The UI thing is so important, yet a lot of open projects suffer from this.
There's also SolidCraft on Github now, it's a few days old and a decomp/rebuild of Fusion360.
Not the same devs, but the same concept.
Of course it's extremely new and a lot of stuff isn't working yet, but it's already more useable than FreeCAD ever was in 20(?) years of development because it's UI is so shit.
China is way ahead of us on this. ZWCAD is literally a clone of Autocad and offers a perpetual license. They have their own version of Revit I haven't messed with.
That'd be fair if FreeCAD wasn't also riddled with bugs, but it is. I don't care about a photoshop ripoff because there were already several good alternatives, but a usable OSS CAD program could really go places.
I was supporting affinity back when it costed money, it only fell short in a big company setting, where you needed a 100% compatible psd file
Affinity makes usable ones, but text and vectors get rasterizes, which is usually fine for artwork, my main freelance use, but when it came to graphic design with heavy collaboration, I couldn't have my coworkers make concession
I still prefer working in it, over Photoshop + illustrator + InDesign, tge fact it's now one combined package is very convenient
I do cad work and use FreeCad, this software looks like a proper CAD software but it isnât.
Itâs laggy, inaccurate and is missing so many features especially in the sketcher that itâs borderline unusable.
I think a lot of these âreverse engineerâ efforts are just; take screenshots and describe whatâs happening and slop out the result. I also tried effectscraft for a bit but each iteration is slowly breaking down and itâs not getting better
I mean, if UX designers aren't willing to work for potentially free (donations aren't reliable to make freelance/comtract work possible) like devs do, its not exactly the devs fault.
A lot of open source devs are just that, developers. They care about and know how making a functional thing, but generally lack good UI/UX experience or the motivation to put time under it.
Good thing about open source is though, that someone who bothers to deal with UI/UX can always help out!

Only for non-commercial use.
Which is fine by me as i'm only using it as a hobbyist anyway.
But Autodesk also is clamping down more and more on the free version. It's limited to 10 active projects (just a useless annoyance though) and it is missing some cool features that would be very helpful (e.g. when converting meshes to solid bodies).
Also the free version of Fusion a few years ago could do more then the current version and frankly I don't trust Autodesk at all to not suddenly want money for more basic functionality.
