Veilguard was astronomically bad but I couldn't measure how much. Turns out it was bad enough to sink a 3-decades studio

funny how back then you couldnt give valid criticism about the game on reddit for obvious political reasons and astroturfing and now everyone just shits on it

the tourists left

Tourist is a weird word. The tourists are the people who don't actively live in the fandom / community.

bruh the people who only hate veilguard for obvious political reasons ARE the tourists. Real ones know it hasn't been dragon age since DA2

EDIT: you can downvote me all you want, I’m still right. Baldur’s Gate 3 was the true DA:O sequel and you could make every character LGBT with whatever pronouns your hearts desire 🥲

The difference is, BG3 focused on being a good game first and foremost. Not trashing it's own script to push an agenda.

I agree. I’m not defending Veilguard, I’m saying it was just another notch on the list of disappointing Dragon Age sequels that would’ve been just as bad without the political stuff and the people who only shit on it for their own political reasons are the tourists. BG3 is what a modern Dragon Age game should have looked like

So you agree that the problem with Veilguard is not gay characters but obnoxiously shitty writing, and Baldurs Gate 3 worked better. That is what the dan4332 is getting at.

The game was shit, but it's valid to say a certain group of people clowned on it from afar for a single, overtly bad scene. If it had just been badly written, it would've blown over. But because it's badly written AND gay, it's the greatest disaster of all time.

It's all rather moot because every Dragon Age game after the first one sucked massive donkey balls. Veilguard is cynically corporate "everyone is friends" marvel crap, and it somehow still has more personality than Inquisition.

NeverKnowsBest covered how quickly the Dragon Age franchise moved away from its grim dark roots as a "friend focused" game. It's really baffling. The first game is fucking great.

I wish all those people defending it would realize that their cause is only getting hurt with all of that. Good writing with characters that aren’t obnoxious caricatures is the kind of representation that actually makes a positive impact. Doubling down on garbage, and attacking people for criticizing it only pushes many people in the opposite direction. Who wins in that situation?

Then again this is nothing new, and I get the impression that many of them enjoy the process of feeling they are morally superior, and using it as an excuse to be miserable and hateful in a “justified” way.

It happens with a lot of things, people will just double down and defend absolute trash. Not even saying they enjoy it, which is fine. Just denying all the flaws, doubling down on every horrible choice.

people still blame all faults on EA, not bioware for some reason lmao. I hate EA, but Bioware had full creative authority on dragon age veilguard and that horrendous pile of political bullcrap they call "return to form". what a joke.

It was rather convenient how almost every journalist reviewing it used "return to form" repeatedly for Veilguard of all games. Either they were given a script or copy-pasting each other.

Everyone has shit on it on Reddit the entire time. I don't think I have seen popular sentiment in favour of it. At most some people praise the combat as being pretty fun but that's about the only positivity I've seen on Reddit lol.

You weren't on r/dragonage at launch then. Took like 2-3 months for the consensus to admit it was terrible and flopped hard.

That’s very untrue, people were criticizing veilguard heavily as it should have been. The only dumb thing is when people assume it’s bad only because of political reasons, and not simply because it was cringe-inducing, very poorly written and despite its marketing was in no way a “return to form” for Dragon Age

I'd argue that the first ten hours and especially last 10 to 20 hours are really really good. Anyway on reddit most people that talked trash about the game did not play it, and it showed.

I’ll admit I played it for like an hour before refunding it on Steam. But it was marketed as this return for Dragon Age and as someone who really only ever liked Origins, my issue with it was, as it was with every Dragon Age sequel, that they refused to even try to do something like that again

It's really strange how every sequel to that franchise fails to capture the spirit of the first game.

But the games journalists all promised us in unison that it's a "spectacular return to form" for Bioware.

Seriously.

Anyone who still believes game reviewers after the glazing they gave to one of the worst games I've ever played needs their head checked.
