be easier to beat than a more generic modern Republican candidate.

As for lebowskiachiever12's question, "How did they not understand this would be the outcome?", the answer is simply that it may be a fresh paint-job over it but it's the same hubris underneath. Thinking they can control a far-right populist to their benefit because they are "smarter" than him and then a few years later wondering where it all went wrong :/

I mean... you're not saying anything wrong, but it seems more abstract, being a concept of repeated hubris by different people, though of same minds, across time, than what I was saying about a specific US family and tightly associated organization repeatedly working with Nazis.

And I do think for some, there is a slight difference. The Heritage Foundation was at the ground floor of Russia's restructuring post-Soviet collapse, with an office in Moscow, and worked with government leadership to administer "economic shock therapy", which was to basically mass privatize as much as possible into the hands of a few.

They've allied themselves with groups that seek to collapse the US, and have even been shouting it proudly for years. Peter Thiel, before even being on the Yarvin train, wasn't shy about PayPal existing to topple the USD and push the dominant currency to something private, but now none of them are shy about wanting to carve up the country into privately owned nation states.

Heritage wants something more, something closer to Russia, their prototype, but the next big converging goal between some of the worst and wealthiest people on the planet is at least the economic collapse of the US, and someone horribly out of control like Trump is the path they've chosen, on purpose. They don't want to control him, they want to "move fast and break things", and get rich as fuck along the way to better purchase this country out from us.

This is not exactly true. The way the Weimar system worked is that the largest party got appointed by the president. The NSDAP was by far the largest party in 1933 without who no government could realistically be formed. Hindenburg and his guys didn't want to do it, but they literally had no choice given the circumstances and they thought that by "alinging" themselves with the winners aka with the Nazis they can control them by inserting their own people into the first Nazi government. Obviously it didn't work that way. Hitler took power, his popularity skyrocketed even more, Hindenburg died and Hitler basically ostracized and removed anyone who didn't pledge fealty and most of the influential people with capital were either put in camps, had their companies taken away or forced to work for the Nazis in the space of a year.
