which is a great time to shut it down and burn it to the ground. lets keep humans employed and in charge. at least we a have chance of holding them accountable.
These people can't see even 1 year in to the future. Like yes, let's stop all progress so then foreign countries blow North America and Europe out of the water in terms of progress. If it were up to these people, we'd still be pulling farm equipment around by hand just to keep people employed. Sound familiar?
You two are so clueless it's painful. We literally legislated NUCLEAR WEAPONS across the whole world; thinking that we should just keep throwing money at grifters to develop technology most people don't need in their lives (not to mention dumb comparison with actually useful tools like farm equipment) is just hilarious.
But.. we didnt? The people we don't want having nuclear weapons either have nuclear weapons or are building them. Its just a treaty and if you dont agree with it you just build em.
You can legislate that corporations need to clear all the data they have trained on without permissions otherwise they will pay huge penalties. Make it retroactive. It's not that hard.
"How would you stop slavery? You simply can't stop it so prepare to live in a world with it." - this is how your argument would sound few centuries ago. If people thought changes were impossible no one would ever do something meaningful.
It’s too late for that. Looking into more sustainable ways of utilizing ai is the only way forward. Advocating against the global use of ai is a waste of your lifespan
Employment is usually like life sentence. You're so brainwashed by capitalism you want us to do jobs lol. Only a tiny % of people would still work despite not needing to. I guess some can't handle freedom, and have 0 personal interests/passion. People should still be responsible, but AI can make certain tasks much more efficient and basic planning a bit more streamlined. It can also completely remove certain aspects of work in a reasonable and understandable fashion. It is only a tool.
Also, if it ends up killing us all...it is only a side-effect. What is killing is our need for more. You are very likely using more energy and resources than the average person, probably a lot more if you are from the EU or Amercian. I defintely use more than the average person. AI is merely a symptom of bigger problems. The environmental stuff going on has little to do with what AI has done recently.
I would actually be fine with being unemployed if there was a plan on increasing my quality of life while being unemployed. Unfortunately there isn’t such plan so getting unemployed can get you into a pretty bad state so it’s normal to fear unemployment.
What I’m trying to say, the world didn’t prepare for having humans unemployed as a normal state. That’s the real issue. Just unemployment by itself under certain circumstances can be a blessing. We people just didn’t think of it really, or more so, the owners of the world didn’t think of it. They planned to use us all the available time as much as possible.
That's some backwards thinking. Our end goal as a society should be that noone has to work ever again. And people have all the free time they want to practice their favourite sport, do arts and crafts or other fun stuff. Every job AI takes will be a win to society. We just have to figure out what to do with all the unemployed people. Would not even be that hard. If we could stop giving all the money in the world to the already top 200 richest people on earth, that would be a good start.
You are contradicting yourself by saying me should embrace ai but stop giving the richest people on earth our money. Who do you think is gaining money and power in the ai boom. Lmao.
“We just need to figure out what to do with unemployed people”
Yeah that sounds like a foolproof plan you got there.
Is blockchain, crypto, nfts also something everyone of your family has probably heard of and even used themselves atleast once? Great comparison, it must take the same route!
Another playing dumb, oh well.
Okay I'll make it short: 49% of American adults have used an AI chat bot atleast once so far in 2026 according to pew research. Is that comparable to the other named tech?
Yes? Do you seriously think Crypto is some kind of Niche unknown tech or something? Your grandma has probably heard of Bitcoin lol. There wee tons of ads for it, stadiums got renamed after crypto companies. Again, there were crypto superbowl commercials.
Were you in a coma for the last 10 years or something?
serious question, are you mentally slow? you’re drawing a connection between a
glorified pyramid scheme of monkey jpegs gaining value based on artificial scarcity (via “block chain”).. and technology that can code powerful software for people, answer frontier math problems and other questions?
like… you have to be deliberately obtuse?? whats the fucking similarity, they both use computers ? idiot
what can a grandma do with an NFT? fucking jack shit turns out.
Yeah, ahm… actually no. This started 3–5 years ago. We might already be getting close to the point where more money, time, and resources buy us smaller and smaller improvements. We could be somewhere in the middle, or even near the end of what the current approach can do… unless someone comes up with a great idea to push past those limits.
Which other tech is comparable to AI and the vision the big names in the industry have? You can hardly compare it to anything that has been developed in our lifetime
I don't think that, the vast majority of the users does.
When regular people talk about AI they're talking about LLMs in most cases. Namely Chatgpt, gemini, Claude etc. That shouldn't be news tho. But ye, didn't know you studied AI. I understand that your understanding of the terms is different. Regarding LLM's I'm just a dumb user. My field is an other.
So to be more specific: you're straight up downplaying the fact that we went from simple chat bots to text-to-video and similar gimmicks (REA, OpenClaw,..) in a matter of a few years ("not much changed") FOR END CONSUMERS. That's wild
We're in a tech sub, so I asked to find out what you mean.
You're ignoring the immense compute the labs are throwing at it. I also never said there weren't real advances, I've said that the models have plateaued and all gains since then were due to tooling.
To go back to an earlier question: When will we not be "early" anymore?
Better ask Nvidia, anthropic, openai,...
It's just funny to demand for something like REA and similar to work flawlessly after very first projects hit the media. It's like review bombing early access games for being buggy.
Which claim? You asked where the FLAWLESS REVERSE ENGINEERED PROGRAMS are. I've told you that's a bullshit question to ask when this kind of tool is new.
Well we went from AI barely being able to produce boilerplate code to AI being able to compete with human experts in many areas. In 4 years. It will be "early" until we stop seeing incredible jumps in capabilities every 6 months.
If you want flawless and secure reverse engineered programs you're asking for something that's superhuman. Reverse engineering is extremely hard and "perfect security" in programs is the same, especially now that hacking has become assisted by AI to find vulnerabilities. AI is not at that level yet, obviously. But it's getting there. AI capabilities are spiky, unlike humans, meaning it can be very good at one thing and poor at another, seemingly related thing. This makes it so that, currently and on average, AI is at the level of a junior programmer with a lot of knowledge. On the higher ends it is as good or better than an expert, and on the lower end it makes junior mistakes.
Look at reverse engineered video games and software. We unlocked that capability in the last 2 months with the newer models. It's still not very good but it's leaps ahead of what was possible a year ago.
The labs are literally selling you their product. Obviously they're going to hype it up to the moon. It's probably a good idea, when someone is selling you something, to expect a core of truth surrounded by marketing bullshit. And AI is superhuman... in some things. AI labs are just hyping up the successes and ignoring the failures to make their product look better than it is.
The core of truth here is that capabilities are growing very fast, and that superhuman capabilities appear to be on the horizon within a few years if pace is maintained.

When did you first hear of AI and how long ago? What has changed since then? Mate, this is still just the beginning. It's pretty much alpha/beta.
